Just finished "The Missing" Season 2. Well that went all over the place and then some in regards to the storyline. Excellent viewing!

The Magicians Season 1 on Netflix.

The superb Western mini-series Lonesome Dove starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones.

An great Pulitzer Prize winning story.

An excellent series, I have it on DVD.

The first version (VHS) and second versions (DVD) as I recall had poor video quality especially VHS which was horrid. It was if they were trying to stuff too much into too little space. Maybe I'll invest in the Blu Ray version.

I just finished "Westworld" and didn't like it as much as I'd hoped to. The ending was pretty great, though, and it had a lot going for it, including:
We just started this series, we are on episode 4. Definitely has not been great so far, Everyone keeps telling us to finish it.

Watching season 2 of the 'Legend'.

I just finished both season 1 and 2 of Legend, what a wonderfully done show.

It is a shame it was cancelled.

So many crappy shows, with cookie-cutter plots stick around, season after season (almost any procedural cop drama), and so many original, smart, well acted shows get cancelled too soon.

I also binged Limitless recently, another show that I liked that was cancelled.

Maybe I am the odd one though, because you look at Netflix's rating for Legend and Limitless which are average3-4 star, and compare to the really crappy Netflix original Sense8 which has a 5 star, maybe it is me that is different.

I don't know what issues you have with it, but I found myself constantly let down by how little we actually knew about the hosts. We weren't given a three-laws-of-robotics-esque set of parameters, so there were many instances when a host would do something potentially subversive, and I'd think, "Wow, if I knew what these things were supposed to do, that might've been really cool…"

Didn't Isaac Asimov dream up the laws of robotics? In which case, there are no rules that say other writers have to abide by them and hence, they can have the creations in their mind do whatever it is they want.

Yes, that's why I said "We weren't given a three-laws-of-robotics-esque set of parameters" to imply that these parameters would be similar but not identical.

I'm not saying any writer would have to adhere to any preexisting sci-fi constructs, but I found it boring to watch a bunch of hosts do whatever without knowing whether or not it was expected behavior. Part of the fun of reading Asimov's work was realizing that robots' misbehaviors were actually programmatically justified.

To put it another way, it's like watching a superhero movie where their powers are inconsistent and ill-defined.

I think that's the hook. You never know what their capabilities are and their limitations. The viewer is left to figure it out and be surprised, if at all possible.

The thing did not like the most was that the next series will not be up until 2018 :(

We've run out of new movies to watch, so we've been binging on all of our TV series we bought and ripped. Oh my gosh, I hadn't realized how many DVDs we bought lol.
RIght now we're on Blue Bloods season 3, starting Falling Skies again, and are in the middle of The Invaders. And Unforgettable. Just finished Humans season 1. We've got 4 series going lol

Agreed. It's just not my kind of hook.

Well, until then, have this scene in which Jimmi Simpson (William/Billy) plays the spokesperson in an honest Coke ad:

No, you are not alone. Some others that come to mind are:

Rubicon
Lie to Me
Alphas
The Bridge
The Newsroom

Well, to be fair, Lie to Me got at least a few seasons, as did Newsroom (not that I wouldn't mind having more of those).

If you're looking for another great Sorkin series that got cancelled too soon, I'd highly recommend "Studio 60." It's a lot like "The Newsroom" in that it deals with characters trying to upload ideals in television, except it's set on a sketch comedy studio—think "Saturday Night Live" with more long walking/talking scenes.

It's also partially autobiographical. The two main characters are like proxies for Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle.

I've binged through all of The West Wing recently after putting off doing it for some time given the large number of episodes, and it certainly got me into a Sorkin mood. Been trying to see where I can catch all of Sports Night and Studio 60.

Holy ****, I think all of "Studio 60" is on YouTube. What the…

Also, within the first few minutes, there's a network exec played by a person who would later be cast in Sorkin's "Steve Jobs" as Andy Hertzfeld. That seems like appropriate trivia given this forum's main focus.
