Sounds like an opinion. Like here’s another opinion - if someone thinks only basic colors are acceptable, maybe they lack creativity or adventurousness ;)

In theory any color can be mixed with any. Which combo looks good is a different matter.

Received my Brand Grip about an hour ago for my iPhone 12 Pro. First impressions: fit is very snug, the sides are even grippier than last years version. It has a more rugged texture on the band that goes around the sides of the phone. Buttons are very tactile.

Can you post a couple pictures of it on the phone? Are the sides high or low on the glass?

I almost bought one of these for my 11 Pro last year but held off because I knew it'd eventually be relegated to the bedside drawer with the rest of them when I decided I like my phone better without a case.
