It looks like a great phone. It actually makes it really hard for me to recommend the XS series to someone since most of the differences will go unnoticed by most users (the extra money won’t).

No love. Old tech. Camera well below Xs. No 3D Touch inferior display etc. Better off saving some money and by a 8+.

What is old about it? The back camera, while not dual cameras, is the same wide angle camera as the XS and will take great pictures. Front camera is the same. CPU is the same. LCD is a new screen and new tech. I know the resolution is lower but all the hands on are extremely positive about the screen being one of the best seen. Beside Resolution isn’t everything for display quality - even in TV things like HDR and wide color gamut improve picture quality way more than resolution.

That said - I do agree with the criticism that it is overpriced. But this is Apple. We pay extra to be overcharged.

It kinda looks like a Chinese knock off of the X with those huge bezels in my opinion.

I can see that. I bet it looks better in person.

Forgot the "720p" LCD screen which is kinda disappointing for the price you pay.

I think the XR is a great option, especially with the 128GB offering. I may finally upgrade from my 6s. I’m on my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro more than my phone. The XR will has an attractive screen size to me and is a little smaller than the 6/7/8 Plus.

I can see apple getting rid of 3D Touch altogether soon. XR is the best buy of the 3 phones this year imo. Single camera is good, I've very rarely found the need for the 2nd camera on the X. The battery advantage should be good on the XR. The resolution is slightly more than 720p, it's 828 which is perfectly fine. I'm not a huge fan of the oled screens when scrolling as the text is blurred which hurts my eyes trying to focus.

I think the iphone XR is a very viable option. What are your opinions about this device?
I would be embarrassed to buy a $749 iPhone in 2018 with a lower screen res / PPI than a $749 iPhone in 2014. Not to mention the lack of 3D Touch, a feature introduced on the $649 iPhone in 2015.

Though I'm sure plenty of others buy it, the Xr is a low value-for-money upgrade / downgrade and is not for me.

If the Xr had the dual camera system I'd be getting it over the Xs. The biggest draw I see for this device is definitely going to be battery life. They compared it to an 8 plus after all. If it really is that good it'll be a very nice device for whoever gets it.

The screen being lower res probably contributes a ton to better battery life and performance. It has less pixels to push around so that makes sense. If you can't see the pixels even at 300+ ppi does it not being 1080p really matter that much?

It’s $100 cheaper than my 64GB 6S+ was at launch. I know the screen is worse and no 3D touch, but I think the other upgrades make it a good value for someone coming from an older plus model.

Great value, specs, and design. It all comes down to that screen. If they were able to fix the bleed issues and it looks just as good as previous lcd’s, it will be perfect for a lot of upgraders from the 6, 6s, 7, or 8.

Apples profit margin on the Xr will be ridiculous. Just wait for Q4 earnings. Using old parts in a new phone. Classic!

I had every intention of buying two of the iPhone XR's but after reading more information about it, I decided that I will be passing on it.

The problem with the iPhone XR for me is:
  • Bigger bezels than the XS/XS Max
  • No 1080p screen
  • No 4x4 MIMO for better cell service
  • No 3D Touch
The good thing about the iPhone XR to me:
  • Adds band 71 for T-Mobile support (I currently use Verizon but have been considering T-Mobile for some time)
  • Uses LCD instead of OLED (OLED screens give me eye strain/headaches due to PWM)
  • Has a storage option of 128GB (which I think is the perfect amount of storage space for me)
If Apple can somehow release a XR fixing the issues I have with it, it would be a great device in my opinion. I was hoping for a iPhone XS but with a LCD screen instead. Not a phone that offers less.

There are plenty of people who will buy these. should be interesting. It might even be a more sensible option. Time will tell.

I would try it first, I guess you referring to the OLED screen?
Correct, I've tried using OLED screens in the past and it didn't go well for me. That said, I'll wait for notebookcheck.net to test the PWM on it as they should have that tested within a few days after official release.
