1Blocker is good but it doesn’t update its filters regurlaly, only with app updates. Adguard and Purify update their filters every few days or so, so you have always actual filters. And therefore I find adblocking in Adguard and Purify better.

I use Adblock Green. For $1.99 it blocks Safari ads and in-app ads. Works great.

Make sure it’s the pro version from App Store not the free version

It’s on sale now through Jan. 7 for anyone interested.

As a side note, does Adguard state they block ads in apps? I just bought it so haven’t had a chance to read their info.

I’ve been using 1Blocker and it’s worked great but if adguard actually blocks ads from in-app then I’m sold since I tend to use apps more than Safari

I have installed the hosts file that blocks ads in everything on my 7+, 6S+ and SE. There is a way to do this now without being jailbroken and only takes a few minutes to do.

I still have the old version of AdGuard Pro on my 7+ and 6S+ and SE that uses a VPN to block ads as well. I have that version on my computer so in case I accidentally update it to the latest version, I can just sync the old version right back on.

Google isn't much help and neither is the iPhone Files app. Can you explain or link to this way that you mention? Thanks!

I use adblock by futuremind.
Use any of DNS servers(such as adguard) and import DNS rules from https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/wiki/hostssources
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Twanthegreat/Adblockios/master/updatedAdBlockRulesv4.1.txt

Very easy and works great.
Can tou elaborate?
I’ve adblock and weblock as well and since the new DNS thing
This app stopped working
I just want to tweak that app so that it will block ads
Also I don’t want to use DNS servers i want to use just like Local DNS
That can filter ads roght on my device

And not route all my traffic to another server

Stopped using AdGuard Pro when Apple dropped the bomb on them about system wide access. Not messing around with DNS settings considering it's routed outside my control. Rather stick with 1blocker. I see AdGuard claims their new version waiting to be approved brings back system wide access. But it has to pass first.. we shall see. Then I'd switch back. But 1blocker works perfectly.

Sure, here's a step by step.

1. This is so important. Delete the app and reinstall it. I couldn't get it to work until I deleted the app and reinstalled it. I just don't know why. It took me 2 days to figure out.
2. Once you reinstall the app, go to the app and wait for icloud sync and once it finishes go to setting.
3. Go to manage DNS rules. Delete everything there.
4. Tap add IP address and type 0.0.0.0 under IPV4 and ::00 under IPV6. This way, it stays right in your phone not routing to a 3rd party DNS server.
5. GO back to setting and tap import DNS rules.
6. Under domain list location, copy and paste https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Twanthegreat/Adblockios/master/updatedAdBlockRulesv4.1.txt
This is the original blocklist that futuremind app had prior to VPN removal.
7. Under assign to IP/GROUP, make sure it says 0.0.0.0, ::00 if not tap it and select it.
8. Hit Done on the top right and it should start importing the domains. Once done, go back to manage DNS rules.
9. Tap 0.0.0.0. You should see 5 subgroups such as Chinese adservers etc. Those are the original blocklist that this app worked so good.
10. Once you confirm you got those, go back to the first page to slide UP to install VPN profile and turn it on.

NOW it should work! Go test it!!!

That seems like a lot work to just get an app to do what you expect. If it is working for you that is terrific but I wonder how many others would go through all that. I’m too lazy and would not.

I haven’t used any AdBlockers for sometime, but I thought I would try AdGuard. One of the things I liked about AdBlockers in the past was being able to very easily, right from Safari, report ads. I did this with AdGuard, but I get an auto reply saying it was received, then I get an auto reply saying I have to use some online tool to report an ad that they are not blocking. I didn’t even go through the whole process, but the first page says it’s page 1 of 8. So 8 steps minimum to report an issue? Seems like a terrible way to have to report something that the app is not doing properly in the first place.

I guess I’m off to try something different, maybe 1Blocker
