My family has never been much for big gatherings around the holidays (it helps that a lot of my relatives live in Europe). Christmas is generally just me, my sister, and my parents. It's cozy and intimate. That's the way I like it.
Just me and Mrs AFB like the other 365 days of the year. Just the way we like it!

But not as warm as we’d like!

In the past, all 15 of us have had a big gathering at least twice a year--in the summer, and at Christmas. But that's gotten more difficult in recent years, especially with my older cousins working full-time in all corners of the country. I don't really care one way or the other, honestly. I like getting together with everyone, but it's also nice for everyone to be able to do their own thing (as was the case this summer). This upcoming Christmas we'll all be in Europe together, which will be nice. That'll probably be our last opportunity to do that kind of thing though, especially with me now getting older (of all the cousins and siblings, I'm third oldest).

Does that mean you two have something special planned for February 29th every leap year? 😁

Ruckus and mayhem by Mr. & Mrs. AFB every February 29th, luckily it occurs only once every 4 years giving the rest of us time to recover‼️

Two things on my mind:

Attackers never cease to amaze with their ingenuity, and this time they turned Stack Overflow into a weapon.

A malicious group infiltrated Stack Overflow, posing as helpful contributors offering quick fixes to common programming issues. In reality, their posts and comments cleverly embedded references to a compromised package manager, uploaded to a popular Python repository. By preying on developers urgency to solve their problems, they lured victims into installing the malicious package, which triggered a carefully orchestrated attack that resulted in thousands of compromised credentials. I am both appalled and impressed.

Secondly, I have been very unmotivated lately with my Youtube channel. The thought of making a new video exhausts me, however a popular keyboard company by the name of Keychron reached out to me to review their product and I'm thinking this might just be the kick in the butt I needed to get going again.

I hope everyone is having a nice Friday, and I hope @Scepticalscribe is getting lots of Sun!

Most YouTube channels go through that. The relentless chasing users, likes and subscriptions is relentless.

Thank you for your kind thoughts, @The Clark.

Alas, I regret that I have to report that it is pouring outside at the moment, a gurgling sound coming from the drains..

Now, as it happens, I did manage to get out earlier today, to meet a colleague with whom I have worked abroad for a coffee (brunch, actually - poached eggs, plus pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, a berry smoothie, sparkling water, and coffee for me), a meeting that had been postponed from earlier in the week on account of a funeral he had to attend.

We met in the Regency spot - very elegant, close to the Courthouse - where I had enjoyed brunch last week with a different colleague.

While the ground was wet, pale rays of sunshine did - ever so fleetingly - put in a brief appearance.

Later, I called into the French bakery, (where I enjoyed another coffee and treated myself to some French bread), and, later still, dropped into the Library, as my library card - when I had earlier attempted to reserve books online - was inexplicably rejected. That matter attended to, just as I left the library, it started to spit rain, that horrid, interminable drizzle which has now graduated to a fully fledged downpour.

Congrats on this, that’s a big deal (pun maybe intended)!

Also, it’s totally okay to feel unmotivated, even for a long time. But then you remember why you got into whatever the thing is, and why you love it so much, and then you can keep going!

Just a personal story, with everything that went on this past summer, I honestly just wanted to quit everything. Was having no fun with anything, and it all felt like a waste of time to me. Then I had surgery at the beginning of August and was stuck at home, and I REALLY learned what it felt like to do nothing… and it SUCKED. So then when I recovered enough, I got back up on my feet (literally) and started performing and teaching again, and I remembered how much I love it.

Of course, I’m kinda at a point now where I want to do something different, especially next summer (I’d love to work somewhere outside of my home state, for instance). But that will come when it comes, whenever that is. I think that’s really important to remember. It’s so easy to lose patience with yourself (at least for me), and you want the thing NOW. But often, you just have to wait and it will happen. That’s happened to me so many times, I can very confidently say that.

Also, somewhat related to this: You can make as many excuses as you want as to why you can’t do something, or why it won’t work. Like, “I can’t do it because I’m not good enough.” Or “(someone) won’t let me.” Or “it won’t work because of my schedule.” Here’s what I have to say to that: those are legitimate reasons. BUT… at the same time… you are good enough. You’ll find someone who will let you. You’ll find someone/something that will work with your schedule. It just takes more time than you want.

Inspirational response rm5, thank you. I agree, sometimes you just need to get right back to it and the snowball effect takes place.

If you dont mind me asking, what was the surgery for? I know you needed painkillers but I can't remember if you disclosed the nature of the surgery.

Also, as I was writing that last post, I just remembered I need to point out how vitally important having an open mind is. I know so many people who don’t want to try new things, and that’s fine, but at a certain point, don’t you think you need to experience something else?

I visited some relatives on the west coast over the summer, and they were kind enough to take me to all these different restaurants, and to all these concerts. 95% of it was stuff I was completely unfamiliar with. And I loved that. I had no idea what to expect. Rarely do I ever say something was transformative, but that truly was. Actually, really these last two years of college have been, too, especially in regard to music.

So… eat new foods. Listen to new music. Go to new places. Do things you are uncomfortable with (obviously don’t hurt yourself or put yourself in danger, but you get my point). By doing this, you know what you like and don’t like. Gives you new experiences and new stories.

Well we did NOT get a phone call, that’s a good thing. He’s nearly done (8am EST is done) with 54 hour Marine crucible, these lights have been on since Thursday.

Nothing good on my mind right now. Quite the opposite.
I hate November.
Not a fan of November, or winter, either.

However, as I had a car at my disposal this morning, I paid a visit to the bottle bank, and to the farmers' market where I made a number of purchases: Organic vegetables from the best organic stall in the market (carrots, celery, onions, leeks, salad greens, the last of the seasonal tomatoes, and parsley), plus their own cooking apples, raspberries, and their own free range, organic, eggs.

Some meat from the organic meat stall - shin of beef on the bone, chicken thighs, (skin and bone attached), along with bacon rashers and pork sausages from a proper pork butcher, - and some cheese from the cheesemonger.

Bread was bought from the French bakery yesterday, while, earlier, citrus fruit, (oranges, lemons and grapefruit) had been delivered, along with the week-end edition of the FT.

Sounds like a busy morning. I cleaned some moss off the roof and cleaned out the gutter. Also emptied the water butt before it freezes. Fun times!

I don’t get why someone would send over 25 attachments as separate emails. Doesn’t that seem a little discourteous? New email after new email after new email, flooded my inbox. They could have easily uploaded all the files to Dropbox or some other cloud sharing service, neatly organized, and sent one single link.

I try not to get annoyed by that kind of stuff, but honestly that kinda pissed me off. Id be fine with like 5 separate emails with attachments, but 30 (somewhere around there, I lost count) separate emails with their own individual attachments?

I’d like to politely request that in the future, they send a single link to a Dropbox, Google drive, etc. folder.

Well, even if you do not use - or, would prefer not to use - a cloud sharing service, or Dropbox, it is still (usually) possible to send three, or four, or five, or even more, attachments per email; I've done so, and have received emails in such a format, as well.

Finished up at the gym. Making a roast now and studying for my Pentest certification. This is shaping up to be a lovely saturday, and tomorrow marks my two weeks of sobriety. Not a drop of alcohol or any drugs and my body is finally returning to its old self.

At times I miss the euphoria certain substances brought on, but I have to remember that it's fleeting and that I'm building a framework for a healthier future.

This would annoy me too.
