Yea know what you’re saying. When I had the Apple silicone and slapped it on after running the Sheath I was like “wow holy sh*t this is what a case should feel like!”.

How’s the grip on the Mag4?

The grip is great. Soft’ish to the touch and feels like I am holding a naked iPhone.

Fingerprints and smudges are a non-factor. I am not sure where people get that Aramid is a fingerprint and smudge magnet. They must be eating greasy fried chicken and handling their iPhones 🤣

My experience is that the amount of fingerprints that show on aramid varies quite a lot from one brand/model to another.

You said the Pitaka pro is a fingerprint magnet. What other brand / model have you tried that is better with fingerprints?

Some reviewers have said that the Pitaka pro is too boxy, not rounded and somewhat sharp edges? Do you find that to be true?

Also an important factor for me but not the most important is grip. How’s the Pitaka pro grip? When I ran the Benks for a good bit it felt like holding a wet bar of soap. Didn’t feel secure in my hand.

Some people don’t mind fingerprints and smudges but I do. When I ran the Benks it was a fingerprint magnet and smudge magnet. Although both Pitaka and Benks are same do you find the Pitaka is easily susceptible to fingerprints and smudges?

From my experience - yes, it's not rounded and has somewhat sharp edges. The chamfered edge helps take the sharpness down a bit, but I think it could use another few degrees of radius (closer to the naked 15 shape) to be truly comfortable. Grip-wise, it's slippery at first, but gets better as you use it. I'd love to see some slight ribbing (like my old Evutec below) to offset the smooth texture of the case.

The Pitaka is very much a fingerprint magnet but unlike high-gloss/clear cases, you can do a quick wipe down with a cloth or t-shirt and have it look brand new in seconds without worrying about scratching the heck out of it. I hate grubby looking cases and aramid has never bothered me. It's nothing like a greasy silicone case (yuck).

Yes, the edges are certainly more pronounced and angular than on most other cases, but as I mentioned before they provide a secure way to hold the phone as the aramid material is not grippy at all, and because of its smooth surface it will show smudges. None of these characteristics pose an issue for me and I love this case, but it is most likely a no-go for you.

Smudges I might be able to accept but if it’s slippery that’s a def no go.

That Evutec looks like it has nicely chamfered edges.

It feels like the entire case market this year is a bust. Every case has some critical flaw. I keep leaning towards Mous but I hate to reward them for adding more excessive branding and it seems too thick for day to day use, plus too expensive. I have the Benks Armor Air which keeps the form factor of the phone but the edges are sharp and making handling the screen unpleasant. I also have the Benks Armor Pro (they sent it to me when the Armor Air had an issue with a corner being loose) and it feels more protective but is too heavy and thick (and most of the protective cases are HEAVIER than the Armor Pro!). I can't find something that is reasonably lightweight and doesn't ruin the form factor of the phone without it feeling cheap. Also way too many cases don't have microfiber lining which should be the norm.

I know I probably sound way too picky but if I'm going to have my phone, the thing I use all day every day, in a case it better enhance the experience of using the phone or at least not detract from it. So far I've yet to find a case that can do this. I would simply run my phone without a case but I have a small child and that's a recipe for disaster.

Had similar thoughts on the armor air, the magez 5 has been the winner for me.

I don't really like that the bottom and top is exposed, but if the sides feel smooth I might have to go for it anyway. I don't mind the side cutouts for the buttons but the top and bottom being exposed seems needless.

I agree, I like the coverage of the armor air better, but the smooth sides, corners, edges made the magez 5 my go to.

Thanks! I watched Tee's video on it and it does look high quality for what it is. I've even been debating the Arc Pulse for at home, and I would continue to use the Armor Pro when I go out.

I took a chance on this for at home. Supposed to arrive later this week.

The Benks armor pro has straight boxy edges that aren’t chamfered.

The best form factor to me is the Apple silicone with slightly chamfered edge but the problem is it’s silicone. The next closest for me is the Sheath which isn’t perfect. Could be lighter in weight and a bit thinner in depth.

The Apple silicone dimensions LxW are the same as the Sheath but the depth is 1mm thinner. Some say 1mm is nothing but I can tell the difference. The Apple silicone weighs 28g vs 40g for the Sheath. Some say that the Sheath offers same protection as the silicone. For me I don’t find that to be the case. I think the Sheath offers more protection.

That's an interesting idea. I use a magsafe popsocket and I worry this would pop off every time I removed it.
I feel like you’re a clone of me…I also use the MagSafe pop socket. Check out this video at the 4:20ish mark. It’s the only vid I’ve found of the phone back, but it appears to work with the MagSafe pop socket.

Yep, I agree, the Apple silicone case would be perfect if it weren't silicone. I actually quite like the feel of the silicone they use and I love the colors but they're horrible lint magnets, are hard to pull out of pockets, and the wear and tear on them is ridiculous. I've never had a case wear out as fast as the Apple silicone.

Is the nature of the aramid fiber such that it is flexible enough to allow for such a design? On the Pro they've gone with a TPU-like material on the front half of the sides, top, and bottom to be able to get full coverage and it is still extremely stiff. My sense is that a 100% aramid case would lack the necessary flexibility for a completely enclosed case. Those woven fiber Pitaka cases are a thing of beauty and I can't imagine how wonderful it would be to have one in the same format as my MagEZ Case Pro 4. It would probably have to be constructed using the same partial TPU sides for flexibilty but I wouldn't mind the trade-off for an aramid case with deeper texture and full-around coverge.

One thing though Apple has a 1 year warranty.

I have a dedicated cell phone pocket on the pants I wear that are work pants made with performance materials. Didn’t have a problem with lint and pull out of the cell phone pocket easily.

I agree. After returning a bunch I still have a drawer full and none are without some drawback. I think it’s going to be one of those years where I rotate between 5-7 cases and just enjoy the variety.

Alright well, doing a quick check on Amazon I saw the light blue silicone case was on sale for $35 with an additional 20% off coupon so I'm going to give it a try. If there are still issues for me I'll return it within the return period.

Every aramid case shows fingerprints, but the Mous and PR are better than the Pitaka Pro. I don’t currently own one, but in the past the thinner Pitakas had more texture and were less prone to fingerprints.

Your favorite, the Sheath, is the best at hiding fingerprints of all the cases I’ve used.

Amazon has the Apple silicone for $35 less 20%?
