I was objecting to the proposition that men are concerned with performance while women only want something that looks pretty.

I think women are VERY concerned with performance - that's why I work out ;)

Aligning colors to a specific role has been around since humanity stopped being color blind. Admittedly, it should stop, but it is propagated by fashion, media and the school yard. This issue may even be retarding our evolution as a species. Other animals are way ahead of us regarding this. Just look at birds, for example. All the males are colorful while the females are monochromatic.

I think its fine for guys. Plus I see lots of guys with them. However, if it was me, I'd get the black. I've seen how dirty the white ones get.

I got one this summer, and now I'm really wishing I ponyed up the extra money for a black or MBP. The white doesn't really match my decor of mostly silver or black electronics. Ugh. 2 of my sisters got white macbooks too. I'm starting to think the white macbook appeals more to women.

I have a black Tucano second skin and I'm probably going to get a black iSkin keyboard cover to make it a little more manly.

OMHO, i don't really like the black MacBook. Looks like ordinary notebook. And it really leave a lot of fingerprint on the surface of the notebook. Look 'dirty' to me... Even though u need extra care on a white notebook. Or else, it'll get dirty o black easily. I took care of mine, and I'm proud of it. Still look nice, but with some minor scratches... :D

Also, I'm from Malaysia and the price difference between the 2.16GHz white and 2.16GHz black is RM700 (around USD200). USD200 for an extra of 40GB of hard disk and black colour is way too much. Can easily get a much bigger external hard disk with a much lower price, if i need extra storage. :)

Uh I have a white iPod 4th generation (color) and I like the design, I don't think it is not based on gender, trust me.

Personally I prefer the aluminum casing of the MBP :)

I find the white color very clean looking. I have seen just as much women sporting the white Macbooks to the black ones. Put some stickers on your machine if you feel insecure.

It's like buying mismatched furniture or an art piece that doesn't really go with a room, I'm trying to put together a well thought design for my loft. I didn't have the cash to buy everything at once so I put it together piece by piece. I was waiting to buy a MBP but with the price on the white 2.16 superdrive being $300 cheaper than retail plus the edu nano for free, I just went with it. I'd needed an Intel mac so that I can run windows so I could just leave both of my Dells at my office.

I'm getting a new glass desk that looks modern, my office area is going to look pretty nice, I'll use my PB in the meantime while I wait for a new macbook or mbp, and I'm going to use the white macbook in the kitchen since its mostly white. What's wrong with have a good designed pad. I'd like to come home to place that's pleasing to the eye and smile and know that I decorated my own place with style. Plus, heck man it should help with the ladies :p

Nothing wrong with white, it's just that in my family, my sisters have white macbooks, so when I go home on holidays we're sporting white laptops. lol. btw, I'm the only boy in my family, and the oldest too, I have 4 sisters.

Besides, white is no longer in style, haven't you noticed that Apple is getting away from that? haha.

Just want to add that a lot of people DO care about appearance. I mean, you don't wear white socks with sandals? You wouldn't want a potential date to see your messy desk? I did see a design where for a bedroom, it was very clean, white sheets, white walls, a lot of white, for peacefulness, and in the corner, a white desk with a white macbook. Very nice.

I think of white as a blank color. Having nothing attached to it. It's empty so you can apply whatever you want to it. Like a blank sheet of paper. Clean.

My MB also matches my room very well. But not in a gay way. Of course.

Except that white will go with just about anything else -- PARTICULARLY in rooms with little white in them -- and this leads me to believe you're not such an inherently good interior decorator as you seem to believe. An all-white room with a white MacBook sounds awful. How about dark reds, dark chocolate stained woods of very ornate, antique furniture, with the elegant pop of white adorning the desk? The "all-white" look for an entire room is sort of a cop-out.

To use your MacBook in the kitchen simply because it's white is absurd, by the way. You sound like your idea of fashionable is very matchy-matchy. It doesn't work in clothing and it doesn't work in interior decorating.

You say you worry about white being a primarily effeminate colour, but then you speak of all this concern for interior decorating which is arguably a far more effeminate quality -- though not at all a bad one.

Stop worrying; white is a neutral (duh) and goes with anything and any gender. You're being silly about this.

PS: Glass desks suck. :( Get a nice wooden one. There was a post in the setups thread where someone had a piece of glass on top of their wooden desk. It looked really nice.

funny thread.

i have thought about this in the past. first owned a whitebook and now a blackbook. at the time i thought white was girly but now think both are girly.

its mainly due to the size. friging pussssy IMO. however. i still love my MB and my blackbook will suffice until MBP next year :)

you can just ghetto paint it, to make you look rugged, but a fkn drongo too

Please stop making me hate my own gender. :(

I find the fact that you worry if your laptop matches your decour to be more telling then whether your Macbook is black or white.

The true moral of this post is that NEITHER of these concerns has anything to do with gender! I am amazed at the ignorance in this thread.

I would agree that a white macbook with a cherry wood desk would be elegant, but when you pair it with a Dell monitor, black/silver speakers, it's out of place. I tend to stick to 2 primary colors, and have different shades of those colors. If I had gotten a cinema display with an Apple keyboard, it'll look good (aluminum/white). It's the same reason why I'm waiting for Nintendo to come out with a black Wii. If I stick a white wii into my entertainment system setup, it'll be the first thing your eyes will see.

That black iSkin keyboard cover would make it look nice, gives it better contrast that just an all-white laptop. I just ordered one on Amazon.

I recommend this instead:

White is kinda gay. Haha, jk. I opted for a MBP but I'd have preferred a white MB if I were to have gotten one. Classy!

White is Apple's trademark color, that's like saying Apple products are for girls. I think you are just embarrassed by the color for some reason. Maybe you should get a Dell dude?

You're worried about your white MacBook being too girly ... while complaining that it doesn't match your decor and going so far as to make it as black as possible to match said decor.

Irony, anyone?

mignt not be irony at all.

The substantive content of this forums falls so fast that soon we will see posts like:

'...I am gay - is it ok to use a macbook?...'
or
'...Which nail polish to buy so it matches by macbook...'

Thank goodness I'm comfortable enough with my masculinity to use any color computer I want...

same here...don't really get the point why a white Macbook is supposed to be more girly than the black one....oh well....

I don't think you're getting the point. I said "I'm starting to think that the white macbook appeals more to women" - in reference to the fact that my sisters have them. Even though I should held out for a MBP, but the price on the white macbook was a good deal for me ($1099 superdrive + free ipod nano). Good to know there are guys who like the white macbook though. I was never worried about it being "girly". Most of my guy friends who have Apple have the MBP and all my girl friends have the white macbook, so I was questioning whether or not its a boy/girl stereotype. Your post doesn't really add much to the conversation, rather it just seems to question my sexuality. It's the millennium man, straight guys can decorate now too. No sense in arguing with you though, I really don't understand why people post negative things on a forum.

I think Macs appeal more to women than men in general because women are more creative, intelligent, and open-minded (in my opinion, and I am aware that there are plenty of men who fit this description ... hopefully myself!). I think that has more to do with this.

Or hell, maybe your sisters just don't want to pay extra for a color?
