Currently catching 2021’s “The Equalizer” with Queen Latifah and Lorraine Toussaint. This is a reboot of the 1985-1989 series with Edward Woodard which I fondly recall. Both are about a vigilante who get results with far less mayhem than say Charles Bronson’s “Death Wish,” always an interesting and viscerally enjoyable premise.

Having found the 2021 series and enjoyed it, we went back to the original, and found it far more forced than the new version.

I do binge watch a lot of series, but select episodes (like I used to in the old VCR days), but not in chronological order from start to finish, but that's going to change.

I recently acquired the 24 series and went through the whole thing in less than ten days!
I had never heard of the series prior to buying it (yes, I'm shamed).
Started watching Season 1 again a couple of months later, but had to force myself to stop.
Live Another Day was my least favorite season, but really like all the others.

I guess the first TV series I binged on from start to finish in a short time was Men Of A Certain Age, about six months ago.
Not a great show by any means, but I do like Romano.

Not a TV series, but prior to that, I did binge on the Rocky franchise all the way through Rocky Balboa in one day.
What I did was edit the ending that gets repeated in the following movie and start the next movie from that point onward, so there are no breaks in action, and of course no ending credits, except after Balboa, so it's one long movie.

I edit the beginnings (teasers and theme songs) and ending credits from any series I can (thanks iTunes).
If I were to to binge on lets say The Mary Tyler Moore Show or I Love Lucy, it kinda gets monotonous (for me) to hear the opening and closing themes time after time for three-five hours in a row, plus, it works out really well especially for ILL because it's like one long episode, even shuffled, 'cause their short outro cue music doesn't have any half-credits over it before the actual closing theme credits, which makes them blend seamlessly into each other!
Though The King Of Queens has a great theme song, I'm 75...I'm well aware that my eyes are getting weary(-er) and my back is getting (even) tight(er)!!!
An added plus is with the edited beginnings and endings...I might be able to sneak in another episode or two in the same amount of time.

Due to my editing practices, I'm expecting to start ducking tomatoes not long after I post this....

We have started on Patience, about a young autistic woman working for the Police in England, based on a French show.

Well worth a watch.

There are two sets of comments about the performance.
The first, from people 'who know about autism', saying that the performance is unrealistic.
The second, from people who are autistic, saying that the performance is spot on.
I think I know whose opinion I will follow...

American Primeval here. I was hooked pretty much the entire time. Going to rewatch the 2015 movie 'The Revenant' over the weekend because it shares the overall vibe and setting then I'll do a second round of this series. Pretty rare for me.

First episode is just so brutal...

Also so very bleak throughout. Warm blanket and glass of whiskey required for watching. I'm not normally into in-your-face violence but this is hitting just the spot for the darkest, coldest parts of winter.

Spent some time googling the historical background.

How accurate were they?

I've read quite about about the old west and from what I recall it was a very brutal place, that said I'm not so sure there isn't always a bit of exaggeration and over the topness from Hollywood.

Have you checked out Dexter: Original Sin? It's a new Dexter that's only 6 episodes into S1. A new Dexter coming in June of this year too, Dexter: Resurrection. I am a Dexter alcoholic and loved the original and all the sequels!!!

I'd like to see it, but can't bring myself to subscribe to Showtime.

Finished this on Friday, before I'm back to the Librarians.

Mixed feelings. It feels a little like Goonies in space, but I didn't care much about any of the characters. The whole story is a little pointless. Since it's a limited series, I'm not expecting season 2. For what it is, it was too long, could have been shorter (or release all episodes at once and not week by week). At least with the Acolyte I could see where they're going in the end. I think this is worse, but it's Star Wars for really young kids and that's where it probably works best, for the audience younger than 10.

Pretty much about as accurate as Last Of The Mohicans I'd say. Context, the timeline and some historical figures were used to flesh out setting and the overall story but better don't compare any of the finer details.

So it's just good entertainment (if you can stomach the violence), not trying to double up as a documentary.

I enjoyed it too... The Mormon angle was interesting having prompted me (like you) to look up the background.I suspect Brigham Young's Wiki page is now getting a lot of hits!

Or some wild wikipedia edits... ;)

I found it interesting that there's a crossover with The Revenant in the character of Jim Bridger.

I wonder if there's anything similar that covers Custer and the campaign that culminated in the Little Bighorn Battle? Modern Western like this, not something with a vibe of 1960's films.

Ha, I missed the Revenant linkage. (Enjoyed that film as well, saw it at the cinema.) The Church of the Latter Day Saints are the Mormons aren't they?

I'm not that big on US 'Western period' history but it is interesting the more you look into it...

I think so (I'm from Europe, I only know Mormons as young guys in suits with nameplates waving at me from across the street).

I find the Western period more interesting the further you go back in time. Revenant for example is 1820's. Mohicans 1750's. If you look up the history of how America was settled there's plenty they could do with the 1600's and 1700's. Although that may qualify more as Easterns. ;)

New Tricks
Watching on BritBox. Eleven seasons. It’s about 3 older, retired police detectives re-hired and paired with a female superior to solve cold case/odd crimes. Excellent show, fun, good characters. It’s not a thriller or a comedy but has elements of both. It’s a hoot!
