The Sheath seems very popular, at least here on MacRumors. I like it, but I have to wonder if anyone—myself included—would give it a second glance if it was a $10 case on AliExpress. Their social media marketing and product placement efforts seem exceptionally effective.

I’ve been using the Sheath since they started making them. The 7 Plus, I believe? There’s a reason they’re so popular among the most rabid iPhone users. They’ve always hit the perfect balance between fit (not too loose, not too tight), protection (they’re protective without being over the top), and looks (they’re at home with someone that works outside, like me, or in an office environment).

This year is the first time I can remember that they’ve had issues. And let’s be honest here…the issues are overblown, for the most part. I get lots of people here don’t like that they can develop the “condom ring”, but it simply doesn’t bother me. I just don’t see the difference between that developing on a Sheath and intentionally buying a case like the Frosty that already has a ring embedded in the back.

Then, just to show how personal cases can be, the action button debacle, where they released their initial run that had an open action button. I actually prefer my Sheaths that have the open action button. But man, you’d have thought they’d committed a cardinal sin not covering it. So they bring a covered action button and people complain it’s not clicky enough.

My point with all of this is cases are personal. The Sheath is my favorite case, by far. Followed by the Synthesis. The Frosty is probably 3rd, followed by the Nomad Sport and Nomad Horween.

I’m not making excuses for Caudabe and I’m not their fanboy. I just love how their cases fit and feel and think the issues people have ranted about this time around are overblown.

It's funny because they are super popular here, and I do think they look and fit great, but I don't think I have ever seen anyone IRL using one and I live in NYC

It's funny, I've never seen anyone else using one in real life in the 10 years they've been around. But I think they're still a niche case company, even after 10 years.

I think it also matters that they don't really sell outside of their website and the fact that until a few years ago, they only made iPhone cases. Even now, they only make the Sheath for the Ultra of the Samsung S-series (I'm currently waiting for the Sheath to release for my S24 Ultra which should be in the next week or so). The funny thing is, the first couple were nothing like their iPhone counterparts. They were super thin and more like a Totallee. But last year they finally made it like the iPhone version and made it thicker and more stiff. It was by far my favorite case for my S23 Ultra and I anticipate the same for my S24 Ultra.

You make some great points. And like I said, I think the Sheath is a good case (like you, I’ve been buying them for many years going back to the early days). I just think they are arguably over-hyped for being essentially a basic, one piece molded TPU case, though admittedly a nice one that checks quite a few boxes. Perhaps that’s part of the appeal - the simplicity. For me personally, the Sheath’s superpower is the texture, which hides fingerprints and scuffs so well. That’s what has kept me coming back to it more than anything else.

Agree. This isn't difficult. I prefer to buy quality products, and their products, especially the Sheath, have always been great. In the few times over the years I've had a problem, they've stood behind their products and their warranty. I even started using the Synthesis this year which surprisingly I've really gotten to love.

They have reseller's here.

I think you're right. The simplicity and texture are what I love about them (I know others here don't like the texture, thus why cases are so personal). I love that it doesn't show fingerprints at all.

I just wish they'd get a little more adventurous with their color selection. I need that bright royal blue they did a couple of years ago.

Oh yeah, there are definitely resellers out there. I meant more like Amazon or selling in a brick and mortar store like Best Buy. Them making people have to order then wait more than 2 days to get the case definitely keeps them on the fringe of case makers, unlike other like Spigen or Speck.

Not sure how a piece of rubber can be high quality, guess their marketing really does work

I'm not sure why you're attacking me, but whatever. Sounds like you and I differ in how we see the world. You see a "piece of rubber", I see something that fits like a glove unlike many other cases I've tried (including the Apple Silicone case), has protected my phone from my clumsiness more times than I can count, has a nice texture that slides in and out of my pocket easily, buttons work great, magnets are really strong. It looks great, too.

Like I said, I buy quality products and they make quality products, at least the ones I've gotten. I have their cables too. Great cables.

This reminds me of that guy on YouTube who reviews pizza. To people who can't tell the difference, pizza is pizza and even Costco pizza is good. To someone who really understands pizza, there's a difference between a really good joint and some random place where pizza is just another menu item.

I don't think so. The people complaining about it were the ones that it mattered to. It's similar to how you didn't like the light being seen on the bottom lip by the charging port of the Ryan London, most people probably wouldn't even notice. If nothing else, this is a very picky group lol.
I’m referring to the protection and when someone drops it, the silicone gets damaged of course. But in most 4-6ft drops the silicone protects the phone.

First 2 things I want in a case is good grip on the sides and a smooth back. Sheath is too much like sandpaper on the back especially.
Nomad and Symmetry ticks those boxes.

I don't know why this iPhone year, this case thread is so angry with people not accepting opinions of others.

If you like a case, great. Recommend it and give your reasons.

If you don't, again, great. Give your reasons as to why you wouldnt recommend it.

No need for the constant telling each other that opinions are wrong.

Some people have great experiences, some have bad. In all walks of life.

So it’s not that good then 😊
It’s good for $30-$35. Same with the Sheath. Plus you’re getting the 2 best form factors in the business.

I dropped my phone from chest height quite a few times and my iPhone survived the drop both in the Apple Silicone and Sheath, so yea both are good 😊

Come on.... You've purposely cut and ripped that case apart to determine it's quality? You could do that with any case.

I'm not a huge fan of Caudabe but using this as an example is probably a tad unfair
Yea I agree. Looks like he purposely ripped that case apart or his dog got hold of it.

Someone with sense! I hate the arguments. The enjoyment I (used) to get was seeing differing opinions, and research/deciding my choices. If we all convinced each other to think/like the exact same things life would be boring!

How did this happen??
He got hungry and ate it lol. Jk, he purposely destroyed it which you could do to any case honestly.

There’s no perfect case this year. Every single one of them has a flaw. Pick one or a few of them that you can live with.

My current rotation:
-Synthesis (buttons are meh. Action button was the worst…caved and got the open cutout version which helped a lot then made the slits a little bigger to make the other buttons more tactile)
-PR frosted (quality control lacking - still haven’t glued on the loose alignment magnet, defrosting)
-Bullstrap (open bottom might be a con for some, expensive)
