I’ve also taken the “pay it forward” charity approach when selling small stuff on marketplace.
Many times I’ve listed “stuff”, then say to a specific facebook group I’ve posted that listing with a 50/50 catch:
Pay me 50% and then pay the MCMBA general trail fund the other 50%, I’ve done that 5-6 times now successfully.
MCMBA = motor city mountain biking organization, a non-profit, used for our truly needed $’s for trail building, maintenance, etc.

Every dollar matters to a small local fund.

Went for a swim at the rec center this morning, something I used to do when I was in shape. I can see why I used to prioritize this.. I feel so good after.

I bought a pass so I can hit the gym then swim after over the next couple months.
Sounds good. My Dad goes 2-3 times a week. Only something he was able to start once he retired.
I’ll probably do the same if I ever get there. No time with a full time job.

Yeah, that’s the tough part - actually finding time to commit to the gym or going for a swim. I'm at a point in my life where not going is not an option, making the time to stay fit is paramount.

Oh I’m fitter now than I have ever been which is pretty good considering I’m well passed middle age.
I average 2 hours 30 minutes exercise a day over the last 12 months. But driving to a pool would take 30 minutes at least. So it would take more time than I have.

Good for you, that's awesome.

The uni where NASA sent me to work for a week to finish the internship had a community recreational facility and pool. Non students can use the pool for a fee. They had a cool water park in there and some guests who are older got a senior pass for only a buck to access the pool.

Whenever I’m booking a hotel for work, I always choose one with a gym if I can.

A gym and electric car charging is my ultimate go to if available though.
Bad thing is that with some companies booking hotel blocks for business travel like NASA they have to select the lodging for you. We got the small best western hotel which wasn’t all that. No gym so I had to bring a reusable beach towel for yoga and resort to doing all bodyweight exercises in my room. The shower kinked and had water go everywhere. They had good breakfast besides the mushy chorizo.

A lot of construction workers stayed there with all the work trucks making it hard for the company buses to park there every evening.

Our company should have gave us courtyard or Hilton which as a firm they would also pay for the breakfast if the hotel didn’t have it complimentary at the hotel. The city we worked at had a lot of nice hotels.

I’ve know Mike S for 25 years thru work, were great friends.
I’m the Mtb guy, he’s the swim guy.
His devotion blows me away. He’s swimming at 5:15am regularly M-W-F, that’s nuts!! He also coaches swimmers, etc.
A great soul.

We have a county recreation center not too far from where I live which has an indoor pool available year-around for use by residents of the county for a modest fee. I have only been there a couple of times, as I really don't like indoor pools that much and going in wintertime, swimming and feeling refreshed again somehow doesn't feel as nice when I have to put on my heavy winter clothes again and go back out into the cold weather.

I'm much more of a fan of my own community's outdoor pool, which is open each summer season from Memorial Day (in the US, late May) through Labor Day (first week or so of September). It was frustrating when the pool was closed during the Pandemic! Once it finally did reopen there were limitations for a while but now everything is back to normal again and I am looking forward to this upcoming season of hanging out at the pool, swimming laps and relaxing in one of the chaise lounges at poolside.

As far as daily exercise goes, as a decidedly "senior citizen," my current approach is walks, but I don't always do them on a daily basis, especially during cold weather. Now that Spring is here I have been and will continue to get out on a daily basis to savor the joys of seeing and photographing new growth, watching brown grass turn into green grass, leaves popping out on the trees, etc.

What's on my mind? Well, I guess Spring in all its beauty and resurgence of life! :)

Without a car, I am often on a 2.5 mile walk to the store but sadly, carrying heavy things, I almost always call Uber for the return trip.

Exercising at this age can be extreme. The Medicare Part C plan has limited gym memberships, but I don't know that I would be comfortable going.

Not sure of your age, Bousozoku, but I really am beyond the point of getting a gym membership and doing extensive workouts there. Never was my thing, anyway, even in my younger days, and definitely it is not now. As we grow older we become more aware of our physical limitations as they slowly increase even as we continue to do what we can.....

Thankfully right now, anyway, I am still very mobile and actually don't take any prescription medications for anything, which is fairly unusual in my age cohort. I do have to say that I wouldn't do well with walking 2.5 miles to the store and then returning home with one or more bags of groceries! I suspect that this kind of activity is challenging for many people, regardless of age and level of physical fitness and overall health.

I'm 65 years old on the outside and 600 on the inside. I've been to all three local hospitals and seen various doctors and no one has been able to help. I keep going. I should return to working, but when I was working retail, some of the customers were less than friendly and I was starting to reject my feeling of generosity.

Then again, I play a video game called Solo Leveling: Arise and I'm placing between 58 and 70, depending on the week, and I'm sure I'm a little noisy when banging on the keyboard. It's somewhat exhausting, but it's fairly good for cardio.

I really need some dumb bells, so I can help increase the strength of my forearms and wrists. All the time I played piano has helped, but I am older now.

Well I am glad to see you keeping active, my Dad never was which I am sure didn't help his health issues. Mom is and this is helping her overall health. BTW I didn't know Solo Leveling has a game, I am watching the anime (based on the Korean manhwa - what they call manga or comics) which was adapted by a studio in ..... Japan. Interesting story there.

I started playing the game before I saw the anime. I changed the voices to Japanese and then, when I saw the anime, everything was in Japanese, so it seemed quite natural.

It's not like anime in the 1980s that always had a moral story to tell. It's quite interesting in a non-Asian way.

I'm just surprised that I've gone so far in the game. It hasn't been out one year yet. The game has got several awards already, but on web sites about video games, it is almost never mentioned.

As far as exercise goes, keeping the mind and body active are important to stave off dementia/Alzheimer's Disease. There are other factors but my adoptive dad started it after three heart attacks at 50 but his father didn't succumb to it until he was 92. Dad made it to 80, without exercise, while his dad was 98 at the end. His dad built a room onto his house at 81 and fell off while putting a roof onto the room at 82.

In a meeting now, and at 12 I'll be off to the gym. Who needs drugs when you have balance!?
And I have two counselling meetings back to back with two different ones.

Another meeting with all the clubs for the student government in my school.

Lots of things running around my lunch time today! But enjoyed the flea market event though!

Spoke to my dad this morning. Then this evening again. Basically told me the same things twice like it was news.

I do fear he is starting to repeat himself far more often. Knee surgery next month as well. Not ideal when I live so far away.

I went on a nice hike around Point Defiance today. I have lots of pictures that I'd share, but MacRumors seems to hate pictures from my phone.
I never had a problem sharing with the 2022 iPhone SE, but with the iPhone 15, I have to find an app to reduce the size or the quality in order for them to be acceptable.

Sorry, how old is dad?
My mom had dementia at age 79, transitioned to Alzheimer’s age 81, she passed age 83 in 2021. We never told her she had Alzheimer’s, her younger sister did have it also 6 years before my mom showed signs, my mom was so afraid of getting it after seeing and supporting her younger sister.

Moms 9 of 10 grandkids at annual Alzheimer’s walk.
