Any one old enough to remember X-files original run?

I am only 7 episodes or so in but the formula of "monster of the week" does not feel like it held well. I am going to guess pre-internet days people were more to be gullible and believe in the paranormal. I mean how many episodes of weird monsters you are going to show and still expect me to have this face

Am I wrong? Does it get better or something?
I've also started to rewatch the X Files. Just finished season 1. From what I remember seasons 3 to 6 were up there with the best so stick with it.

Also Don’t forget to watch the film between seasons 5 and 6 too. It’s essential as it ties loads of plot strands together.

Ok, so I watched the first episode of house of cards last night on the elliptical. A bit of a slow start if you ask me. But I think I can get into this. Granted it was only one episode.

When I got home I was just perusing some things and found Ted Lasso. I’ve heard a lot about this show so decided to give it a whirl. Gotta admit I’m loving already, only 2 episodes in.

My 2 cents.. House of Cards takes about 5-6 episodes to start getting good. Ted Lasso starts off good and gets great about 3 episodes in.

I finished Season 3 of Better Call Saul the other night, and I think I see BCS the same way I see Breaking Bad. The show gets progressively better, even though I still think overall I like BB better. I loved that we are finally starting to see the Saul Goodman side of Jimmy now, and how Season 3 ended was a shocker.

I also finished my rewatch of Star Trek: Lower Decks last night. Of all the new trek series, I think LD is my favorite, and it did get progressively better as the season went on.

Thats a long way until season 3 starts, about 48 episodes and about 36 hours. Plus how does the film tie the plot together? My understanding that X-Files has a formula where each episode is its on independent story line.

I do not recommend you continue watching that show since Netflix kick out Kevin Spacey-the main character- and basically did a final 9-episode season without him to end the show and call it quits. If you have no problem with half made shows...go ahead.

They half-assed the ending of House of Cards, but it was fantastic television for a few seasons (I think until around season 4) and definitely worth watching until that point. After that, they started stretching out the plot with unnecessary drama, and then the scandal with Spacey happened. The BBC version of the show from the 90s has 3 short seasons and is complete, if you just want to know how the story was supposed to end. There's also the original book the shows were based on.

I much prefer the BBC original too. It seemed much more deliciously wicked.

Didn't Kevin Spacey getting exposed as an international pedophile have some effect on that?

I am a bit addicted to The White Lotus. I don’t know why but I find it fascinating. This week’s episode was the best, loved the cliffhanger. I finished also Kevin can **** himself, which is very original. I like the mix of comedy and drama. I’m just extremely disappointed by the end, I hope we will see a season 2.

I finished also Mare if Easttown, too much drama. It felt like they were all intermarried in this redneck hole.

I feel like you have asked this before. It turns more into an alien conspiracy show as it progresses with the monster of the week falling a bit back but there’s certainly no shortage of audience especially in the US for paranormal and conspiracy shows.

Just started Burn Notice from the beginning. It's kind of light hearted spy stuff with no real thought required.

Season 4 of Wynonna Earp.

I had thought the series ended a couple years ago with season 3. But apparently they came back.

I asked about the show yes, but I didn't ask about how its perceived pre and after the internet and if it doesn't hold since the sense of mystery is gone.

It was a fun show from USA Network's "Blue Sky" era. White Collar was similar, with an art thief instead of a spy.

But both eventually got repetitive.

I watched it when it first aired, and almost every single episode in the original run.

My wife and I rewatched it up to season 9 recently.

One thing that I noticed watching it a second time that I missed or forgotten about the first time is how bitchy and possessive Scully can be. Also, I remembered really disliking Monica Reyes the first time watching, but rewatching it, I really liked her character.

I am only 7 episodes or so in but the formula of "monster of the week" does not feel like it held well.
Am I wrong? Does it get better or something?

The "monster of the week" is only the first season, as starting a few episode into season two, it becomes a lot more serialized with a mix of mythology episodes and monster of the week ones.

While compared to today's TV shows, the production of The X-files may not seem that impressive, but for the time, The X-files was one of the first or maybe the first widely successfully TV shows, to have a movie like production for every episode.

The creator wanted originally wanted the "monster of the week" style, making a mini movie per episode, but due to a life changing event of one of the main actors at the end of season 1, the show had to have a major shift with the format starting with season two.

Basically, that led to a lot more serialized episodes.

My understanding that X-Files has a formula where each episode is its on independent story line.
Originally, that was the creator's plan, but it changed with season 2.

Give it to episode 5 and 6 of the 2nd season. If it doesn't interest you by then, than maybe the show isn't for you.

"Held well" compared to what?

While I think the production of TV shows are a lot better than they used to be, there is so much crap out there now with the same predictable cliche storylines and overused plots.

Originality is pretty much gone now, and that was one think that I think The X-Files had.

Do you remember if the sense of mystery was bigger then? The internet kind of killed any mystery factor. Back before the internet you couldn't even find celebrities real names, today you know which school their children got to.

Actually I can totally see that. I remember popular sitcoms no where near this production, not even the more film like shows like Dr. Quinn and Xena warrior. Production wise I think its very solid even for today, I would be excited to see this now.

Actually I rather prefer a serial show, but I also completely understand why they make each episode its own storyline for people can tune in any time without having to know what happened previously. In the past it was very very difficult to get your hands on previous episodes. I do remember. If I was working on it I would have gone their own path, but "monster of the week" will get boring 24 episodes = 24 monsters... the excitement will wither. Need to mix it up a bit. My opinion though.

Held well compared to its time. Some tv material works for its time, after that it just does not click with the viewers due to difference in culture. X-Files might be exciting due to its mystery but that was before the internet, today you can double check every story. Don't laugh at me but for example I kind of believed in Area51 and the alien stuff. Now you can go to Wikipedia and read all about the facts. Another example of this is hand drawn animation, it was all the rage for the kids but kids today prefer 3D animation like Frozen and for some reason do not like stuff like Looney Tunes and The Little Mermaid. Disney's The Princess and the Frog didn't make near as profit as the 3D stuff I hear.

As for originality, I think there is a lot of good shows still in recent times. BB, Mad Men, GoT, there is a nice list.
