Lets be honest... most of youtube is garbage now, it's all an algorithm chase to make money, very few "reviewers" are true to themselves anymore, instead they say what they know they need to say to attract sponsors and keep their subscribers happy.

For instance, if someone has a large subscriber base of apple product users, and then publishes a review just dumping on a new apple product, they're going to lose subscribers, so they don't. They play it safe.

Sure you have Marques Brownlee, Linus Sebastian, Dave Lee, Justine Ezarik, even someone like Erica Griffin... there are a few that have transcended or have stayed consistent for years... but most "reviews" are just copies of one another. Lots of fancy slow sweeping close ups with short depths of field, lots of clean transitions, soft background music, floating spec sheets, etc. etc. etc. ...and don't forget the ever important 'close up face holding product with gaping mouth' thumbnail.

I watch reviews, of course, but I gain much more insight from users forums such as this one than I ever do on youtube.

I'm fading away from youtube these days. I've had enough of this crap so I'll stick to what I always did. Forums and articles from decent sources.

I think Macrumors is on of the best place to find good info as the forums are filled with amazingly smart people. :)

For what it’s worth… Prosser says May 19th at 9 AM EST is the lift of the embargo for the iPad Pro

19th. Just in time to grey out the 'Cancel Order' button.

Not that the reviews are bad, which most likely they aren't. It is curious though.
One still has a 2-week return period if they decide they don't want it after watching the reviews. Although, the 2-week period may be better spent putting it to use and seeing for one's self if it is worth it to them. :)

I just wants to know if the 12.9 2021 pro works with older version of magic keyboard. Might just cancel my pre order and wait after WWDC.

This has been discussed in other threads. The older keyboard will work, but since the new iPad is thicker, it might not close all the way. If it doesn’t close all the way, I’ll most likely replace mine and sell my old one, but there seems to be inventory for the new MK’s. So I’ll check it out after my ipad arrives and get the new one in store if need be.

Who knows when Apple sent the devices to the reviewers. And similar to devs praising the iPad Pro in the presentation... reviewers will pretty much paint the same picture. I think the Verge made a point on Vergecast... that it's like walking on eggshells when being the first to review Apple products.

Because... you wanna make sure you point out the negatives, but also... be as positive to the point you keep getting products. I won't really put too much stock in the reviewers... I'm more interested in WWDC, tbh.

Agreed. WWDC is the difference between a minor upgrade and a generational leap for the 2021 iPP.

No one is getting an XDR iPad Pro till July in any significant numbers. We may get a few Youtubers show off a XDR iPad Pro in a puff piece. In June maybe

They're due to be released in 2 weeks time.

I’m on this ice about it and if WWDC does show off BigSur running on the M1 iPad Pro
We already have confirmation that that's NOT going to happen.

Eloquently put. Because if 2018/2020 models doesn't see a huge benefit in terms of seperated features between 2021 models. As much as I advocate for the iPad, I have no problems returning the 2021 iPP and keeping my 2018 iPP.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention to @PBG4 Dude that Apple allows flexibility in that 14 day return period... someone mention on the forum. That you can initiate a return on the last day, but have an additional week or so to successfully return it.

Is it just me or wasn’t it like, “Oh, wow, they’re putting the M1 chip in the new iPad Pro!” right after the Spring Forward announcement; and now it’s like, “An M1 chip in the new iPad Pro? Pffffttth, it’s nothing more than a rebranded A14X!”

Not A12X but A14X/Z. I mean, the DTK Mac Mini featured the Apple A12Z so I actually think of that as the M0.

To me, the more surprising thing was 16GB RAM on 1TB/2TB considering Apple traditionally tends to skimp on RAM.

Yes, A14X is what I meant. Is the M1 not a bigger improvement than a sequential jump to A14X?

I'm sure the M1 is very close to what an 14X would be-- main difference being the significant jump in RAM for those that buy the more expensive tiers (1-2tb); I'm sure there's some other distinction from a pure A14X in terms of hardware that the M1 has to make it suitable for PC I/O (we get thunderbolt, for example).

Nope. A10X -> A12X is actually a bigger jump than A12X -> M1.

Basically:

A12X/Z is the A12 with 2 more high-performance CPU cores and 4 more GPU cores (albeit A12X only has 7 GPU cores enabled)

M1 is the A14 with 2 more high-performance CPU cores and 4 more GPU cores ($999 MBA and $1299 iMac have the 7 GPU core version)

It’s been discussed but nobody knows the answer. Apparently the new iPad Pro has more magnets in it, maybe the new keyboard supports those and the old doesn’t so can’t support the extra weight for it “floating” design. The thickness is obviously not a reason, as people already uses tablet coverings that are as thick as the difference, and the existing keyboard still closes just fine for them.

So I too am looking forward to the initial hands-ons, we need someone with hands-on to try it out and find out if the old keyboard works. I have the new magic keyboard on order, but I’d be very happy to cancel that.

Really looking forward to the reviews! :D

A shame people have been bashing Prosser for no reason.
some people just love the hate train. only advice i can give is to do some research for once.

Feel free to speculate, but that is not what Apple has officially said in it’s documentation at all. Excerpt and link below:

The first generation of the Magic Keyboard (A1998) is functionally compatible with the new iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation) with Liquid Retina XDR display. Due to the slightly thicker dimensions of this new iPad Pro, it's possible that the Magic Keyboard may not precisely fit when closed, especially when screen protectors are applied.
