Although they keep showing the stainless steel Apple Watch on the left, the Sport in the middle and the Edition on the right, I don't think the stainless steel watch will be the cheapest.
The Sport Apple Watch will probably be the cheapest. It's the lightest and and it doesn't even have a sapphire screen. It has an Ion-X screen, which is probably cheaper.
Whatever is cheapest is what I may get. I'm not sure if I'm getting one. I'll have to give up my unlimited data plan to use it at its fullest.
Indeed.
I suspect, in reality the Steel one SHOULD only cost a little more than the Aluminum version.
Material wise a few dollars, slightly longer cycle time on the CNC being milled out, and polishing, and the material difference for the sapphire screen.
We know from articles we read about the cost of sapphire mobile screens we were looking at a couple or few dollars more than gorilla glass for 1 screen, still only a handfull of dollars though.
Sheer guess, we could be looking at say around 20 dollars more on Apples side for the steel over the aluminium model to make it.
I'd suspect we will be looking at $150 for the customer.
Perhaps $350 for aluminium, $500 for steel, They will want maximum profit, but not to the point where people say, oh sod it, it's exactly the same device, there will be a new one next year anyway, I'll just go with the cheapest.
You want to price it, at a point where people will disregard that, and think, oh well it's not THAT much more for the better one, I'll get the better one.
