Took mine off after an hour.
I had to use it as a phone, believe it or not

I haven't but I did cut a hole in it so I can press the home button easier and cut the camera out for the back until I get a screen protector for the front.

there are some funny folks on here! I should post up a video of me sliding my new BLACK i5 across my table :D

didn't want to take plastic off but it accidentally came off in my pocket. so the phone now resides in a plastic bag until i get a screen protector on it. I can use it through the bag, which is nice.

I left my plastic on for about 4 hours, until I had it all activated, and transferred all my stuff. Since I don't have a case, and with all the shuffling, I thought I would be as safe as I can for the time being.

Then when I was satisfied I could put the phone in my pocket, I took off the factory plastic.

You folks need to get out and live a little. Received my iPhone 5 last night, slapped an ifrogz case on it, used it last night and today. No screen protector. Don't like 'em. I went hiking at Zion National Park, slipped and fell on some gravel (I fell on the pocket my iPhone was in) and...

Tadaaaaaa! Not a scratch! I got a full day's use out of it without worrying about a portable hand-held device getting any scuffs, scratches or dents. :)

is their a screen protector for the back yet? not an invisible shield type, but something like power support? thanks

Well you see the plastic that comes with your iPhone when
I am trying to muster up the courage to remove the plastic from my phone, but it makes me nervous thinking about it getting scratches. I don't want to put it in a case yet either because that could possibly scuff the sides.

Well you see when you inbox your iPhone, the plastic is meant to be pealed off the phone. This will not protect your phone at all from drops and scratches and what you need to do is buy a screen protector which will actually protect your phone. Also you should put a case on your phone because without a case your phone will scuff way more easily when you drop the phone.

You really are an iPhone expert replying to a 5 year old question on this forum. Where would we be without your help?

Ps. On a side note; I kept the plastic on the front of my first iPhone (iPhone 4) so as to protect the glass, and nearly returned the phone because the sound was very low lol

Well i wouldn't have had to reply if people like you used your common sense and realised that a thin layer of plastic won't protect your glass phone.

I work at sprint. And i Know you need to remove the plastic if you don’t it will damage your speaker because it’s bouncing back off the plastic, hopefully the damage isn’t already done, we recommend to all of our customers to remove the plastic as soon AS POSSIBLE!! Good luck

When I got it I took it out the box and started using it instantly with a random case before my preferred one arrived.

It’s a phone, it’s value rapidly drops regardless of how well you keep it. Just enjoy the thing, it’s awesome.

I remove them as soon as I’m done setting them up and then put on a glass screen protector and a nice rubber case that won’t scratch it

Life is short. Everytime I get a new phone/laptop the first thing I do is whip out my keys and make a nice scratch along the back. Not big enough to hurt resell but big enough to where now I won't baby my phone any more.

You should focus on living life not protecting material items.

I wouldn’t say I go so far as to scratch it but I always rip off the plastic right away and rub all my fingers across the glass to make smudges.

I'm sorry. I wish you hadn't mentioned that you work for Sprint.

It explains why you resurrected a seven year old thread and further reinforces the bad public reputation that Sprint customer service has woefully earned.

I expect you are decent person, but you aren't helping Sprint right now.

PS. Former 16 year Sprint customer that left over 4.5 years ago. I'm entitled to speak about bad Sprint service.

The plastics on the iPhones are terrible quality and it feels terrible when you slide your fingers across it. I don't know why people would want to keep them, unless it's on the back.

I think you are a bit over-sensitive. Well, but i also don't know what case you use.

Remove the plastic front and back and put your phone in a case and add a screen-protector. I'll be fine.

This is the most ridiculous advice I’ve read on this forum in a long time.. Sprint must have some seriously low standards for hiring employees or horrible training either way, total BS
