Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Any good??

Although this is currently your newest option it seems:

Hmm it does seem Android manufacturers aren't interested in tablets really.

You cannot even put an 8" tablet in a pocket, 12" is just as portable.

Yes you can, I also used to carry my Nexus 7 around in its nice leather case in my pocket.

Well someone should tell all of the Android devs that!

Except, then they’d learn that Android users don’t pay for apps, so there’s that.

Well, I guess that explains the large number of "freemium" games that currently pollute the iTunes App Store, or why a few years ago Apple removed the browse by "paid" apps feature from that store well...

Not really. A 12" tablet is a bit bulky to hold.

If it's going to be desk only, no point getting a tablet.

I ageee. Might as well get a laptop or even a desktop.

While in many uses cases, I won't disagree that a laptop might be a better choice, I don't think it's so black/white in regards to large tablets vs. laptops.

If one's productivity needs can be achieved with a 12"+ tablet, I personally find it a much nicer solution as it offers additional usability. Yes, I'm not likely to sit and hold my 12.9" iPad for a marathon session of reading or watching videos but I find it perfectly fine to use in such a manner for shorter sessions. It's a much nicer consumption medium vs. a laptop (reading books, magazine, comics or documents), better for mobile gaming, and infinitely better for anything that's benefits from the use of a stylus.

Of course, everyone's use case and experience will vary but FWIW, I absolutely love my 12.9" iPP and it's my go to computing tool for all but the most processor intensive tasks.

How is a sheet of A4 paper cumbersome?

A sheet of paper is basically weightless.

The person I responded to said it was going to be on a desk all the time.

I can fit my HDX 7" in cargo pants, somewhat larger displays need a thinner bezel.

Oh man you still got your HDX, I sold my Nexus 7 for my 8" Sony tablet, in retrospective it wasn't the best decision.
I use an iPad a lot now, so I can see the appeal of the bigger tablets, maybe Samsung will mpmake another 12" model with Android?

I bought it sealed from ebay, it had been discontinued for quite a while.

No, tablets will never be that light. Batteries are not light.
Look how far we have come from not that long ago.

Not very far.

That's right. Battery technology has stalled. If you want a 12" tablet that weighs the same as paper, you'll need to decrease the weight there. You'll need a long lasting battery that weighs very little and actually works in the longer term.

No, we advanced a lot, but little in the grand scheme of things.

Much more advanced battery technologies already exist than what it is in production.

And video capable electronic ink was already demonstrated years ago, as well as paper thin flexible displays.

Add to that the continued improvement in low power electronics.

There are also flexible electronics.

I would say I would prefer a tablet that is like a rigid piece of A4 cardboard, maybe foldable, rather than something paper thin and rollable.

As a guy who likes tablets, I can tell you why they don't sell. A 12" tablet is a niche market. Most use tablets for content consumption, and that size just isn't as good for that.

I disagree. I bought the new Pro 12.9 for content consumption and it's great watching movies and reading whilst balancing it on my lap. The 10.5 inch tablet seems like an iPad Mini to me now and everything feels small and clustered together on it.

I think the weight issue is overblown. It's most definitely heavier than 10.5 but that big screen more than makes up for it.

I have a MiPad2 windows tablet at 8" and it fits inside a back jeans pocket, very handy as long as I don't forget and sit on it. I think the issue with the larger tablets is the ergonomics, things like the kickstand on the surface pro. I could never live without a kickstand and really am baffled why every single tablet doesn't have one. Not having to hold up a 12" tablet is a huge help in making it mobile, of course you still have to carry it.

Anyhoo this will all be resolved in the near future with foldable tablets.
