If I were Apple, and they might just do this, I would release the new Mini with the new TBD. Makes perfect sense. In fact I'm going to write a thread predicting it.:D

I'm sorry but I predicted this before u :p !

" The thinnest Mac we've done with the Slimmest display in the world"

It would make more sense to release the TBD with the new MacPro…

The mini would make sense to release with nothing, since it is the red-headed stepchild of the Apple line up. It's not a useless computer, merely overlooked. Apple would rather sell the prestige of a Pro or iMac which have shape and power and presence unlike the poor cookie-tin mini.

A good dream would be an updated Mini releasing silently alongside the Pro in December. That's a likely scenario.

A better dream would be a redesigned Mini coming in late summer 2014, though I'd like a mini sooner than that.

If they redesign it like they did the pro, it could look like darth vader's coffee cup (instead of the mac pro darth vader trash can)

I'm surprised they haven't made it into a ball.

There is no need to make it a square, since it can be put into a variety of unobtrusive shapes. Apple has done the box, the wedge, the cylinder… there are the ball and pyramid to go.

When I read this the first thing I thought of was a small mac mini sphere that would be possible to stick in the top of the new mac pro trashcan for a power boost or expansion.

-- yes I know this isn't possible with the current mac pro design it is just the image that popped in my head.

I suspect the Mac Mini will be updated once TB 2.0 is in plentiful supply for the nMac Pro. So probably late first quarter 2014. Maybe a slight cosmetic change such as dark edging on basically the same case design.

Apple probably won't make any great changes to the Mac Mini until the nMac Pro is seeing healthy sales.

Possibly something different in 2015 that could replace the iMacs. Apple could move on from the all-in-one iMac as it has moved on from the all-in-one tower Mac Pro.

Not many mac minis in refurb and no thunderbolt displays in refurb today. A sign? Probably not though:(

I'm hoping we see a Mac Mini soon. I've got one in my office now, but it is a couple years old, and I am thinking about taking the plunge and getting one.

My plan is to sell my MBA, buy the Mac Mini, plug it into the wall, and access it on my iPad via remote login. I do a lot of work on my iPad, but inevitably I need a file from my computer or an application to do some kind of task, so I have to carry the MBA along with me all the time. If anyone is working with the Mini this way and could give advice, it'd be much appreciated!

I'm currently a windows user but want to convert to the iMac Mini. On my current windows PC I am using 4 USB ports, 1 for my USB wired printer, 1 for my monitor, 1 for a USB wireless mouse and 1 for my usb wired keyboard. I want to keep my current mouse, keyboard and monitor (non apple) cause they still work and save me money.

If I get the imac mini it only comes with 4 USB ports so that uses all the ports I need, so then I won't have a USB to plug in my iPhone for itunes.

Many monitors have a built in USB hub
Or go buy a $5 hub at Best Buy.

no mac mini stock on amazon?

Just noticed that Amazon has no mac mini's in stock.
A few other sellers have a couple but amazon doesn't actually have any.

Also the mac mini server is on sale for $888

Could the refresh be eminent?

-- either way with amazon's holiday return policy of being able to return till Jan 31'st, I'll probably just grab the server version they have to tide me over till the refresh.

Very interesting observation. I've seen one or the other go out of stock temporarily before, but I can't recall seeing both unavailable simultaneously. Apple's online store still shows "ships within 24 hours" on both models though.

Let's hope you're right!

I'm surprised they haven't made it into a ball.

The wait is an Apple "beachball" ...

I hate the wait game to find out whether I should buy a new Mac Mini or go broke on the first to be released - Mac (mini) Pro. argh

Possibly was a price matching mistake. Price is back up to $980 but I see a refurbished mac mini for $888

I'm not sure I've seen a monitor that can only be driven through a USB cable. What other connections does your monitor support?

I am afraid the new Mini will have no replaceable RAM slots just like the new Mac Book Pros.

cross your fingers....I hope for a quick update in 2013, otherwise new redesign means "many things"....good and bad! Personally, I don't need a "tiny" Mini Mac with non-replaceable parts.

i think i would have to agree with you on the delay=redesign and redesign=bad news for upgradability…

so maybe next week i'll pull le trigger… :D

They'll always keep the memory interchangeable. Betcha we see minis with solid SSDs soldered to the board within 2 or 3 years. They'll be tiny computers with no moving parts and little configuration.

I doubt there will be a full redesign until 2015. They'll crunch everything down with the 14nm chips most likely.

False. The iMac 21" does not have soldered memory. The memory is still in banks, but the problem is that the memory isn't readily available (you have to remove the screen), but you can still upgrade it yourself. The 2005-2009 Mini's had the same problem. You had to completely tear apart the entire computer in order to upgrade the memory, but you could still upgrade it yourself.

No Apple desktop currently being made (that includes the iMac's that were just refreshed at the end of 2012 and the new Mac pro coming out in December) have soldered memory. Only the notebooks do.

Right,i was wrong :eek:sorry, still hoping to be wrong about Haswell (Broadwel ?) Mini.

Amazon still has no base or high end models in stock. This is now going on at least 8 days that I have been aware of it. Amazon MUST be one of the highest volume sellers of these units yet they have none. It really seems like a large clue that a refresh is imminent.

New redesigned Mac Mini & new thin Apple Thunderbolt Display silent debut :D:apple:

I can feel it coming in the air tonight.
