Do the Otterbox Symmetry like the Vader (the one with the big vader helmet) and R2D2 from Target ones have a shiny, slick back? Debating if I want to get one, but it seems it would be slippery with that back if its hard slick plastic. . May just go for a regular Symmetry.

Yes. Slick

I have the midget Vader head Symmetry and it’s slippery but not to bad FYI I also think it’s thinner smaller then the standard Symmetry

i found surprisingly the back of both the smooth (Vader) and textured (regular Black) symmetry to be pretty slick. the sides, however are nice and grippy. i think the only downside of either is whether they might scoot a little more easily across a countertop or smooth desk/table.

i was all set to have Target price match the Symmetry for an XS yesterday but i was surprised to see how loose the case was around the buttons (moreso than the Sheath)...i am guessing its because of the material they use, in addition to the less structure around the buttons.

i am now considering the Synthesis case as my next option... i wonder if it has any more front lip protection compared with the Sheath and Symmetry (which i found were about the same)

If yer car has leather I'd suggest putting non-slip tape on the back side of yer phone. If it's cloth then scuffing would probably work??

Just lightly scuffing with a wire wheel grinder makes it incredibly grippy. I have an extra Sheath, It's slippery but not as bad as most cases are.

After a couple of weeks, the rough feeling groves smooth out a little actually making it feel better in the hand but still provide great grip.

I would rate the grippyness of a stock Sheath around 60-70%. Apple Silicone 50-60%. Modified Sheath 90-95%.

I didn't scuff the back only the left & right side on the curved part. It was all I needed because of the way I hold cell phones.
Thanks for the info Husker... Did you work the wire wheel grinder by hand, or did you use it in the dremel? I used it in the dremel and the case is ugly as sin now. I must have been too heavy handed. Some parts look whitesh-blue instead of the normal Navy Blue.

How's the lip on the Evutec (especially if you are using tempered glass)? The Target I went to had it on display, but I couldn't take it off their display to see. It felt slim from what I could tell.

The lip is good. About the same or a little higher than my Sheath. Not using a screen protector.

The Vader Symmetry cases have a smooth finish on the back while the regular has a textured surface. Both slippery on the back but the grippy sides make up for it.

i found the side grips more than adequate as you suggest. i was very surprised by how much the case pulled away from the volume and power buttons when i put the black symmetry on my XS yesterday. what are your thoughts on this? i guess its ok as long as it doesn't cause the case to pop off in a fall. i'm guessing though that dust may be more prone to find its way into the bezel given the loose fit in these areas?

i really wanted to like the case, but decided to not buy one yesterday due to that discovery. but i'm assuming i could do another amazon price match at a later date...still wondering though if i should try a Synthesis out....seems it may be Caudabe's version of a Symmetry (similar thickness and protection...)

I used a table grinder. You can still see Red Silicone on the wires.

Look close at the MIRACASE LIQUID SILICONE I did on the sides. The groves aren't deep but are very Grippy. This is my 2nd favorite case.

Wow, good job with the mods. Your's looks great.

You don't have any of the whitesh coloring that I do. Fortunately, this case is only temporary since Caudabe is sending the updated case for the XS next week. I don't think I will try the mods with the new case. Obviously, I'm not very handy. lol

The Synthesis will be smaller more minimalist then the Symmetry FYI I wonder if something was wrong with the Symmetry case you test drove? I have an XS Max and my midget Vader case only comes off if I do the side by side bottom near speaker removal attack there’s no way mine would pop off in a fall. I know as I’ve dropped it a few times now and midget Vader stays on strong and I don’t see anything wrong with the case. Once on hardwood floors and once on tile. I’m 6 foot 2 and was holding it so was easily 5 feet if not a little more. The tile drop I tripped on my cat and it bounced on impact. Midget Vader is legit it’s my top two of six cases (Monarch Carbon- Apple Leather- Vader Symmetry- Evutec Carbon- lame Caseology Waterfall- Hipster Caudabe Lucid Clear). The Synthesis will look no where close to the Symmetry I’ve had the Synthesis for years on previous IPhones FYI

How is the midget Vader head image holding up? Any scratching, peeling or anything?
I need to start using mine.

Thanks for sharing this experience. What I found was that I could easily pull at the sides near the volume and power buttons. The corners didn’t pop off but I was surprised at how easily and how far away I could pull the case away from the phone. It seemed pretty snug when I put it on corner by corner.
