What's on my mind? Glorious Spring! The Cherry Blossoms and the Tulip Magnolias have burst into full bloom in my neighborhood, and while out there photographing these wonderful blossoms I also enjoyed the sight of them and savored their delightful scent.....

Winter is truly in the rear view mirror around here now, and in my area we are all welcoming Spring with joy and delight.

We bought a fan. It wasn't a big fan, but it came in a big box.
We took the fan out of the big box, and put the box up on its side against the bookshelf prior to cutting it up and putting it in the recycling bin.
Apparently it had a secret entrance the hoomans didn't know about.
Kitty (avatar <-- see left) took up residence in the big box.
We are now not allowed to put the big box out for recycling...

Nice. I didn't post images here since this really is meant to be a discussion thread rather than an image thread..... Aside from that I haven't yet post-processed any of the many images I shot today! That takes time.....
What's so nice about my Panasonic S5 Mk II is that I can send the raw file to my iPhone and post-process there, or I can apply a LUT so when I shoot, I get a certain look that's ready to post on social media.

Spring came early and all of the almond blooms are gone. I should have gotten a ride to a grove and just taken some sped-up video, so I could post some slow motion of the petals falling.

We have had a federal election announced. Ora pro nobis.
Anyway, there are lots of ads on youtube. One of them promises that if we build a Very Fast Train from the Central Coast it will travel at 120 Kmh to the Sydney CBD in 20 minutes. The distance to be travelled is 80 km.
The maths is only out by 100%. Either the train will have to travel at 240 Kmh, or it will take 40 minutes.
I think I will decline their invitation to vote for them.

Since you brought up cherry/peach/plum blossoms. I had to show off these nice shots of the ones I saw in school the other day on my way to physics lab.

Btw I did post these in picture of the day which only allows one pic to be posted a day.

I have never quite figured out the LUT thing. I shoot RAW on a Sony A7R V and a Sony A1, so all of my images definitely need to be post-processed, and I use DXO PhotoLab and other editing software in order to (hopefully) get the final results I want. Sometimes it's a quick process, other times it may take more time when I get to tinkering with finer details or whatever.

Once in a while I do shoot an image or two with my iPhone 12 Pro but even then I always air-drop the image(s) into my computer and then work with them in my usual editing software. Only after that perhaps will I share the image(s) online in various places. Actually, the image I posted today in the POTD thread is from my iPhone 12 Pro.....

I'm not a big social media fan and I don't share my images on FB or Instagram. I prefer to share them in other (usually photography-related) sites. That said, I've also only recently started posting again on MR's POTD / Photo of the Day thread, after taking some time off to work on other projects during the winter months.

When I was photographing high school sports in Florida, there was only MySpace or Friendster, so I posted a little bit of what I did. Years later, I moved 1100 miles and was photographing high school sports in Indiana, I started to use Instagram before Facebook bought it. I still have 3500+ posts on Instagram and probably around 100 skate park videos from California on YouTube. I'm not well known since I've been inactive.

The LUT thing was originally for video, but I've known a few photo editing applications, such as Luminar, that can make use of it. Panasonic goes so far as to have a LUT button on the S9. You can configure a look for a scene by modifying colors and saturation and more, and then, apply it automatically in camera. I'm still learning about it, but they have LUTs that you can download and use in-camera.

I rarely use the iPhone camera but it's okay for casual stuff.

All this talk about photos and I went and posted something spring-like in the Relaxed Photo Thread.

Just passed my OSCP (OffSec Certified Professional)! After 8 months of studying, I tackled the intense 24-hour hands-on penetration testing exam, where I had to exploit multiple machines and thoroughly document every step - definitely one of the toughest challenges I’ve faced.

I'd be okay to never look at another computer again.

Now, I have this little job for you to do. 😁

It still feels very much like winter now that I’m back in Wisconsin. I doubt it’ll warm up fully until May.
Going by what I recall from what I experienced happening (twice, two different years), in Poland, in mid-late April, - the temperatures went from -10C to +28C (yes, a jump of almost 40 degrees celsius) in just over a week, before settling back to around +20C - I'd imagine that it will then proceed to warm up exceptionally rapidly in a matter of days, around sometime in mid to late April.

Well, last week, we have had the vernal equinox (possibly - just possibly - my favourite day of the year), and last night, the second signifier of spring (other than the joyous appearance of cherry blossoms, daffodils, and tulips) occurred, when the clocks went forward (or rather, were put forward) by an hour.

Okay, it is still somewhat cold, but I do so love spring, - longer days, warmer days, and, (most of the time), a far better quality of natural light, - with its eternal promise of better things to come.

At least it won't be as cold as Winter. Spring in the upper midwest can be cold and wet, so your guess of May seems realistic. You might get another snow storm before winter is truly over.

Dont you guys miss sleeping in during those cold winter mornings? Or having some hot chocolate by the fire? Walks in the snow? Nobody enjoys this?
I can sleep in on a spring/summer/fall morning too. Sadly we don't get that much snow in Geneva - though in the mountains we do and yes I'll admit I love that, and hot chocolate too though again I live in an apartment so no fireplace. Growing up we did and it was great, but I just have skin issues and warmth agrees with me more. BTW Grew up in Vancouver so usually got rain, but we lived on the East Coast too and I did my MA in Ottawa at Carleton so got pretty intense winters at that time. You are in BC though correct?

Sleep in? When you get older your lucky if you can sleep until 8 at the weekends.

Normally I’m awake early these days.

As for snow we get a lot less than we used to. Global warming and all that.

Personally, given the choice, I'd sleep right through winter, rather than just sleep in on Sundays.

However, to answer your question, I love heat, warmth, bright light.......so no. Not at all.

Walks in the snow, you can keep; ice, likewise.

Hot chocolate is lovely in winter, but however nice hot chocolate is, it does not (remotely) compensate for the sheer depressing horror that is winter, that utter lack of natural light, those short days, cold days, dark dreary days.
