Just started watching "The First" on Hulu. Sean Penn and a few other good actors. The first Mars mission is the basis for the story. It's more about the characters and their lives than the mission, but a good drama overall.

Watching "King of Queens." Got the series Blu-ray set from eBay. The picture and sound (DTS) is great. You need a region-free Blu-ray player to play the discs here in the U.S. Default language is German but also comes with English and Swedish.

One of my favorite series. :)

Currently through 3 EPs of Castle Rock, very good so far (very well reviewed, so not surprised), it takes place in the Stephen King universe, but not a specific story of his - just uses characters, places, references, concepts, with a brand new narrative.

Castle Rock on hulu. Its good and I'm hooked, only three and half episodes in.

Holy smokes, it's fantastic, finished through EP5 (from 3 in my self-quoted post). It just gets better and better.

It would be good even without taking place in the "King-verse", Sissy Spacek and Scott Glenn are masterful, it's spooky, nuanced, beautifully shot - but with the King stuff in place, it gives you this weird connection to the material (and I'm not even a huge King reader, but have enough exposure through film to pick up on many of the references).

EP4 will leave you ******** bricks ...

Just finished ep4. Very nicely done. Do you know if this is a limited series or will there be more seasons?

Holy crap. Netflix’s Maniac is fantastic. It’s so bingable I’m angry I have to go to sleep. I want to watch them all. Don’t read reviews or the blurbs about the episodes. It’s good to know too much about it. Tripy and twisty and nicely acted directed and written.

Just finished season 1 of “The Sinner” on Netflix.
Disturbing story and well written. Twisted characters, great acting with Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman.

Limited series though, right?

It was renewed for a second season (almost immediately after it starting airing, been very successful), but the idea is each season will be a [semi] self contained story, same universe, maybe even a little story/plot/character overlap from previous season(s) for a touch of cohesiveness, but absolutely not required viewing.

... which is not unlike The Sinner, which is also terrific, i.e., self-contained season arcs, with a key character as the continuity (Pullman).

The Sinner is more toward a grounded reality / psychological thriller/horror, with Castle Rock pushing into the paranormal/scifi (though always with strong implication not showing it outright).

From the trailer, it looked like something Michel Gondry would produce. How does it compare to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?

Wow, EP 7 of Castle Rock, "The Queen", I can be a bit of a hard ass, but good grief, this one really got to me and the wife, it's beautiful - and the easily one of best of the year, any show, any genre, any network - hour of television.

Funny I never even thought of that comparison. But yeah it kind of has a similar theme of memories and how they can affect us. I don’t remember liking eternal for some reason so I would have to say this is better.

Great. Thanks for the spoiler free review. When I’m don’t with maniac, I’ll go back to my hopefully one day one episode viewing.

I feel compelled to report my bad... that I am unable to appreciate the following shows:
-Amazon Primes The Expanse //sesson 01 was functional but just cant watch season 2
-Netflix’s Maniac is so bad like monochrome static
-American Horror Story is well the characters dont move fast a slow story line

of the three The Expanse is the best but slim pickings

I thought Maniac was really good for the first few episodes. It slowed for me during 6,7&8. Hopefully I will enjoy the final two after work tonight. Then I can get back to Castle Rock!

I found that The Expanse gets better after season 1 which was somewhat slow and a bit "out there" (more so than the other seasons basically).

Haven't tried Maniac yet, but from the previews I sort of get what it's like.

American Horror Story is basically different each season, so it's hard to really make a call.

Ugh. Last three episodes I watched of Maniac weren’t good at all. I have one more to go. Hopefully it will end on a good episode.

Just started the second season of The Expanse.

We really enjoyed the whole series. Yeah, there were parts that moved slowly, at times, but it was a brilliant adaption of a great science fiction series, overall. I loved season 3 and am exceedingly glad they picked it up at Amazon. Nice thing about that is that they will be able to do a lot more with the characters and not have to worry about censors, so much.

Stumbled across one of the most bizarre shows on Netflix: Toast of London

Watching this show is almost surreal. It stars Matt Berry as a middle-aged actor living in London, with the improbable name of Stephen Toast. It features cameos from a variety of quite well-known actors, including Jude Law and John Hamm. The guy who played Bricktop on Snatch. The woman who played Elizabeth Warleggan on Poldark. Lady Edith Crawley's sad-sack boyfriend is Toast's friend and landlord. And many more.

The show was broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK.

The thing is, I'm not quite sure of the appeal of this show to an American audience. Many of the jokes relate to obscure elements of British theatrical life, accents, etc. Oh, and each episode features a short interlude where Toast and the other characters break into cheesy Andrew Lloyd-Weber-esque musical numbers. Speaking of which, West End singer Michael Ball has a short role - as himself - working a side job as a debt collector for Lord Weber. Bizarre indeed.

I'm not sure if I'd term it hate-watching. I'm strangely fond of the characters. And it is funny. If your sense of humor runs that way.
