Had two great rehearsals—choir went well, and so did small ensemble. In choir we worked on "Turlutte acadienne montréalaise," which is a super cool piece! First jazz small group rehearsal, so we just listened to a bunch of music and decided what we want to play, with guidance from the ensemble director. Then we played a blues and rhythm changes together.

Thank god the dining hall is now open late (until 9:00), because I didn't eat until 8:30.

Still recovering from Covid and other issues. How about you?

Haven't had Covid. Have had Malaria. Would swap with you any day...
The problem with Malaria is that the cure is almost as bad as the disease. Either its enough Chloroquine that it approaches the LD50 dose, or it's 5 mls of Fancidar in the buttock of your choice. It doesn't matter, you're not going to be sitting on it, you're going to be lying down, contemplating your imminent mortality.
Until your cat sharpens his claws on your waterbed, requiring you to empty it and find another mattress. And contemplate the imminent mortality of a certain cat...

And on a cheerier note.
Beloved wife says "The vacuum cleaner is vomiting stuff up".
Now, small people vomit, just after being fed, and on the most expensive clean shirt or blouse available.
Puppies and cats vomit, but while puppies go just about anywhere, cats vomit on the most expensive rug you have.
Vacuum cleaners should not vomit.
Check all the hoses, the dust container, all is good. Still not working properly.
Finally disassemble the brushy, sucky bit that gets stuff off the floor. There is a blockage in the small hole that leads up to the hoses. Aluminium foil from chocolates, wadded into a ball, letting air through, but not dirt.
Clean that out, all is good.

Trying to figure out how to organize my Scores folder on my computer. Everything's just sort of randomly placed with no subfolders at all. I'm just having trouble deciding on some things—like does a book full of sight-reading exercises go in the "Exercises" folder or the "Books" folder? The Ferling etudes clearly go in Exercises, and the full PDF of "101 Montunos" clearly goes in Books, but there are a few weird ones like the one I just mentioned. So stuff like that.

I am very rarely sick. But even if I get a cold or flu I get a secondary issue. Ulcers in my mouth and a more painful place. Basically at its worst (Behçet’s disease) you can’t eat, drink or pass water without extreme discomfort.
I’ve had it much worse than my current bought over the years.

So your wife was correct. The vacuum was sick because it ate something it could not digest. 🤢

Took the wife about 15 years to no longer show markers of Malaria in her blood. She was a missionary in Nigeria for 2 years before we met.
Ouch.

Unfortunately, I am one of those whom the winged horrors absolutely adore - to the exclusion of everyone else in the immediate vicinity.

Actually, it is one of those ghastly asymmetrical relationships: They love me while I loathe, detest, abominate - them.

Even in my current deployment, despite taking (some) precautions - the winged horrors have still managed to find me and feast upon my blood.

Ah, well.

Sigh.

On my mind is hoping you are all well, (such as Applefanboy's illness and Scepticalscribe's mosquito issues) as an aside the asian tiger mosquito is here in Switzerland ... yay.
Asian Tiger Mosquito

On the plus side our Master students have arrived (they have a shorter stay as they are in a multi-country program).

Getting there thank you. Just get work out of the way and I can have a very restful weekend.
Hope you all have a good one when you get there.

Same with my wife. And that was one of the reasons we moved to AZ. Not that they don't exist out here, they do. But it much smaller numbers. She can actually go outside in short sleeves and capris.

In WV I had a backpack sprayer and did mosquito sprays in our yard and 2 neighbor's yards every 2 weeks. Kept them down quite a bit, but still not zero.

Today I learned --
  1. That a skilled operator can totally erase a Macintosh internal drive in less than 30 seconds
  2. It then takes several hours to
    1. re-format the drive and install the current OS
    2. restore everything from your TimeMachine backup.
Writing this on my RPi 5...

Been there. Done that. Last time I had to restore my 2TB from a usb A spinner hard drive. After that I bought a USB C SSD external. Puts a restore into hours rather than days.

Customer service is on my mind. Do you want to call a company these days or walk through a crocodile infested swamp? Personally I'll take the latter. It will be more enjoyable.

The website isn't allowing me to get to the payment stage (car insurance). Live chat gets a response every 3-6 minutes. After 20 minutes of this the first representative leaves the chat. The second is a bit slower at responding...

Can we go back to companies actually employing a few more people? Currently on hold whilst the recorded voice tells me the quickest way is via their (broken!) website.

Oh god, yeah. What’s equally awful is when you get those automated receptionists that don’t understand you.

In fact, awhile ago, I needed to pick up some medications, so I called the pharmacy. The bot receptionist asked to confirm my name and phone number, so I slowly speak it, and it repeats back a COMPLETELY different thing!! Finally, after probably like 10 more steps, got to talking to a real person.

During Covid many companies worked out they could reduce their customer service team and still get by. So they continue that practice often hiding contact numbers and steering you to live chat bots etc. it’s very frustrating.

I’m sure I’d have been less bothered by it if I wasn’t still sick.

Anyway all sorted now.

I have a 2000 payment to be made early Oct for a bumper replacement. I feel your pain.

ouch!

I was lucky this time. The main problem was fixed by replacing some hose clamps that had failed causing a fairly significant oil leak from the power steering system.
