Hey, Quiara - no need to feel that way. It's much more a combo of men who can't write clearly and you reading into it the attitudes you're on the lookout for.

In this particular quote, he didn't intend to compare men and women. He was comparing men to men - mentioning what he believed to be the reason most male Mac users like Macs.

In the earlier part that bothered you, I believe the authors meant to say that a larger percentage of women weigh aesthetics more heavily than do men when it comes to purchasing computers. I don't believe they meant to say that most women (or any at all) purchase mainly based on aesthetics.

It's very easy to read negativity into vague posts. In this very thread, I know there were times when I wanted to smack people who automatically changed the original poster's "manly" to "straight", as if the two have some kind of correlation.

;)

Take care. We love you - and all our Mac gals.

(BTW - Pismos are the most manly Mac laptops of them all.)

I was being facetious, but I love you anyway. ^_~

Oops

I was being facetious, but I love you anyway. ^_~

Oops. I'm a little slow. Just want to make sure all Mac users feel loved. After all, that's what Steve would want.

I suppose I should weigh in on the white laptop issue. I went straight from a Pismo to an MBP (that my work chose for me), but I've seen lots of guys with the white ones. I think it just draws your eye to the guy - then it's all about him. The 'book doesn't really add or detract, but it does get you that initial attention. Just my thought. (Now I wish I had one.)

I love the MBP for its body and its mind. ^_~ I just didn't need all the extras that come with the shiny exterior. My MacBook (white - I felt no need to pay the "BlackTax") is fabulous for what I do. And isn't that what it's all about? Loving the tools you have to do the things you love - and even the things you don't quite like, but hate less since the machine is so awesome? ^_~

I've seen tons of people across the board with all manner of machines. I've seen kids I'd assume aren't doing anything more than some Gnutella and term papers sitting pretty with MacPro running a zillion-core processors at eleventy-billion GHz and then there are serious musicians making it work on the very first PowerBook. Crazy.

I was fluffing my mildly ruffly feathers over something else entirely when I quipped about the Man-power. I <3 my y-chromosome enabled brethren just as much as my XX'ers. One big happy family under our dear Uncle Steve. ^_^

The day my MacBook defines me as anything other than a Mac user is the day I will take up life on the former planet, Pluto. ^_^

I think we just need to firmly establish that colour and design are all matters of personal desires. No colours - even pink or purple - are inherently ONLY for a single gender, and to think so is ridiculous.

Just do what you like, guys (and girls)!

While everyone is free to choose whatever color they wish, certain colors can defy social norms, and hence be awkward. For example, when was the last time you saw a guy with a pink Razr? And how many girls have a pink Razr? Colors do matter for certain things; BUT NOT MACBOOKS. White is fairly gender-neutral, so I see no reason for the OP to feel weird with one. Personal taste is an entirely different case (because I find the black to be better looking).

I am just trying to justify that I bought a pink case. :)

... perhaps not that particular color, though...

I got one this summer, and now I'm really wishing I ponyed up the extra money for a black or MBP. The white doesn't really match my decor of mostly silver or black electronics. Ugh. 2 of my sisters got white macbooks too. I'm starting to think the white macbook appeals more to women.

I have a black Tucano second skin and I'm probably going to get a black iSkin keyboard cover to make it a little more manly.

Boy, you should go to a paint shop. Then brush your MB pink or maybe red. That's customisation :)

Hmm I would say yes white ones are more for women. Are you a puss* then? :D

White is cool

I have had two iBooks, both white.and twp PowerBooks, both aluminum. A buddy of mine took the case off his iBook and used acetone to remove the coating, the result was a CLEAR iBook!!
I bought a BlackBook because I liked the way it looked. My son has a white MacBook and so do many of his fraternity brothers. If your MacBook being white bothers you so much, paint it.
Oh, for the posters who have said there are no great sportscars in white, obviously you are unaware that ALL Porsche factory racers were white for years. Also, my Porsche 935 Turbo is white - bring on your fancy colored cars!

post a pic of your porsche

Did you not read where I said there are plenty of men who fit the description, INCLUDING MYSELF? I am a straight male (normally I would not ever feel the need to declare this, but in this case I do!) and I honestly believe women are more attracted to the Macintosh platform over men, when you are discussing those who have a preference. Of course, women generally don't get as obsessed with electronics as men do.

If you honestly thought the white is wimpy ... I ... I'm simply at a loss for words now. Also, I love how you were so insecure who had to come out and state, "I'm very straight [ed: emphasis mine, also do you really need to state the degree of heterosexual that you are?] and use a Mac." Really, good show friend. :)

Honestly, this thread has served as a catalyst for summoning the hordes of Mac users who are ignorant towards subjects such as this. I am surprised; I would have imagined that Mac users would have a far more "gender neutral" way of approaching these subjects.

The new iMac does not look athletic. Computers, in general, do not look athletic. In fact, computers are antithetical to athleticism. :) Also, making the generalization that men are more attracted to things based on how "athletic" they appear to be is just as bad as any generalization I have made, if not worse!

Also, a lot of stupid things are written on the internet. You do not have to declare your heterosexuality every time this occurs. In fact, you may be surprised how little you will really need to declare that!

I was just saying I remember reading something on MDN I think about how girls and gay guys only use Macs lol. Today I learned that one of my friends has a Mac that makes it 3 guys and 1 girl I know use Macs. BTW whenever I see something like this and make it some kind of a sex joke I do!

About the iMac I was mainly comparing it to the old white one which now every time I look at one it seems fat;)

why not?? whites cool, the black is nice i admit but the model is also more expensive.

This conversation has gone much further than I am comfortable with!

Hmm, I was thinking you were very comfortable from the get go with the thread title, lol

Real men can wear pink!

Those of us that are more rugged than others can front up with a white MacBook too! ;)
^^^
white MB are sooooo sexy, see below :D

I'm a guy, and I modded my white MacBook with an airbrushed sparkly magenta exterior, Swarovski crystals on each key, and there is a rose-pink feather puff where the Apple logo used to be. With my modded MacBook (2.16), I was checking my e-mail in Starbucks last night, when all of a sudden, I started playing football and then five woman jumped on me and started having sex with me, and then my shirt ripped off my torso from my explosively rippling muscles, so then I let out a roar that cracked the walls and caused the ceiling to cave in, and while my mouth was open, into it fell a crate pork rinds, a 512 oz rare T-bone steak, a turkey leg, and asphalt rocks- all of which I swallowed after chewing 12 times- all whilst snapping the backs of 3 Siberian tigers with my bare hands; the fourth tiger torn into a pile of meat chunks and shattered bone, with which I proceeded to have sex with, after the five women each had about- oooh, I'd say- 400 orgasms each.

So results really vary when it comes to character defining colors. Like for example, I used to own a black MacBook until last week, but RIGHT after I walked out of the Apple Store with it, I started to walk on my tiptoes, I ran across the way to Macy's to buy a bra, panties, and some makeup, and most of all, I craved the hard touch of a man, on my soft, instantly-color-transformed feminine body.

Colors are different for some, but for the most part: Watch out for colors you all!!! Colors are inherently magical and all associations regarding color and gender in your particular culture, are absolutely true, and nothing you can do can break you free from the chains of gender-color!!! Being more open minded might possibly lead to sudden death, so please... be careful when choosing the color of an object. Your life and character that you are trying to build from other people's associations, depend on your proper judgment.

Yah, when i read this post, I immediately thought of this ad "Rainbow Flower" it's just a nickname, lol, "the web can be dangerous, watch out" ROFL : http://youtube.com/watch?v=nmdVNz-Is2w

Yeah, you maybe a guy...but so g*y ;). I recommend going all the way, just get a Hello Kitty and be done with it yah sissy :p

OMG, the box is soooo cute, I'd have to save the box too :)

I got my black MacBook because it's pretty. And because it reminded me of the black PowerBook G3s, which I really liked.

However, it sticks out like a sore thumb because it's dark but not designed by Dell/HP/etc., because it's not white, and because it's not a MBP, but hey, it works for me. It's like there's this unspoken rule that all coders must have MBPs, hah screw that. I'll stick with my lighter sexier more durable black MB.

(By the way, Firefly rocks :D )

White gets too dirty.
Who says your computer can't look good? It's most certainly a tool, but for me it's a tool I use daily for both school and work, and so if I'm going to be carrying around a laptop, it might as well be a nice sleek one in a color I like.

(By the way, FF rocks :D )
Yes, but it doesn't have übersexy Grace Park in it does it übergeek?

White gets too dirty.

I want an Aqua MBP, damn it!

Do I ever want to get dirty in Jeon Ji-Hyun's white mini, lol. White MB just makes me think about that aspect of life :p (though Lee Hyo-ri is still may fav :) ). I was thinking maybe Apple could reappropriate the Giordano comercial here, JJ's smoking in this one.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Inldz5aYxfg
, splice in Ji-Hyun somehow fondling a white MB...with that Bennie Benassi's techno remix of Satisfaction..."push me, and then just touch me, till I can get my satisfaction" Works for me :p

I can't believe I missed this the first time around. Great post.

You'd think with all that processing power they'd at least be able to use some newer and better p2p like bittorrent :p

Currently, I'm p*ssed at people for not seeding me the last 2MB of my favorite House episode, so I'm not happy with bittorrent. ^_~
