added it to iTunes but I can't get iTunes to sync over to my iPhone as iTunes doesn't detect the app as a newer version because they're both v2.11.14 despite the self-signed one being a newer build

I had the same problem...
You can install official version from appstore and then itunes show you whatsapp to update!

In this way you don't lose your chat!

ATTENTION!

One of my friends who's a security IT guy for about 10 years has looked in to this WhatsApp beta from pyger.com

He adviced me strongly to either delete that Profile via iPhone Config Programm or via iFile if you're iPhone is jailbroken.
Or in the last case a complete Restore of the iPhone.

Cause it will install ppp5 which is kind of shady/shabyy (cant find the right word, but let me say, its bad!!).

Just wanted to let you know this.
I just deleted this ppp5 Profile via iFile (can get iFile via Cydia store)

Would it be enough when i only delete the App?
Or can i delet this file without jailbreak and no dev account.

Thanks

deleting the WhatsApp is certainly not good enough.

download iphone configuration utility from the Apple website, download en install, then plug in your iPhone via USB and you will see all the Provisioning Profiles, and so also the PPP5.
Try to delete it from there. If it wont work like that (which is normal), Restore your iPhone via iTunes and the PPP5 will be gone.

good luck!:)

Just installed this on a completely fresh iPhone. No profile by that name installed, checked using iPhone Configuration Utility.

What directory did you find the file in iFile?

Please advise on where the profile is found and how to safely delete it.
What is the exact name of the profile?
Does it also show up in Settings->General->Profiles?
Does WhatsApp still launch after deleting it?
Are you positive that it does not get deleted after WA is uninstalled as iOS will ask for permission again after reinstalling?

/var/MobileDevice/ProvisioningProfiles

also, add dc.dm56 to the shabby/shady Profiles. So if you do have either have ppp5 and/or dc.dm56 I strongly advice to DELETE them via the way I earlier talked about.

Have you actually looked at the content of the profile?

not me, but my friend did (as posted earlier, security IT guy for 10 years now). Its a very technical thing, but he said that if you have these 2 Profiles, the Chinese site behind this can monitor your iPhone....and I do not think we want this :rolleyes:

EDIT: that dc.dm56 is likely a ''stolen Apple Certificate". I know it sounds technical, it is for me haha. But it all sounds very bad to me even for a noob

As far as i'm aware, after looking into it myself, it's just an Enterprise Certificate.

so all being said and done, is it safe to keep using it or shall we all delete the app. is there a easy way to add you own developer ID to the beta app

I just deleted beta version after going through your comment. Installed a fresh copy from app store. Planning to reset my iPhone. Is it really harm..? Can I go for reset..?

I think it's a good option to have access to the beta for those who are waiting eagerly for the iPhone 6 resolution update.

Of course its convenience at a risk but at least we have an option rather than waiting helplessly for the official update.

Thanks to Brown01 for helping with such an option.

If you are doubtful, don't install and stick to the official app and keep waiting for the official update from whatsapp.

My two cents.

What do you mean by that?
Apple doesn’t give Enterprise Certificates do everybody. There is some kind of security check involved so I am definitely questioning where pgyer got that certificate in the first place.

I only have the dc.dm56 certificate. I tried removing it but it did not work. When I press remove noting happens. I think the button is greyed out.
:(

Still, I don't understand the risk associated with this. I can't wait for App Store update, installed again.

if your iPhone is jailbroken, you can delete the Profile via iFile. If not jailbroken and not working in the iPhone Utility then you should Restore your iPhone. (check my post #655)

You can remove the said profiles via Xcode!! download it from MAP.

But still, I find it really creepy the profile does not show up in Settings -> General.

Haha! Same here. And I can't be bothered. I'm just after the looks on the iPhone 6. It's so clear and crisp with the beta. I don't mind trading that for a security compromise # cos I don't have anything important on my phone either.

you are not using any apps with passwords, not reading mail, surfing Safari?

ah, you are just using your iPhone to make and receive phone calls! in that case, you're safe!

Confirmed: You can install the Pgyer beta (overwriting installed App Store version)
and once install is complete, delete the weird profile in Xcode.

Whatsapp will still run perfectly.

I do actually but can't be bothered even if these guys take any data. I'm just so inclined to the lovely interface and I've given up on WhatsApp releasing the update anytime soon.

But let's say that they do happen to release the update; can we just install via the App Store and ignore the steps of removing this file which poses a security threat?

the risk:

A malicious provisioning profile could alter the network configuration of the device so that all subsequent traffic from the device is routed via a server controlled by the attacker. This would enable the attacker to read the data being transmitted, including sensitive data such as bank logins, usernames and passwords, etc.
