Anyone who is concerned over whether or not the colors of their possessions complement each other nicely, is NOT A MAN. Damn...

And also, maybe girls buying white macbooks proves that they are smarter than men (at least those that buy blackbooks.) It's such a ripoff.

Please get over yourself and your archaic concepts of what constitutes a "man". Being a man has everything to do with confidence, respect, and emotional strength, and nothing to do with your aesthetic choices.

I can't believe there are people that are still so ignorant that they could say something like this and not feel ashamed of themselves.

Well I am female and can't stand the white macbook I bought black ones. I think its just a personal preference. And not related to gender at all. :apple::apple:

Ok fine...anyone who thinks that a white macbook is going to destroy their internal masculine strength and be concerned that the outside world looking in will see someone of questionable sexuality is archaic and just plain stupid.

my roommate recently bought a white macbook and all of a sudden he's voting for dancing with the stars...

LOL!, seriously though - whoever made this post dont be so worried what others think of you and just get what makes you happy; no one made you get a whitebook and just because your sisters have one has nothing to do with whitebooks being for girls. Do you remember the ibook g4? there was only one color it was white, and it was cool.

Don't be so self conscious, making things look good is one thing and being concerned how you look to fit in and make yourself look in others eyes is another. Have you been out and seen people's white sunglasses?

Set your own standards, don't fall into others viewpoints and live by their standards.

I think this is just a matter of confidence, or lack there of.

Geez, since when was white considered to not be a manly colour? I was about to say that at least you didn't get a pink one, but it seems like men these days like to have pink in their wardrobe too. Gender binary really sucks right? :p

At my company they dish out white toshiba dynabooks to everyone, and no everyone at my company does not look girly

Everything is OK with white macbook. I have had white iBook for two years and no problems occured :)

I'm really having a hard time understanding why this thread is still open? It's white, its a macbook and it does what its intended purpose was. If it was green with purple polka dots and it never crashed on me, always responded to my requests to open a multitude of open windows/programs without crashing I'd sport it in a heartbeat.

With the money you saved by getting the MB vs the MBP, you could always do something like this:

http://www.colorwarepc.com/products/Col_Macbook.aspx

I personally wouldn't use it (though there are some amazing colors) for fear of it voiding some kind of warranty. Or, more likely, if I ever need a replacement, there goes $400.

I have to say I've never thought about the white being feminine. My girlfriend used to try to select laptops based on colors and would end up with a great looking machine with a crappy interior. The black seems to appeal to both sexes who are looking to move away from the staple white since everyone has them and the black is more unique at the moment (not counting older laptops that came in black).

Now, if the machine looked like the "cotton candy" or "Mystique", we might have a conversation.

Black is "unique"? To me, it makes it look like every other PC laptop out there. I like the white. The black looked a lot like my old Dell looked when I slapped an Apple sticker over the logo.

cotton candy and mystique are the manliest colors of the whole bunch!

Sorry, to clarify, I meant "unique" for the latest MBs.

The extra money for the black would have been worth it in my opinion.

I think Macs appeal more to women than men in general because women are more creative, intelligent, and open-minded (in my opinion, and I am aware that there are plenty of men who fit this description ... hopefully myself!). I think that has more to do with this.

Or hell, maybe your sisters just don't want to pay extra for a color?

I would disagree, Macs appeal more to men cause they can get more done and the computers themselves look very athletic like the new iMac. It used to look wimpy with the white, but now its great.

This post reminds me of something I read about Macs are for women and gay men which is very wrong. I'm very straight and use a Mac.

pretty soon in the work place harassment handbook at work we will start seeing.
"No one will be discriminated against pertaining to Gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or color of Macbook"

Did you not read where I said there are plenty of men who fit the description, INCLUDING MYSELF? I am a straight male (normally I would not ever feel the need to declare this, but in this case I do!) and I honestly believe women are more attracted to the Macintosh platform over men, when you are discussing those who have a preference. Of course, women generally don't get as obsessed with electronics as men do.

If you honestly thought the white is wimpy ... I ... I'm simply at a loss for words now. Also, I love how you were so insecure who had to come out and state, "I'm very straight [ed: emphasis mine, also do you really need to state the degree of heterosexual that you are?] and use a Mac." Really, good show friend. :)

Honestly, this thread has served as a catalyst for summoning the hordes of Mac users who are ignorant towards subjects such as this. I am surprised; I would have imagined that Mac users would have a far more "gender neutral" way of approaching these subjects.

The new iMac does not look athletic. Computers, in general, do not look athletic. In fact, computers are antithetical to athleticism. :) Also, making the generalization that men are more attracted to things based on how "athletic" they appear to be is just as bad as any generalization I have made, if not worse!

Also, a lot of stupid things are written on the internet. You do not have to declare your heterosexuality every time this occurs. In fact, you may be surprised how little you will really need to declare that!

WTF?

Seriously, my little socialist/feminist self is feeling very appalled by this board lately. . .

Mis-writing and Mis-reading

WTF?

Hey, Quiara - no need to feel that way. It's much more a combo of men who can't write clearly and you reading into it the attitudes you're on the lookout for.

In this particular quote, he didn't intend to compare men and women. He was comparing men to men - mentioning what he believed to be the reason most male Mac users like Macs.

In the earlier part that bothered you, I believe the authors meant to say that a larger percentage of women weigh aesthetics more heavily than do men when it comes to purchasing computers. I don't believe they meant to say that most women (or any at all) purchase mainly based on aesthetics.

It's very easy to read negativity into vague posts. In this very thread, I know there were times when I wanted to smack people who automatically changed the original poster's "manly" to "straight", as if the two have some kind of correlation.

;)

Take care. We love you - and all our Mac gals.

(BTW - Pismos are the most manly Mac laptops of them all.)
