It's not a "watch"; it's a wearable computer. I have a beautiful GMT Master but it can't do anything except tell time.

There is a world of difference!!

You are correct…… but that probably makes it even less likely for me to consider an iWatch, with the associated trauma of choosing a band. I prefer a life less complicated!

Heck, I don't even like to bother with choosing clothes. I have a tailor make up a set half a dozen of work shirts (all white) and a couple of trousers (beige) every few years, and leave it up to him to decide the style. The only proviso is that they are comfortable. Dressing is just a matter of selecting the next item in the closet….. sweet simplicity.

Most of my other clothes are either gifts, or handouts for being involved in some event or another.

The only computer I own is a Mac Mini (with a wireless Internet connection), and I seldom carry a mobile phone…. My $25 Nokia, but usually remains in my apartment, which doesn't have a phone line (hence the mobile phone). It is good to leave my desk and be off-line, without a mobile device of any description……

Though I'll concede with a more itinerant phase in my life possible soon, I may consider going over to a MacBook Air.

The last wristwatch I owned was a Citizen Ana-digi, back in the early '80s. It had a number of useful functions, but just outside its six month warranty it got water in it, despite supposedly being waterproof to 100 metres. It cost a lot to get repaired, but it to no avail. I realised then that my lifestyle is not conducive to wearing a watch, or baubles of any kind.

unfortunately, they don't have the color combination I'm looking for.

I just hope they offer more color combinations when the watch is released.

Haven't decided on the band yet, but it isn't like they're terribly different.

are you guys missing any design/ type of band since Apples offering is limited?

I think Apple should have came out with some more innovative designs, maybe something like self-closing bands (just as the new nike shoe) that adjusts itself automatically to the wrist

Guess I would go for milanese as well!

Black plastic or rubber, whatever it is. If I get it its going to be my active watch not my dress watch.

This.

Plus AWatch magical apps and functions (an iPhone/iMac/iPod/iPad cannot do) that will blow our minds aka we thought we do not need but later on we cannot live without aka patended marvelous iStuffs TM which will then be inevitably copied by others.

My top pick is the Milanese Loop. It's the only one that immediately stood out to me as being classy, comfortable, and stylish. I don't care for leather bands, and I don't care for the link bracelets on my current non-smart watches (one was passed down from my grandfather, the other is a cheap watch I bought just to get used to wearing a watch regularly again).

Barring that, I would go with the black fluoroelastomer band to start with, a green flouroelastomer band if they can be purchased separately (just for kicks), and MAYBE the brown leather modern buckle band.

But the one I really, really want is that Milanese Loop. Which I fully expect to be very, very expensive relative to the other bands.

I was bored so I’ve been working on a design for a wristband of the new watch since I don’t really like the ones apple is offering. What do you guys think?

Lets all stop kidding each other and ourselves. We're totally going to end up with a pile of bands on our desks. ;)

I plan on buying a sport band and something dress-y that I can quickly change-out depending on the activity of the day.

I'm not gonna lie, I'll probably have five or six. The leather magnet, milinese loop, sport band, and one or two more. Like having five different watches if you change the faces to.

I've been looking at the various versions and at the moment i'm torn between the :apple: Watch Stainless Steel version and the :apple: Watch Sport, any guesses on which one will be more durable?

What is it, everyone likes about the Milanese Loop? I really don't get it.

As a poster said in post #88 above, it looks classy, comfortable and stylish. It's also a watch band design we haven't seen before. I've never liked metal bands for watches, but the Milanese Loop looks like it could combine the best parts of metal (durable, sleek) with the best parts of leather (flexible, light). So I'm interested in it, even though I wouldn't buy it until after I've tried it.

Think about it this way............

This is Apple Watch version 1.

You know how Apple updates all it other products.

How long do you think you will wish to keep this 1st watch?

Base your decision on how long you feel you will going to keep it.
If you are going to keep it years and watch it go out of date then pay more and get the Steel one.
If you simply want to enjoy the exact same experience as everyone else, but will want the next improved model as soon as it becomes available, then you may as well get the cheapest model, unless you really hate the look of the finish of Aluminium.

If you like the look of Aluminium and will want to update to any new models as soon as you can, seeing as all watches are the same inside then get the one you feel offers best value.

Good advice. But price aside, does steel really last many years longer than aluminum? You imply that the steel will last for years. How long do you think the aluminum will last?

You are correct :)

What I actually means was that, the Steel version being harder, would be less prone to wear and tear damage than the aluminium one.
So last longer looking like new.

Or course, this 100% depends on you and how you treat items you possess, some people take loving care of their items others are just animals.

A guy I work with bought his wife an iPhone5. The one with the shiny 45 degree angle around the edge that would take a dink almost by breathing onto it, I actually looked at the phone that came from Apple brand new, and inspected it close up, and right out the box, there was a dink in this area, which I know was pretty common due to the design of the product.

He gave her the watch, and she just threw it into her handbag together with car keys and general junk. Probably more damaged by her after 1 day than I would damage it after 5 years.

That's just how some people are.

So, going back to my point, yes, if you wanted an Apple watch to look like new for longer, and you were going to just wear it normally and not take TOO MUCH care over it, then I'd suggest the steel model being harder may take less damage than Aluminium.

But all depends how you look after things as I say.

I tend to upgrade on a 2 year basis, but this depends on the item, for example my Macbook Pro I've had since 2011 and still works great (however i've been considering upgrading) but my iPhone's i tend to upgrade every 2 years, my iPad I've just updated to the Air 2 from the iPad 3. I usually do this because i like to run the latest OS.

if the Apple Watch can last 2 years and i can change out the straps and bands (Sport band for the gym, and other bands for university/work and social events)
then i would keep it around 2 years, unless version 2 has anything major updates. I'm also someone who looks after my devices, my iPhone's have never had so much as a scratch on them, the same for my Macbook and iPad.

Apple products are usually built to last, so if this is the case with the Apple Watch then i would upgrade every 2 years.

It's very hard to see the future unless you are part of the team working on what you are planning (Inside Apple)

When iPad1 launched, who would of suspected how much the body of the product would be dramatically changed just 1 months later. We never saw that coming. Sure we thought it may be improved a bit, but not a from scratch physical re-design 12 months later.

So here we are looking at Apple watch 1, and people are saying. Noooo, Apple won't change it much if at all in 12 months time.
Well how do we know.

There could be 2 new versions on the drawling board right now.
And Apple could wait a few months into the Watch v1 sales before deciding which of the two new designs they are going with.

They may go with the lets tweak it a tiny bit inside option, or they may go for a radical overhaul option.

They may have 4 other cosmetically/shape different versions on the drawing board.

It could all be hanging on the 1st 3 to 6 months sales, and it they feel it's selling like a storm and going to take over the world, or it's a bit of a flop and sales are way under expectations and they pull back plans a bit.

No one here knows (well unless there are Apple employees reading this site!)

All you can do it buy what you want NOW, for the price you are willing to pay, and just see what happens.

I'd certainly make no long term investment plans on buying the Apple watch version one on day one, of a future we have no idea about.

Just buy what makes you happy today :)
