I love the southwest! Honestly a very underrated region of the U.S. But I also grew up there. I think the midwest is great, but I still haven't gotten used to the weather. Admittedly I have yet to visit the Dakotas and Nebraska—so I also haven't been to all the states in the midwest yet.

Horrible here too. Flooding all around my area and strong winds. At least we had some sun today so was able to get some clothes partially dry on the line.
Managed a walk but the wind was cutting.
Enjoy your days off.

I saw the video of the dingbat who drove a large tractor through a flooded town, with the waves from the tractor causing more damage than the original flooding...

Just seen that in the news. Tenbury Wells was the town. Talk about pouring salt on the wound so to speak. Given the damage they caused and the fact that many businesses there are no longer insured, not sure how that will be resolved. Might be a difficult situation for some time to come as the rivers are set to peak Wednesday. More rain forecast as well. My route to work is flooded, but I’m off for the week 😀

We used to sell ottlite in the UK for that very reason.
Cloudy gray skies are not good for the emotional balance, unfortunately.

I actually used a couple of Ott Lite products when I was photographing ice cream and other food items at a take away restaurant in Orlando, Florida because I didn't want to melt the ice cream prematurely. They gave the appearance of loads of light from a small electrical draw.

Is Hanging, Drawing and Quartering still practiced in the UK? It might be time to revive it...

I spent a week in a town in Nebraska, population 125. They had no stop signs for the dirt roads. There were no paved roads. Everyone knew everyone else's schedule, I suppose. It was 20-30 miles to the store. Most everyone lived on a farm, but there were a few houses in the town itself. We went to visit my grandparents' relatives and, as we were leaving the area, dad drove the wrong way, into South Dakota. I could not see any buildings or anything else.

If you go, I hope you'll go somewhere interesting.

They have only a few approved ways to enter?
Since 2016, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. However, my dad drove the wrong way, into South Dakota, instead of toward Iowa.

Back in the 1970s, the Interstate Highway System was not complete and things were much looser than they are now.

Going to go to bed REALLY early (at 8:00) tonight, so I can be ready for my 5:00 AM flight back home!
I hope that you have (enjoy?) a good night's rest.

I must say that I have never been able to sleep well the night before I have an early (very early) morning flight, and I write as someone who actually has the gift of sleep, and who can sleep anywhere, and almost anytime.

Safe travels.

Same here. But if I have to be up early, I will start waking up at least an hour before and sleep in 5 minute snippets until my alarm goes off. Really a big PITA.

I will certainly try!

My Lyft takes me to the airport at 3:20 AM. I have one hour-long connection in DFW (American Airlines now operates a direct flight from ATW-DFW, which, I can't even begin to tell you how convenient that is, rather than having to make two connections like I used to!). Then I'll be home at 10:30 tomorrow morning. I have a gig tomorrow night, too.

That reminds me, one of my dad's favorite stories is when he had to sleep on the floor an Italian train station, after traveling through the Balkans. This was in the 1990s, shortly after those countries gained independence from Yugoslavia. He was traveling with one of his best friends, and neither of them had any money. I seriously doubt I could ever do that.

DFW? ATW?

I'm not familiar with US airports, as it happens, hence, I have no idea of what (or, rather, where) you are referring to.

Is one hour sufficient for transit, given security requirements and the possibility of flight delays? Personally, I always prefer at least two hours - preferably three - while transiting between flights.

Safe travels, anyway.

Cars, planes, trains, travelling by bus, have all played host to me in a state of repose; actually, I've even slept solidly through both earthquakes and thunderstorms.

Nevertheless, the night before catching (or taking) an early flight means light and restless dozing.

The Appleton International Airport in Wisconsin, and the Dallas-Fort Worth airport in Dallas, Texas, a major city in the southwest. It used to be I would have to make a connection in between these places, but that is no longer the case.

Hi everyone,

Still here and alive. Thankfully. Mom and I are hanging in.

Thinking of all of you and hope you are well.

Sending hugs.
Terrific to see you (or, rather read you) here and delighted to learn that both you and your mother are "hanging in".

Hope you're both better than "hanging in", but I am well aware that this is not always easy.

In any case, stay safe, stay sane, stay strong, and above all, try to be kind to yourself.
