Well, first of all, to answer your question, no, I am not upgrading to iPhone 12 series. I am currently using a 4-year-old iPhone 7 Plus bought on launch day September 16, 2016. Although 7 Plus still does not show any signs of slowing down under the latest software (iOS 14.0.1), I have recognized the upgrading is necessary and it will definitely happen in the near future.
So when will I replace my 7 Plus with newer phone? The answer is Fall 2021. I am patiently waiting for next-gen iPhone which may be called iPhone 13, equip with A15 chip, offer 120Hz smooth scrolling experience and provide better 5G performance over current iPhone 12 lineup.
So coming from a 5.5 inch iPhone 7 Plus, which model will I get in next year’s iPhone 13 series? My action of purchasing a Plus model in 2016 has already suggested that I desire huge handset. Therefore, the answer is very clear: the model with the largest screen size available. Because Apple always puts the most advanced technologies and specs in the largest model, I will be guaranteed to get the ultimate flagship experiences which Apple intends to deliver.
So if Apple follows the naming trends starting from 11 Pro Max, next year’s flagship will be called 13 Pro Max. Whatever Apple names the phone, as long as I choose the largest model, I will be fine.
The final question is how much storage will I choose. For me, only speed and performances matter to me on electronics purchasing, so I will just get the lowest storage option of the highest-end device.
In summary, since there will be a 5 year gap between my current iPhone 7 Plus (September 2016) and iPhone 13 Pro Max (presumed name, Fall 2021), this upgrading will be transcendental and overall improvements will be very noticeable from my perspective.
