The Graphics/Display screenshot I provided above shows I'm running the XDR at 6016x3384 Retina 6K

That section you showed just shows how the graphics is being used as in terms of scaling. When I hover over my "More Space" box, it shows it's being displayed as this which is the same as when I was using my Vega II.

What is yours showing then if you hover over both the 6900XT and the Vega II?

Pro Vega II : 3008x1692 (native 6K)
6900 XT : 3008x1692 (scaled from 5K)

But if you go GENERAL > ABOUT you can see the real native resolution.

The thing is, I'm okay with native 5k scaled to 6K until:
"Using a scaled resolution may affect performance."

Looks like there is no way to go native 6K at the moment without a MPX module ...

I see what you're saying. So the General > Displays screenshot will be useful in this case.

Yes, it shows similar resolution to yours if using the 6900XT. Switching back to the Vega II shows native 6K.

I didn't realise the third-party GPU didn't even display native 6K.
 
Kind of on a tangent, but still concerning the 6900XT + 2019 Mac Pro, I'm on the latest Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1 version with a Gigabyte RX 6900XT OC. I removed the Vega II awhile back.

I noticed once in a while there's a glitch on the XDR screen. Just a small portion on the screen glitching like it's refreshing. It's not occurring on the other screen - an Asus 32" PG32UQ.

So basically, the card is powering the XDR at 6K and the Asus at 4K.

I also constantly boot into BootCamp, and this refresh-like screen glitch is not appearing at all.

Wondering if someone is experiencing the same occurrence on screen as it appears to be a Mac OS driver issue.
To answer my own question, reinstalling the Vega II and connecting that to the XDR removes the refresh-like glitch. I guess Apple drivers are purposely limited in performance when using third-party GPUs.

Well, I’m sorry to give this news, but finally we manage to point the true! There is no hub or special cable that can make a non MPX card delivery native 6K. Definitely design by Apple as if you take things to bootcamp my 6900XT connected via USB-C (with original TB3) can even delivery power to all my peripherals connected to the Pro Display XDR. This is just sad. Any non MPX GPU under macOS is just a rendering card.

At least when Apple abandon the last Intel Mac Pro, it can still be a wonderful Windows machine if you fit 2x RTX 4090 😂

You can connect directly to the USB-C port on the 6900XT but you won't have brightness control.

The Belkin cable will let you have all the controls on the monitor and run at 6k natively with no problem.
This software may allow you to re-gain the brightness control.

 
But @wago have a W5700X (it's an MPX module), how this can be compared with a third-party like the 6900XT? I really need to make sure before purchase this cable as I'm on Europe. Thank you!

I check with @wago, he is running a Studio Display 5K so he is fine, on the limit of native resolution. Also, your card and your display, also perfectly fine. The situation here is: Pro Display XDR, it's not possible to delivery native 6K resolution without a MPX module. Check my screenshoots at #77.
 
I had a Belkin VR cable delivery ordered from China using one of the recommended stores in this thread. Same deal. Maximum 5K native resolution with the XDR. Plus it's a super thick cable that it won't even properly latch into the port at the back of the Mac Pro with a 6900XT. Any wiggling with the cable will instantly disconnect the monitor. I have a sit-stand desk, so it can't be still.

FYI on my cable experience.

As we confirmed previously, 5K native is the maximum resolution on macOS by design for non MPX module.
On bootcamp windows, no problem, 6K, but for MacOS there is no way around.
I believe that I have reached my final upgrade on Mac Pro, I'm sure I can push it +3 years or more!

Your signature shows you have a W6900X MPX card? Do you have a high refresh monitor other than an XDR? I'm trying to determine if these MPX cards can support high refresh rate or if Apple has crippled it like they have crippled the Vega II MPX card.

Unfortunately I don't, just the XDR. But have a look on this link:

The refresh rate is limited by the monitor's capability. The GPU itself including the Vega II should be capable for high refresh rates - in theory.

For the AdaptiveSync certification on monitors, it should be able to reach 144Hz. But I'm not sure what Apple's implementation is as they don't have a high refresh rate external monitor, unfortunately.

I was not sure about the new Studio Display but it's 60Hz maximum. To be honest I can't see myself upgrading the XDR very soon ... only for something that look like this and with specs like 12K, 120Hz, infinity contrast, touch screen and zero halo effect 😂

Sorry to exhume this thread, but I have a 2019 Mac Pro with a W6800X Duo MPX module. Did anyone find an RX6900XT card that only takes up the remaining two PCIe slots? It'd be a cheaper expansion than adding another Duo.
