  1. Space ships still have Port and Starbord lights.
(Edited to correct the colours...)
Botch’s Mnemonic of the Day: The Port light is on the Left, as they have the same number of letters, and the port light is red, because Port Wine is red (and Tawny as a color belongs in that stupid group with Mauve, Taupe, and Periwinkle (Oh, and “coral”, never order a “coral” shirt if you’re a guy; it’s **** pink)).

You need the right tool for the job.
Also, the best camera is the one with you.
I shoot mostly wide field astrophotography now, it’s more diverse and creative I’ve found.

I had a very expensive telescope , which are best for DSO, deep space objects. Thing is … once you’ve gone thru the learning curve, then you’re chasing more details via …. Bigger aperture ($$$$), serious stacking & processing. After 3 years I decided not my long term cup of tea.

Wow, that’s why it has such high resolution! During my business trip to NASA, I used a large telescope at work. Unfortunately, we couldn’t use our iPhones to take pictures because it was difficult to focus on the telescope. My colleagues and I tried to do that. We were able to see Venus, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn through the telescope. I regretted leaving my old job because of the flexibility of working remotely and part-time in the office, while also networking with real NASA employees, colleagues from the same school, and other schools across the country. As an intern new to the space industry, I gained invaluable exposure to NASA.

Have you ever come across these digital cameras that you can connect to your iPad and videotape? We had one of these. Here’s a sample of them:IMG_5285.jpegIMG_5283.jpegIMG_5284.jpeg

Even back in the 2010’s using EQ (equatorial mount) mounted OTA (optical tube assembly) with good light sensitive webcams allowed people to stack 1,000 of photos , capturing way more photons, and creating truly incredible images of DSO’s (deep space objects) .
Most serious astrophotographers don’t image with a webcam (or DSLR) at prime focus anymore, rather use dedicated imaging sensors at prime to truly capture and create their work.
Including having a cement pier at their imaging location to reduce setup time.

Way back in 2010, with my Canon T1i and 15-85mm f2.8 Toknia lens, known to be tack sharp across its field, using a fixed tripod I stacked just 45 images to make this. Each individual the nebula was not visible, stacking them (& adding photons) allowed that.
Exposure 4 seconds, f2.8, ISO 400.

Without a tracking mount you can’t image for more than a few seconds before earth rotation then becomes a factor.

You work within the tools / gear you have on hand.

It’s interesting, but it still looks great. Back in the day, we had a digital telescope at work that used an app on the iPad Pro to record everything and capture the stars.

It has a specialised camera system that can capture it from the sky without stacking images unlike yours. Technology has changed over the years and that one we used is a lot more advanced.

Oh, the bittersweet betrayal! My beloved Japanese denim, those rigid, noble warriors of fashion, have declared mutiny—clamping down with such relentless loyalty that they seem determined to squeeze the life (and digestion) right out of me. Alas, my heart aches as much as my stomach does.

Forced into exile by my own wardrobe, I'm left to seek refuge among the gentler comforts: slacks that embrace rather than constrict, tailored pants whose grace masks mercy, suspenders that valiantly shoulder the burden my denim abandoned, and overalls, charmingly indifferent to waistline woes.

But above all, dread looms large in the sinister tightening of belts—the villainous enforcer of denim’s unyielding law. For now, liberation lies in looser fabrics, less judgmental silhouettes, and perhaps, the quiet revenge of comfort over fashion's tyranny.

How much ramen have I had, you ask? Let’s just say enough to put Tokyo’s noodle shops to shame—though if we’re confessing indulgences, my fondness for German white beers probably deserves equal credit for this denim rebellion!
Wonderful; I must confess that I laughed aloud, when reading this.

Japanese denim rebellion? Fantastic.

And Japanese ramen and German beer both rock.

I do find it funny when you say ‘back in the day’ and iPad Pro in the same sentence.

Back in the day to me is many decades before iPads and iPhones existed!

Hey there! I meant that as a memory. Back in my internship days, I just finished two months ago, lol. 😂

I’ve already finished it now. I’m waiting for any callbacks or interviews for the next jobs I applied for!

Good luck. Not had a job interview in years. 17 years at my current place. 13 at the one before that.

Yea I applied for another NASA internship L’Space for summer. Lots of former interns from the one I was in went there after they finished the community college programme which was NCAS.

Then other companies like nvidia and others I saw in LinkedIn.

Usually summer ones do not call back until May or June.

Here’s “back in the day” for me, I posted this on facebook in 2010:
Paperboy Route1972-1976
I woke up 3am and had the weirdest dream, involving my paper route from the 1970's. Made a map of my 2 paper routes, I delivered the Macomb Daily (after school delivery)at 11 years old, then 2 years later had a Detroit Free Press route (early morning 4:30am - 5:15 am). All by bike and either saddle bags or behind the bike pull cart .
Sunday editions were 2x thick!

Yup those Sunday supplements were the worst. I remember carrying them when the bag weighed twice what I did!

Of course in the UK we had to put them through the door of every house. That was the worst. Attacked by dogs and all sorts!

Yep, chased by dogs, freaked out by grouse taking off by me in pure darkness, etc

Same, I put the paper where customers wanted it, custom for each home .

That final was awful. 5 250-word essay questions. I was doing fine at the beginning but then I started to feel extremely light-headed and shaky. I couldn’t think straight. I was honestly considering just giving up, but I somehow worked through it. The bulk of it was feeling light-headed, but during the last 20 minutes I felt fine. I think it was just pure stress, and having not eaten (final was during lunch). No way I did well, there's absolutely no way. I wrote 250 words to each prompt, but that's pretty much it. Doubt I answered them thoroughly, if at all. I don't even remember. Good it's only worth 25% of the final grade, because if I got a 50% (which I probably did), I'll still earn a B+ in the class.

My online politics class requires us to write a 550-600 word midterm paper every two weeks. While some weeks are longer, others involve only small discussions and a mini quiz, which are much easier. However, I wish they would eliminate the midterm paper on some weeks when I have other commitments for my other classes. *sigh* But thank goodness my teacher is a politician himself and is quite nice so if you get something wrong or missing he only removes a point or two.

I did way too much this term, and I was burnt out well before the 7th week, but I had to keep going. I am never doing that again. I'm sure we've all had experiences like that. This isn't my first, and it certainly won't be my last. But I now know that taking 5 courses when students normally only take 3 is a terrible idea.

I also got a physics midterm exam coming up but at least I can use the homework to study for it. It got extended due to the class being canceled on the rainy day last week.

I am taking 4 classes half online and half on campus. I go to school twice a week.

9v powered , and yes they had the cool factor then .
Have you ever watched “WKRP in Cincinnati “?

I knew it. 😏 They were uncomfortable, weren’t they?

This reminds me of these mock headphones I used to wear in primary school when kids were scared of loud noises. They wore these earmuffs that looked like headphones instead of the winter earmuffs. And these hard-sided ones that you wear for hearing tests at the doctor’s office. 🏢 these get hooked up into a sound box that the nurse plays a series of tones to test hearing in one or both ears.
