I don't think Speck ever made a Candyshell Grip in black/black. The Presidio Grip, yes, which had a more muted color palette overall.

I've had both and don't find much of a difference between them.

If I had to choose, I'd pick the more scratch resistant matte finish of the Presidio over the glossy Candyshell.

My favorite is actually white/black, for that "Stormtrooper" look, but since I usually buy them at discount, there isn't really a choice of color.

Edit:

Speck does have a shiny version, the Presidio Glossy Grip, in black/black.

I'm sticking with my xs max for another year so I've lately decided to try out a few other cases. I just found a UAG Plyo on ebay for about 1/2 the normal price and have been using it for a day....I can't believe I didn't try this one sooner! It is by far the best clear case I have tried yet, very tight fit and feels good in the hand. The buttons are pretty good, not SolidSuit good but better than many. If you haven't tried out the Plyo I would highly recommend it.

Well I broke my promise and upgraded my IPhone XS Max to the Max pro. So I have a bunch of mint condition cases if anyone is interested I now have to recollect all new cases :(

Which cases do you have for the xs max ?

Ugh why did I read this... lol. My #1 question... how’s the grip?

I would say they're not worth it. I think a lot of the less expensive leather cases feel and smell better than the leather on the Vaja.

I am currently on my third Sheath and it's most likely the case I will settle on going forward. (The first I gave away and the second was damaged when I went a little too wild while sanding the bottom). I now understand why some people in this thread complained that the buttons weren't responsive. My current Sheath has stiffer buttons than my previous two.

Well, in the end, a sale stacked with a discount code meant I had to satisfy my curiosity.

I'm satisfied by the feel and smell of the leather, which doesn't have that over-processed quality of Apple's leather cases which I think robs them of much of leather's character. I still think they're nice, but not worth the cost (which would still have been more than what I paid for the Vaja).

That said, I don't know if I'll keep it. I've been spoiled by the functional aspect of the cheap-ish Tucch folio I've been using, whose design and magnets are strong enough to keep the flap closed (as well as trigger sleep/wake).

While the Vaja also has those magnets, they're either not strong enough, or the additional thickness from my screen protector and/or insufficient additional "lip" depth in the design is preventing the flap from "latching" like the Tucch does, and I'm not sure I can live with that. A lot of folio cases share the same issue, especially when used as wallets, which they try to overcome with ugly closure tabs, or don't even try at all (like Apple's folio).

It might not be as much of an issue for casual use, and for active use, I've got the Speck. I've got 90 days to mull it over. I ended up with two cases that I never used for my last phone (up for sale in the Marketplace!), so I'm trying to avoid doing that again.

As far as the color, I didn't originally intend to end up with two dark blue cases, but that's where the circumstances lead me. My first color choice would have been the Chili Red, but I wanted something more durable than the more delicate Bridge leather, and didn't want Floater Black.

Wish I would have known. The Candyshell cases I got for my XS I got out of the clearance rack at Walmart.

Although the Candy Shells look really nice (IMO!), when I had one on my iPhone 7 back in the day, I found that the grippy textured rimmed parts, ringed here:

, would start to break away from the case from the constant in-ing and out-ing from my jeans pockets.

I'm currently using Spigen's Ultra Hybrid case :

, and although I really like the case and its form factor on my iPhone XS, I absolutely hate the glass back as it is such a fingerprint magnet - everytime I touch it, it just leaves the back smeared with printso_O (I don't actually find my hands that oily or greasy??!).

Was therefore looking at something ALOT thinner and one which doesn't have a glossy back so wouldn't attract fingerprints (perhaps one of them 'skin' cases?).

Any recommendations?

If you want something that has a nice grip and excellent buttons (I might even dare to say better than the SolidSuit), I would highly recommend the Evutec Northill cases. I can't remember if it fits the same as the Spigen Ultra Hybrid, but it certainly feels better in the hands (with the half canvas/half leather back). I have to warn you that the case adds a bit of weight to the phone, though.

That's not an unheard of complaint.

I've had three generations of Grip cases, and they've remained intact, but to be fair, I don't use them as daily drivers, and I only buy them at discount, so I'm not too worried about them.

I discovered a silicone case that some of you will definitely love. It's from OTOFLY. It's slightly thinner than the Apple Silicone Case, but feels just as soft; it even has the felt lining on the inside. The buttons are amazing (as good as the TORRAS) and OTOFLY covers the bottom of the phone. Also, instead of large cut outs for the bottom holes, there are individual holes that line up with the holes from the phone.

What's REALLY annoying about Speck themselves, is that they release LITE versions of their cases when the phones themselves are older. The Presidio Lite for the 8 is amazing and so is the Candyshell Lite. It's all one piece TPU but it can be glossy but it doesn't scratch like polished hardplastic. They're thinner, lighter and provide good protection without them looking worn.

I wish they released their Lite versions along with the bulkier counterparts.

I like it - found it on Amazon and ordered the clear version for my Rose Gold XS Max. Thanks.

I don't want to start a new thread simply for this: could someone please help me find an Apple iPhone Xs Leather Case in Forest Green? Needs to be brand new and preferably retail price. Thank you!

Nope. The Xs case never came in Forest Green. Here are the colors you can get.

OTOH, the 11 Pro case fits fine if you don't mind that the camera cutout is wider. If that's not an issue, the case otherwise fits. I tried both cases on my Xs and 11 Pro when I upgraded last month.

I got the Otofly case but ended up returning it. I was surprised that it was bulkier than my Otterbox Symmetry case - it made the phone too large for my taste and too large for some of my accessories (e.g., leather slip case, DJI Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal).
