Naughty of me to post a single smiley, sorry to the mods. Also, Canada has a new Prime Minister? I knew Trudeau was retiring but not so soon. No idea who this fellow is and really can't say much more in this forum but good luck.

Former Governor of the Bank of Canada and then the Bank of England. Never has been a politician.

Haven't been to McDs for a looong time now. Egg Macmuffin was nice and a local special sandwich the McRalette (made with Swiss raclette cheese and anice bun). Not missing it though.
Yeah, in the EU, it’s not that big.

I love using the McDonald’s app on my iPhone to collect points for rewards.

While I’m machining my first part in my CNC class, I’m singing to Mary J. Blige and Sia songs. It’s going well, y’all.

That was an INTENSE choir rehearsal. We're putting together a huge two-hour program with the orchestra next month, which is awesome, but we have to learn the entire program by then. We have no time to do re-runs of stuff during these rehearsals, have to sight-read everything perfectly. Just one movement/piece straight to another. Since I can't make Monday/Wednesday rehearsals (I have another class during those), I'm only getting about half the necessary practice. I'll need to practice over spring break, for sure. After spring break, we only have two weeks until the concert.

Good for you. I'm genuinely impressed. It's all I ate when driving across Canada and I still continue to have FF a couple times a week.
I mean, when I was a kid, my parents didn't allow fast food, soda, etc., and I just never got into it. I always brought my own lunch to school, too.

Ah yes. I've noticed eating habits are always formed at a young age.
My parents, for instance both worked full time and would regularly rely on fastfood which at the time I thought was great, but it's been an ongoing challenge readjusting my eating as an adult.

I would have been stopping at Tim Hortons but they've supposedly changed for the worse.

Back when we were crossing Ontario, there didn't seem to be a lot of fast food, but we only went from Windsor to London.

Tim Hortons is a disgrace to Canadians everywhere. I cannot stand what they'd done to my once beloved breakfast chain.

I'd eaten so many panini sandwiches at several locations, but all of them were in the USA, south of Windsor, ON. I'm not one for bread but their multi-grain bread was really good.

For the variety of food that we have in California, home cooking is still the best we can do.

That's a good place to start.

I remember my mother occasionally taking me to Red Barn to get a hot dog. They didn't have hot dog buns and had a machine to take white bread and shape it into a sort of bun. The typical fast food places didn't exist then. Normally, she cooked and we ate at home. When my father finished his 20 years in the U.S. Navy, we got pizza on Friday evening.

It has been terrible for many years now. The coffee was never great even in the decent years. Things started to go off the rails when they quietly started using frozen baked goods. Sadly, there are still many people to whom it is like a religion and they consider it symbol of Canada. All these gas guzzling SUVs contain only the driver lined up at the drive thru from coast to coast. Wonderful

Apologise if I offend any other culture here but in the states we have dunkin donuts 🍩 over Tim Horton. But Tim Horton do have locations around the east coast that are closer to Canada 🍁 like ny, New Jersey 🇯🇪, Green Bay and these colder states in the northeast of the USA. 🇺🇸

Dunkin’ Donuts’ drink offers have decreased since 2 years after I joined their rewards program during the COVID-19 pandemic. They used to offer deals on the months there are limited-edition coffee releases like my favorite espresso coffee, “Sabrina Carpenter’s Shaken Espresso,” which they advertised with popular music. This happy hour ended a week or two ago, and I miss stopping by to grab espresso before going to the Apple Store nearby. Now, most free items are food-related, and converting rewards points is harder due to incentives and bonus points they excessively did which they don’t let you get anything you want with 200 points; now you have to max out your points to get a frozen coffee for example.

I heard about 85 Degrees Bakery Cafe, which my AANHPI friends know about, expanding further. I’ve received emails about their store openings in the states. I miss their Monday sea salt coffee offers, which ended during pandemic restrictions. However, I still have VIP status since I downloaded the app in 2019.

They even have an 85C Bakery Cafe in Stockton and several in the San Fran Bay Area, along with Paris Baguette.

My parents both also worked full time, but never bought sweets (candies), or fastfood.

We always - even as small children - prepared our own breakfasts (supervised by my father), and often, our own lunch; and we (my brothers and I), once we hit the teenage years, were encouraged to cook and prepare meals for ourselves and for the family; in general, my mum usually prepared evening meals, though less so, in latter years.

Instead, we were encouraged to snack on fruit - there was always fruit in a bowl, apples, pears, bananas, plus whatever was in season - and cheese and bread, if necessary.

The upshot of this is that my brothers and I eat vast amounts of fruit to this day, and never (or, hardly ever) buy sweets, (candies) or similar snacks.

That is amazing. Your parents probably recognized the importance of healthy eating and wanted to ingrain that in you and your siblings from a very young age. My parents would be absolutely perplexed if I cooked them a meal.

Sadly, my folks, as amazing as they are, have always struggled with healthy eating. On both sides, heart disease, diabetes, and poor eating habits run rampant. Consequently, they passed those habits down to my sister, brother, and I.

The hardest part is that even if I wanted to eat healthy, I wouldn't really know where to start. Most of the time, it’s not an issue because I stick to simple ingredients for my usual meals—things like toast with peanut butter and apple slices, egg wraps with spinach, and oven-roasted chicken with seasoning. Beyond that, most of what I know about cooking comes from past partners.

I often read about you picking up new ingredients and I get jealous! Cooking is a very handy skill to have and it comes with many benefits.
