Man, I’m going to be so disappointed, with this talk of lackluster sales for the 12 mini, if Apple quit releasing the smaller form factor phones in 2021/2022 and beyond.

My gut would say, based on product development timelines, that a 13 mini is already in the cards, but a 14 mini is possibly in doubt at this point.

Maybe it’ll be a good opportunity to consider it a successor to the SE at the very least. I don’t know. I’m head-over-heels for this phone more than any I’ve ever owned, and I don’t want to have to settle for a bigger one again.
Well yeah, it could be THE ONE AND ONLY mini for a longer period. I think that after few years I will have to move on to the bigger ones but for now: why this should stressed you? Just pick a phone in the size you like and forget about the rest. You will deal wiith it in future. 🙂

My concern is more so that this likely dashes any hopes of a 14 mini Pro model. But the smaller form factor will stick around in some form, maybe just back into the budget market.

I strongly doubt they could make a mini pro. The current mini is packed full as it is. The added camera hardware of the pro likely isn't physically possible.

I just got my blue 128 GB iPhone 12 mini yesterday. Upgraded from an iPhone X and I still can’t get over how comfortable to hold and how light this thing is. And it’s much faster than I would expected, even on the iOS 14 beta. Hoping for more mini models otherwise I’ll just hold on to this thing as long as I can.
Not sure why people are dinging the battery life, I got 7.5 hours of SoT yesterday while setting it up before I hit 0. In my day to day (about 4-5 hours SoT + a couple hours listening to Spotify), I think I’ll be fine.

Why iOS 14 beta 😳?

Well, there is so much of unknown. How many people really get rid of first gen SE or 6s, 7, 8... in favour of 12 mini. Are there many Android switchers to 12 series? Did new iPhone users bought older devices with lower price? How many switchers from bigger iPhone choose mini? Why don’t people choose mini? Is it because of screen size or a price? Did Apple overpredicted numbers for 12 mini so they have big unsold devices or there are a few which means bad sales? So many reports but nobody gives us answers. Noone knows after this few months.

I just got a Mini today. I now have the Max, Mini and SE 2020. Its only been two hours but I already know which one Im keeping....the Mini. Been using the Max since launch day but Ive grown tired of it. Its just too big, heavy and awkward to use as my main device despite the amazing camera system. Love the SE but not crazy about the display and old school design. The Mini is perfect IMO. 95% of the goodness from the 12 Pro models, but in a much smaller, lighter and cheaper package.

I dont watch movies or play games on my phone. I just do calls, texts, emails, social media, light web browsing and casual photos/videos. I have my Canon mirrorless cameras if I need serious photos and I have my iPad Pro 12.9 if I need a larger portable device. Im surprised the mini has sold so poorly, but its a bit pricey, especially with the SE 2020 for nearly half the price. I will wait a few weeks until the honeymoon phase is over but as of now, the Mini is probably my favorite iPhone of all time.

The mini is a lot more compact and easier to hold and use than the SE2 your girlfriend bought.
Diagree. I own both the SE 2020 and Mini and I actually prefer the slightly wider, curved shape of the SE. The Mini is more narrow and the squared off edges make it feel boxy. However, the much better display and no bezels on the Mini give it the edge IMO. I would have loved the same exact form factor of the SE 2020 but all screen without Touch ID and bezels. That would be the prefect iPhone IMO.

And yet rumor from suppliers already have the next Mini (in fact all models of "13") to have sensor shift on the wide angle, and the lidar scanner. No doubt the pro models will have additional features to justify buying them over the Mini/regular.

In addition, next year will have a faster more efficient SOC, and a vastly improved more efficient modem, and almost certainly a higher capacity battery running all that low power silicon.

As far as I'm concerned, that make it a Mini Pro, and I'm upgrading.

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve had pretty much every iPhone, some more than once. This is by far my favorite, very favorite, iPhone ever. The Face ID is fantastic. The screen size is perfect without bezels. Pictures are fabulous. And 6-7 hours of screen on time with heavier use is wonderful. It charges blazing fast and I’ll be happy to keep it forever.
I’m not sure how people can complain about the battery. It’s miles better than the 2nd generation SE. and it charges extra fast.
The low sales make me sad - this phone should be way more pumped up than it is. I’m a serious phone nerd and this one hits the perfect spot for me.

I was really talking about the extra sensor. I would love the telephoto lens in the mini but can't see it happening. If they don't add the third lens then there isn't really anything making it "pro" other than stainless steel.

Trying out the 12... damn I just enjoy holding the mini so much more. Guess I’ll be returning this instead of the mini.
I feel ya. I haven’t 12 for a longer period than just for one afternoon. But it felt so big and unreliable in my hand. Of course writing both hands was nice but wasn’t able to reach at the top or write with one hand was really downside for me. 🤭
