I haven’t used any AdBlockers for sometime, but I thought I would try AdGuard. One of the things I liked about AdBlockers in the past was being able to very easily, right from Safari, report ads. I did this with AdGuard, but I get an auto reply saying it was received, then I get an auto reply saying I have to use some online tool to report an ad that they are not blocking. I didn’t even go through the whole process, but the first page says it’s page 1 of 8. So 8 steps minimum to report an issue? Seems like a terrible way to have to report something that the app is not doing properly in the first place.

I guess I’m off to try something different, maybe 1Blocker

I haven’t encountered this yet, I could always report through email. Which tool were they referring to?

Yes, this is new. It is 8 pages, but it looks like every page has only about 2 things to fill in. But they could have made just one page I guess.

Why these adblocker, extension or content blocker for Safari?

You can add your own lists, also very popular lists from EasyList are included. And many extra functions.

I have tested many, but I don't know of any adblocker that are better in functionality than these 3 for these operating systems.

Purify is fast but support is very bad. Adguard Pro is the best Choice imho as with their DNS Feature it Blocks ads systemwide.

iOS 11 enhances the ad blocking experience even further, providing the ability to block trackers that watch what we do online and target ads at us based on that information.

Here, we list a few of our favourite ad blockers for iOS.

1) AdGuard —> MSRP: Free —> Buy from Apple

AdGuard is one of our favourite free ad blockers due not only to its simplicity, but also how customisable it is. There are over 50 filters built into the app, allowing you to see exactly what you want to see – and not the rest.Trackers that are used to target personalised ads at you are also blocked when using AdGuard.

2) AdBlock —> MSRP: $1.99 —> Buy from Apple

AdBlock is the original iOS ad blocker, and has been the go-to for many iPhone and iPad users since 2012. There’s a whitelist that you can add to and edit, and there’s even a handy Today Widget that allows you to toggle the service on and off on-the-fly.

3) Crystal —> MSRP: $0.99 —> Buy from Apple

Crystal is a solid performer when it comes to ad blockers. While the performance of some ad blockers may vary as databases are updated, Crystal always seems to be on top of blocking both ads and trackers. It’s easy to add websites to a whitelist via the Share Sheet in Safari, and the app UI is clean and simple too.Crystal is so confident of its capabilities that it claims it’ll load up pages 4x quicker and can save up to 50 percent of your data too.

4) 1Blocker —> MSRP: Free —> Buy from Apple

You can also hide annoying content directly within Safari without leaving the app. Simply activate 1Blocker in the Share Sheet and tap the content you’d like to hide. And, of course, it blocks over 5000 known trackers from watching what you’re up to online.

5) Purify —> MSRP: $1.99 —> Buy from Apple

Purify is a simple-yet-effective ad blocker for iOS that provides something a little different to the apps mentioned above. As well as offering standard ad- and tracking-blocking capabilities, Purify allows users to block other features that can eat data or drain your device battery.

Just downloaded Adguard Pro based on the recommendations here. There are so many filters to choose from; could someone who knows about or has experimented these filters recommend which ones to turn on to optimize ad blocking?

1Blocker is being ridiculous. The new X version is pretty much the same as the legacy one, just sugar coated and with a new interface. I am looking for recommendations as well to replace it.

----------------

UPDATE (from their twitter handle):
1Blocker X has a re-written internal architecture which allows us to work around Safari content blocker limitations and build more efficient, powerful features. While other apps are limited to only 50K blockers, we can now add up to 350,000 rules and increase it further as needed. The old 1Blocker app (now called Legacy) is going to stay around — we are not taking it down. You can keep using it if you don’t feel like upgrading to the X right away. Blocker for Mac is going to stay the same, at least for a while. iCloud sync will work between all 1Blocker apps. More details and full 1Blocker X reviews coming soon.

----------------

Absolute joke. There will be a new macOS application coming in the future too so more money to shed out.

As stated above AdGuard has many positive reviews. There's also a very simple one, Wipr, that also has a macOS version. I believe all you do is enable it and you're done, no rules or settings to mess with. It also has very good reviews.

As for 1Blocker, I have preordered the new version, apparently that gets you a 30% discount. They state that the current version will continue to work, and if it has been doing what you need there is no reason to think that will change. As for coming out with a new paid version, other app developers do that. And while I'm not ecstatic about it I believe it is a way to have the developer continue to support and improve the app. Some institute a subscription model to accomplish this, others launch a new paid version. I don't know which is better but this area is of significant importance to me and, going by the number of complaints about the Amazon redirected ad, to others as well. So I definitely want them to continue their development.

What you have should continue to work, and there are other free ones out there that also should work for a while. But these ad mechanisms also evolve so their usefulness may be limited.

Current version of 1Blocker is a freemium model where you can select to block only one type - ads, trackers, crypto ... You have to do in-app purchase to use all. Whereas, the new version is paid from the start.

I have used Adguard Pro and it's pretty good with their support which important for an Adblocker app.
I use 1Blocker only for blocking crypto mining, (not that it's necessary for the sites I usually visit but still good to have just in case any site starts using it without informing, and it may not be as wide spread on mobile as on desktop sites), Adguard Pro doesn't seem to offer that functionality.

I've switched from Safari to Brave because adblocking is built into the browser itself, and can be disabled with a simple tap for those sites that balk at ad blocking. It is a bit irritating to have to go to settings -> Safari -> adblocking to enable/disable it.

You can do it fairly quickly in Safari by tapping and holding the reload icon/button on the right of the address/search bar that's at the top.
