The Orville

I was not sure what to expect... When I first heard about it I thought it was going to be a Star Trek spoof. Now in Season 3, and have been quite impressed with it. As some kind of Star Trek fan, I must admit I like it more than Discovery and find it on par with Strange New Worlds.

Sadly, it my be the last season of Orville. I love SNW and Lower Decks. Can't wait for the crossover episode and see live versions of Mariner and Boimler.

What! Really why do you think that? I didn't get that impression, and this last season was great some really compelling stories and writing.

Fox (where seasons 1 and 2 originally aired) didn't pick it up, Hulu picked up season 3 after a long covid delay. But Hulu has not said it is coming back and even Seth McFarlane doesn't know. The season 3 finale had series finale vibes, with a happy ending and no cliffhanger.

I hope it comes back, but I doubt it. Kind of like Star Trek Enterprise. The first 3 seasons were hit and miss, but season 4 - it's last - was great.

Finished The Midnight Club yesterday night. Absolutely brilliant. There isn't a single slow or boring episode, it's really well paced. Cinematography is awesome, music, the characters, everything is spot on. As usual with Flanagan shows, it's not what one expects but it's pleasantly surprising and even better than expected, but in a different way.

I finished Cobra Kai season 5 a while ago and while it's good, it's getting very repetitive. Always some kids fighting each other, changing loyalties as the main plot and a little of the old storyline mixed in. To my surprise it wasn't the last season, so now we're getting another one with mostly the same old stuff. Curious if they'll bring on Michael Ironside, a bunch of military kids as the bad guys and Hillary Swank to save the day.

Dahmer, I couldn't finish it, the guy was seriously f-d up it was sickening. I just felt watching it somehow elevated or gave some credit to this person who didn't deserve it.
I think having this attitude does a great disservice to his victims and the families of his victims. The show is about the negative impact his crimes had on the people around him. His father (Richard Jenkins) struggled emotionally and mentally with his perceived culpability in Dahmer's crimes. The families of the victims had their concerns ignored by the judicial system. The show makes it clear in no uncertain terms that Dahmer's victims had lives of their own, people who mourned their loss, hopes and dreams. To say that this show is elevating Dahmer is like saying that we should forget about the lives he ruined and sweep them under the rug.

Anyone who thinks this show is somehow glorifying Dahmer is sick in the head. I don't know how any person in their right mind can watch the things he did and think that the producers of the show are somehow saying what he did was right. It's pretty clear the severity of his crimes has been depicted so that viewers have a better understanding of the horrors his victims were subjected to.

Currently watching the Netflix original series Drive to Survive.

Just finished Stargate Universe, for the umpteenth time...

Still pisses me off how MGM struck the SGU sets before a proposed made-for-cable movie could be shot, giving the series some much needed closure...

If Amazon doesn't wrap up the dangling threads, Imma have to head over and have a little chat with Bezos...! ;^p

I'm glad to hear that about The Midnight Club - it's on my watch list but haven't had the urge to start it yet. Maybe I'll do that tonight.

I enjoy Cobra Kai but I've always thought it to be on the ridiculous side. A big karate fight in a school involving a couple of dozen kids isn't believable in the slightest. I eagerly await the next season though. It's definitely a guilty pleasure.

Yeah it's very rinse repeat, I have no idea how they got 5 season out of doing that, but some how it's still good. Maybe because I am an 80's kid

I don’t know him, personally. I like shots in the first episode, especially where the camera is closed to the main character while he walks at work. The scene with the exam is also well shot. It feels like a documentary but still it has a lot of dynamic. I think his specialty is to transcript realism. I’ll check his other work, but maybe you have some suggestions ?

I don't know him personally either, but I am familiar with his work. If you enjoyed Tokyo Vice, I would also recommend Miami Vice (2006). And my personal favorite movie of his is Collateral, with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.

I have never seen the first 15 or so seasons of Top Chef so watching all that on Hayu
