Well, if one had a choice in this matter.........a Bernese Mountain dog, or a Newfoundland, would greatly appeal.

And West Highland terriers are also worth thinking about.

Newfies are amazing dogs, aren't they? In spite of their somewhat intimidating size, they apparently have quite nice temperaments and can be quite gentle with people.

Westies are cute and fun little dogs. Former neighbors had one and I always enjoyed greeting him and petting him as he and his mistress were going out for a walk.

Today's going to be so much fun around MR as we all sniff out each other's breeds....

I had a great time mingling with my friends and fellow Apple Watch users at a painting event during my lunch break. I even painted an iPhone bag - it turned out to be a lovely masterpiece!

Later that afternoon, I attended my CNC machining class where I accidentally dinged the OTS (Optical Tool Setter) . Y’all who never machined stuff before, it is an optical tool setter, and I didn’t realise it until now.

I was trying to do all the guesswork by getting the tool lengths in one spot, but I made a mistake when I ran my verification program code. I forgot to jog the x and y axes into the workpiece area instead of the OTS, and the tools ended up sitting an inch away from the surface! Oops!

😬

Actually the bracket got bent off after so much force was applied to it and we will have to use 1-2-3 blocks and manually input the lengths into the machine.

Rubbish thing I forgot about, I was under the weather 🤧. A bit.

Well I’ve not machined for a while. But back then there was no computer. You did it by eye or made a template.

What I really miss is having a lathe to turn little home projects on at lunchtime. But I’ve not worked in that environment since before you were born most likely.

I learnt from my mistake here. I should have reduced the rapid speeds before hitting the cycle start button so that I could hit the FEED HOLD button on time before the OTS crashed.

However, when you machined back in the day, it was barely when Haas started adding USB ports to upload programs to the machine.

We still get homework with the Haas controls that use floppy disk memory over USB so that we can use both methods. However, we use the modem Haas lathes and mills at my uni.

But all online on the computer for the manuals.

Glorious spring sunshine today, - my eyes, heart and soul thrilled to the spectacle of sunny skies, the wonderful and warming quality of natural light, daffodils, some early tulips, a few buds appearing on the extremities of bare branches of trees, along with some welcome warmth (although a surprising number of idiots - or, perhaps, individuals who are impervious to the cold - were wearing shorts.......shorts, in early April?)

Wonderful.

Cheese, cream, butter, and coffee were all bought on a fleeting trip to the city, where I enjoyed a coffee in one of my favourite coffee haunts, a building that dates back to the 16th century.

Sunshine but still cold from yesterday's windy conditions "La Bise" they call it in the Lake Geneva region. 20 km/h winds with gusts to 50 - 3-5 degrees with the wind chill. Awful.

Today, while beautifully sunny, was also quite cold (hence, my stupefaction at the fact that some individuals were wearing shorts - the temperature at the moment is 16C, - which is nowhere near shorts weather, to my mind - earlier, obviously, it was colder, and, while well wrapped up, I could still feel a cold breeze, a breeze with a cold edge that cut right through you).

Myself, while I was (finally, finally) able to discard an overcoat, I was (and am) still warmly clad in a winter sweater, (pullover, jumper), a blend of wool and cashmere, a cotton turtleneck, warm (winter weight) jeans, and warm woollen socks.

For my part, I have never experienced "La Bise", but I have experienced both the Mistral, and the Bora (pronounced bura/boura) which is something similar, but found in the Balkans.

My best friend is coming over tonight to help me build my PC. I've built over 500 and I'm sick of it and he loves it, so he's going to do it for me and I'm going to get us some pizza after. I'm very excited.
Wow, that sounds fun! I’m getting better now. All that’s left is congestion.

Yesterday, I felt tired and accidentally crashed on the CNC machine. Story above 👆🏻.

My machining teacher will call Haas and order the replacement parts. At least he didn’t yell at me . Alternatively, we can use the lathe to make a custom one. The broken OTS has a bracket and lacks threads, unlike other Reinshaw OTSs.

The probe still works in the HAAS VF2, but I’ll need to set tool offsets the old way until the part arrives.

Oh yea, my sweaters and even winter coats are still being worn for now.
Oh, yes.
But the daylight is still uplifting!
Isn't it?

Wonderfully so - I feel as though a switch has been pressed, or flipped - and, for the first time in months, actually feel awake, alert, alive....
The Balkans can be quite cold indeed,
In winter, yes - I've observed elections there in the winter, but, thankfully, winter is quite short, and, already by Carnival (usually in February), it is clear that spring is on the way.
that includes Northern Greece.

Agreed.

My big band debut has made it earlier than expected! Pianist had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict and I was the only one qualified and able to take over. I planned to join next year (and I still plan to), but this term should be fun! We're doing all contemporary music, it sounds like. So now I am officially in four ensembles, which is the most I've ever done at once. It combines to be 7 rehearsals a week for all of them - three on Tuesdays and Thursdays, one on Fridays. (I got out of the Monday/Wednesday choir rehearsals that I had to do last term.) But should be lots of fun—I look forward to it.

Daylight Savings ends this Sunday.
Yay!, we get to sleep in an extra hour. 😃😃😃
Interestingly, they (the gummint) get to make the sun get up an hour earlier, while we all get to sleep in an extra hour.
I dunno how they do that???

Is that in Australia given that y’all do winter time in June to August?

That was quick. Only moved them forward last Sunday here!
