Now, when my mother was alive, yes, I always had my phone with me when out, much though this irked me - she was liable to take a bad turn and was prone to falls - and I needed to be contactable by the carer.

So not only do you need to have it with you, but you dread when it rings knowing something went sideways.

Exactly; and, as she suffered from vascular dementia, (in addition to her many other health problems, such as some serious cardiac stuff), thus, whenever that phone rang, I knew it was either bad news or a problem, an unwelcome problem that it would fall to me to address & solve.

but a few days later [after entering the correct username and password combination] you will need to either have a code send to a WhatsApp account or your mobile number...

Most likely your public IP address has been changed by your Internet/modem provider and so Yahoo mail needs to re-verify you.

Still no snow here, believe it or not! We haven't had a single snowfall yet. I reckon I won't see snow until January (going back home to the southwest next week).

I developed a Python script for a manager responsible for manually reviewing daily logs to identify instances of the word "error," ensuring all files were properly uploaded and parsed. He just told me it has saved him hours of work, and that his mornings are a lot less cumbersome because of it. I'll circle back to this during my performance review/raise negotiation 😂

The cold is on my mind. Some sun today but still snow on the ground.
The rooms in the house range from 13.5 to 15 currently. Brrrrrr. Plenty of layers on.
Why do you insist on suffering? Here in Finland people do not live in cold rooms and dive under electric blankets at night. A decently heated room is normal living.

I don't. I let Mrs AFB control the thermostats. With everything going up (except my wages), she tries to save money anyway she can. Partly because she doesn't work and partly because that's the way she is.

Anyway I'll go switch the blanket on shortly.

Two random thoughts.
  1. While watching Bill Clinton being interviewed by Stephen Colbert, I noticed how Bill Clinton is looking more and more like Dick van Dyke. I don't know what it means, but just sayin'
  2. Somewhere between 80 and 90 percent of drivers believe that they are above average in their driving skills. From this, it appears that somewhere between 80 and 90 percent of drivers are below average in their understanding of statistics...

Also, I lied about the snow! We're just getting some now.

Think I've decided on a long-term technology goal--by the time I graduate college, I want all my systems to be rack-mounted. Rack mount PC, rack mount NAS, rack mount audio interface, etc. Feel like if I could just move the rack around (especially if it was on wheels), it would make life a lot easier. And it would make my setup a whole lot cleaner. Of course this would be quite expensive to convert all my existing stuff to rack mount gear, but it's something I can work towards. Plus, I already have a rackable ethernet switch, two rackable power strips, and two 2U servers, so this is already partially done.

Nice, that sounds like an awesome long term goal. Mind if I ask what NAS you use? I have a couple myself, including both custom linux based ones and a Synology NAS that I use for my apple products.

I've missed out on a thing or two, but I got through October and that was a bit much. Quit working for a while. Wanted to work for the holiday season but not quite ready again.

I hope you've all been well.

Yes, that bitter cold is on my mind. Actually, last night, it was snowing! Snow in November!

And there is still all too much by way of (unmelted) snow on the ground and on the roofs of houses.

Brrr.

Lots of layers on, and the thought of more layers is strangely appealing.

As is hibernation. Or migration south.

Of the Patient Stop or the Food Industry scam?
Patient stop, I am aware/angry of the food industry scam. I suspect what the first may be but wanted an explanation - if you prefer by DM.

Some more "positive" news, we got snow! I saw snow on the Jura mountains on my way to the station this morning and now it is really coming down. I suspect it won't stay, in Geneva at least, but as long as the mountains are dusted I am happy.

It’s supposed to get to double figures at the weekend. Right now I’m not sure we have made positive figures in the last few days.
In the office today. At least it’s warm in here. Well for the 4 of us where there is room for 50.
