Took my new iPad WiFi out for the fist time this morning to test it out. Went to my local Costa. WiFi was poor but usable.

I then tethered to my iPhone and WOW! Super fast. Got 150 Mbps and everything lightening fast. This “test” has put my mind at rest about getting WiFi only. I’ve always got Cellular in the past but for the (very few) times I am away from home I’m sure using my iPhone’s unlimited data will be fine.

Yeah, that is what I am doing mostly as well. No extra cost in tethering while it would cost me the equivalent of around $8 a month to get another SIM on my data plan, on top of the extra cost of the iPad with cellular.

What‘s the extra cost to your cellular plan to include tethering? If it’s already built into your plan I guess you’d have to see what a plan without it costs to be able to tell.

I’m in the UK and there aren’t separate costs (that I’m aware of) for tethering. I’ve just got a plan that includes unlimited data, calls and texts. Cost me £35, so about $49 a month.

Any place but here or there....
Neither. I returned the 11” iPP today. Realized I am not the iPP target audience, the 2020 Air is more than enough for me.

Yes, the 11” iPP was very fast with almost everything, but I did not notice any diffence in stability or performance in using Procreate. I thought having double the Air’s RAM would make a huge difference in Procreate, but it did not. And the M1 ran very hot too often for my liking so that sealed the return. Finally, I love Touch ID on the Power Button so I hope this becomes a feature on other iPads and the iPhone.

If you need or want that power and speed, the M1 iPad Pros deliver and then some. I hope everyone enjoys theirs.

Good for you to know what you need and not be "afraid" to return and keep what you prefer.

On another note. I’ve been looking at procreate as I want to use my Apple Pencil more. It’s says "in app purchases"? What do you get for it and do you recommend? (I’m hopeless at drawing, looking for something more like colouring in?).

Not sure if the current version of Procreate offers in app purchases (they used to and it was years ago when I bought the sole in app purchase).

I was hopeless at drawing too before I bought a 2017 iPad Pro, pencil and Procreate. I am very slowly teaching myself to draw and Procreate paired with any iPad and pencil is why I can draw now. My avatar is one of my better recent doodles. There’s a wonderful thread here of folks sharing their iPad art. Very inspiring!

Procreate has wonderful shortcuts for coloring in images (though I still haven’t memorized how to do that.). Can’t wait to see what do you with Procreate, it‘s worth the price.

I am very happy folks have the 2021 iPad Pros available, they are great.? They are just way more iPad than I need or want. ?
