we reached the 1000th page of this thread. Hurrah 🙌

I am waiting to overcome this horrible cold. I just simply don’t like when my vocal cords get ruined when a sore throat hits. It’s quite bothersome.

Indeed!! Didn’t realize until you pointed this out. Gosh, I started posting in this thread about 2 years ago at this point, when I got sick of the main sections.

Sorry about your cold. They do indeed suck, especially since I can’t sing when I have a cold. I had one particularly bad one last year and it took over two weeks for my voice to come back.

I just discovered “Passion Sources” today (see the music thread). I always love it when I discover new records I love. That first track especially… wow!! Moreover, just the experience of discovering new music I love is one of the best feelings.

IKR? I don’t really like when you get the sore throat.

You do choir for your music class right?

There are a number of ensembles I can (and do) perform in, choir is just one. I chose to do it this year cause I really missed singing.

Others include the new music ensemble, improvisation ensemble, gamelan, percussion, and numerous jazz ensembles. There are 21 large ensembles in total. This excludes the countless small ensembles there are. Many students perform and record with their own bands, too. I’d say that’s pretty amazing for a college of only 1400 students.

I’m retiring soon, last day is this Thursday 4/10/2025, 40 years in the auto engineering business .

We’re also downsizing our raspberries area, my mom started us with a few plants 20 years ago, which grew into a 25 feet wide zone. Mom had her’s 25 years originally. We’re cutting back to just 5-6 feet, I gifted 4 big groups of raspberries to work friends.
So, paying it forward to friends.

4 days left? Good luck with retirement. Mine keeps going up! The joys of an aging nation and not enough young people pulling their weight!

Hey there! I’m curious about these raspberry bushes. You expand them by cutting the branches and planting them in the ground, right?

Also, I have a bit of a question about iPads. Some places, like my school, use iPads only for kiosks and they’re using the M2/M3 iPad Pro. Why didn’t they just use a 10th-generation iPad or an iPad Air? It seems like a waste to use them without taking advantage of the promotion display , enhanced performance, and better quality.

Rubbish nights sleep. Been awake since 4 am with work stuff on my mind.
Too much to do this week. Prior to last year I’d just work evenings and weekends to get stuff done, but after years of that no more.
But it doesn’t help with the workload mounting up.

Oh well. A quick walk before I shower.
Same here.

I have not been able to do any HW for 2 days' straight due to how unwell I got.

I still am getting better but other commitments and having to rest up has surely hindered me with a weeks' worth of comp sci HW to catch up.

Also did not sleep well last night, had a terrible coughing fit. My AW caught me being awake 40 mins on last nights' sleep tracking.

Enjoy your retirement, and enjoy the raspberries when they come into season.

Remembering the raspberry patch at my parents house, the plants spread by themselves. The roots would spread sideways, then up would come new shoots. My recollection is that part of their ongoing gardening chores included using shovels to cut thru the spreading roots in order to prevent the plants from growing beyond their allowed area

Interesting.

Succulents are fascinating plants. You can simply grab the buds or prune off cuttings, and they will regrow once the roots develop in the soil.

Is that the case with raspberries?

I certainly recall that this is the case with strawberries, and their propagation by means of strawberry runners - so called because of this sideways aspect to their (invariably extraordinary successful) colonisation projects.

However, I was not aware that raspberry canes, or plants, were somewhat similar, and my memory is that they require a bit more attention than do the robust and energetic strawberry plants.

Yes raspberries are a very .. neighborly plant, they love to spread out !!!

Ear worms are on my mind. Specifically this one.

For some reason it came up in conversation between Mrs AFB and myself at the weekend, so I played it. Since then either Mrs AFB or I have been humming (or in her case) singing it, so it keeps coming back into the others mind.

WOW.....! I thought, "do I dare watch and listen to this, since one time when I was curious about a song people were discussing and mentioning that it was an ear worm I finally did listen and, yep, that one, that ear worm, stuck with me for too long of a time! Warning to all and sundry: don't ever listen to "Baby Shark!"

Getting back to this one.....I did listen and watch, as curiosity was pricking me. Whew! The video is....haunting, disturbing in some ways (brought back some memories), the song is meaningful and, yeah, the refrain is an ear worm. Gee, thanks, AFB! (J/K! Actually, I really like the song and am going to check out more by this artist/group.)

You’re welcome! Mrs AFB is to blame really. I’m just the go between!

Then there's Das kleine Krokodil. No links. I take no responsibility if you look that one up.

AGGGGGGHHHH!!!!! I should've heeded your warning, but, well, I was curious and..... Aw, isn't he cute, isn't the song cute.....I kept on watching and listening, captivated,(dare we say, at some point, trapped?) and now after I've long since shut off the video the darned thing, well, the music, is still going around and around in my head!!!!

AIEEEEEEEE........!!!!!!

Somewhere further back in this thread someone referred to raspberries (one of my favorite fruits) as being "succulents" and at the time I thought, "huh? What are they talking about?! That is absolutely, positively, certainly not accurate!" but just then didn't have the time to search out and provide a credible, reliable source. Finally remembered and got around to this now.....

Raspberries are not succulents. WTH would anyone get that idea? They are quite different altogether and are, as someone else in the thread has mentioned, considered "canes", and interestingly enough, part of the rose family.

Shakespears Sister. That takes me back. Saw them very early nineties at the Methodist central hall, I remember there being a near riot when everyone realised no alcohol was going to be available. Mind I can now hear that song in my head too.
