And you completely ignore the context within which it was said. You need to learn what a TABLET is SUPPOSED to be used for.You need to KNOW how the iPad Mini 1 was performing on iOS 7.AND IN THAT context when you see what happened to it in iOS 9 where (and I have posted 5 videos on this) the keyboard takes 4 SECONDS to catch up with my input I think it clearly classifies as being unusable.
The problem with absolute statements is that they allow for no room for context. "Unusable" is far too strong a word, especially if you follow that up with "except for xxx".
I presently have 6 tablets in this rough form factor in our household. In reverse order of which we bought them
- iPad Mini 4 (2015)
- Kindle Fire 7 (2015)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 (2014)
- Dell Venue Pro 8 (2013)
- iPad Mini 1 (2013)
- Kindle Fire [original] (2011)
The only one of those that is really painful to use is the original Kindle Fire. If you think that 4 seconds to catch up with input is unusable, you really don't want to try that one at all! Plus, it weighs about as much as an iPad 1 and has a very muddy display.
The rest are all really quite usable for the tasks they are decent at. The iPad Mini 4, of course, is the most responsive and all around useful. it also cost 2-6 times as much as the other devices.
The Mini 1 is slow, but also far less painful to use than either the full size iPad 1 or iPad 3 by the time I abandoned them.
I get FAR more frustrated using the Galaxy Tab and Dell Venue Pro 8 than I do the iPad Mini 1, mainly due to the inconsistencies of their behavior. The Tab reboots at random, and the DVP8's on screen keyboard is just bad which makes tablet use questionable. It's really not a bad little Windows machine when paired with a BT keyboard and mouse.
The Kindle Fire 7 is also not the most responsive of devices, nor does it have great display but I accept that as it only cost me US$65 so it provides decent
value.
If I could find a Windows 10 tablet in this 7-8" form factor with the general build quality of my work issued Surface Pro 3 (i.e. better display and digitizer than my DVP8) I'd snap it up in a heartbeat, even though I still find the SP3 to be a better notebook than a tablet. (FWIW, right now the family's only other full size tablet is an iPad Air).
