Curious what your intentions are. All new phone choices are listed. Or, perhaps you are passing this year.
Going from an iPhone 6S Plus to an XS Max 256gb. Going from Space Gray to Gold. I like the look of the stainless steel in the gold - not sure if the SG would loook as impressive.

I can’t understand why they make the phones always bigger :/

Apple is making phones for the majority that like bigger screens. Back when the iPhone 6 Plus was released that was one of the biggest sales years Apple had with the iPhone and you can bet the biggest seller this year will be the Xs Max. In fact if you go the online store and just look at what is available now, you'll see that the dates on the Max are treading into 2 to 3 weeks where at the Xs is still that first week in Oct. So that tells you that bigger screens are what consumers want.

I too have an iPad Pro, but I spend 90% of my time on my phone... I wanted a bigger screen. Clearly the SE sales had tanked, but that could be because the tech is so old at this point. I think the 5.8 screen is likely the smallest we'll see released going forward. But that is just a guess on my part.

The iPhone XR has a 6.1” screen and it’s a big device. It’s also being sold for £749 so I think that will be the biggest seller out of the newer devices this year for obvious reasons. It’s got a new look too and to the less tech savvy iPhone user this phone will appeal. The fact nearly all the XS and XS Max models are still available for 21st Sept delivery suggests maybe consumers are waiting for the XR.

I am sure there are those that are waiting for the XR, but the fact is that the market is saturated now. There is really no big gotta have updates or changes. Carriers are no longer subsidizing and the fact is that we as consumers aren't rushing out to replace with the latest and greatest each year like previously. I am not sure having stock of certain models really suggest anything at all. It could suggest that Apple finally got productivity where it should have been each year. However, right before release each year you'd would read about them not getting enough yield for the display or one of the sensors. You didn't hear that this time around... In fact all the rumors indicated Apple was ahead of their productivity schedule this year. Speculation pure and simple, but I do believe people aren't buying them in the volume they once did with every new release and that is what we are seeing. XR, XS and XS Max will each sell well. I think you are correct that over the course of the next year the XR maybe the biggest seller, but for this release it's been XS-Max. Since Apple doesn't break down models in their quarterly results, we may never really know.

Oh you are definitely right about people not upgrading as often. From personal experience I’ve noticed friends, family and colleagues keeping iPhones beyond two years and often buying last years model. The owner of carphone warehouse was on the BBC saying upgrades and new purchases through them is down as much as 25% since 2015. A report last month surveyed CPW and the other UK carriers and suggested the iPhone 7, 8 and 6S were the most popular iPhones this last year. Phones have gotten better and I do think price hikes have changed consumer buying patterns.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the fact many people can’t physically afford the X, XS and XS Max, I think it’s more that they don’t feel they need it when their currents phones are doing the job.

Going from a 7+ to a Max 512gb

Same size phone but all screen? Check.

Camera that is WAY better? Check.

More internal storage than I could ever know what to do with (for now)? Check.

And with my trade in with AT&T Next, the price difference per month is negligible. Damn you Apple and phone companies. You figured out a way to sell us phones for $1,200 (more, really...)

Look at the results of this poll!!!

Thats outrageous especially on an Apple nut forum.

Looks like they would have sold more Xs Mini SE's than anything else...

Sigh...

Whatever Apple

Since these things cost a grand+, my current X will work for me perfectly fine for another year or two. Especially since the new phones don’t offer anything that is really new and compelling to me.

Now a new iPad....I would have jumped on that in a New York second. But even now I’m having second thoughts about that too.

I’m sticking with my 7 for another year at least. XR looks gorgeous but simply too big for me, and the 7 is still working too well for me to spend a grand on the Xs

I actually caved. Wife was at the Apple Store on launch date and picked one up for me :)

Camera is amazing and I didn't realize how much I missed having the bigger screen. Other than those two things, I really can't tell the difference in performance. If screen isn't that important to you, you will be fine sticking with the X.

But holy crap I am blown away by how good the camera is.

I already upgrade my S2 AW to a S4. Was originally set on upgrading my X to an XS Max, but after being disappointed with the gold, not so sure anymore. Might be the first time I can remember where I could skip getting a new iPhone.
