Should be brighter then as screen is smaller?
No. Brightness is the same. But of course, if you multiply by area a bigger screen well emit more light at the same brightness as a smaller display. But that would only be interesting if you plan on using it as lamp/flashlight. Not when looking at the screen

But it’s 5.4” v 4.7”

Sure, I was replying to the poster’s concern that the screen was too small to view the photos. iPhone 12 mini’s screen is taller (this does not matter for viewing rectangular photos) and just slightly narrower than the previous 4.7” screens. When viewing photos, this “narrowness” is barely visible, yet the quality of mini’s much sharper OLED screen makes anything viewed on it look way better. 🖐

Got the Mini 12 yesterday, in white as a nod to the first-gen iPod back in the day. Really great phone, I'm coming from an XR which was a super phone. I wanted to go smaller as these phones seem to just get bigger each year. My iPad Pro is what I use for most content consumption, so a small phone ultra-portable is great and it reminds me of my previous 4S which I thought was a great phone and so well made. I like the straight edges and I don't have a case yet, I ordered the Apple Silicon case but I really like it without the case. The white back shows no finger prints. You can stick this thing in your jeans pocket and it's not bulging. It's quick, the 5G is very fast. I use the phone for business and thankfully, no issues with typing emails, that's the only thing I had a concern with beforehand. I'm surprised how used I already am to the smaller size and don't feel constrained reading on it etc.

Highly recommended phone. Will be interesting to see how the battery holds up over the coming year.

Maybe all that means is you hardly used it.
No streaming vids. I've been working from home and I haven't use it without a charger nearby so i was curious how much battery I'd lose. I was prepared to go lower power mode. So 70% surprised me.

I had a heavier use for 10 hrs on Sunday and i had 35% battery life at the end of my shift.

I work in IT and manage my company's cell phone fleet as part of my job. I picked up a mini this week only to have one available for cell phone eligible employees to check out. I liked it so much I'm making it my daily use phone. I've had plus and max sized models for as long as they been available. The mini will replace an 11 Pro Max for me.

I really like how portable the mini is and is easy to keep in a pocket while in the office. Battery life has been about what I expected and I have easily made it through my office days without issue. Once I'm home I generally use my iPad so whether I end my work day with 50+ percent remaining on the max or 30 +/- percent on the mini isn't important to me.

My guess is that as we move on, more and more stuff will be kept in the cloud; my entire photo/video library is in the cloud, so I use 31 out of 64 gb on my iPhone, not specifically limiting myself in any way. If you want to keep a hard copy of everything on your iPhone, then yes, but there are very few people out there using only their phones for all their IT needs, I guess.
The other thing to note is that this is a device with relatively small battery, so you are also better off having as much of your data as possible ONBOARD the device, rather than using up battery on WiFi and mobile networks to download the data.

Also once you start travelling abroad again, post crisis, same thing. Better to have your data onboard than dealing with data charges or dog slow hotel network.

For most of iPhone users (iPhone 12/Pro/Max), dont worry Apple keep updating your model every years, that will not even cross your mind
For mini/compact users, we want Apple to keep Mini and not give up if it doesnt meet success
First gen SE hasnt updated until now with SE 2020
Same for my iPad Mini 5, i ve updated from 4 after so many years of expecting new model (successive iOS made him really sluggish to use)
Some Apple models are randomly updated tho!
I will give you another example, some Android model/brand gave up or even completely disappeared: I remember Essential Phone made by a former Google ceo, one of first borderless smartphone, it doesnt meet success
You literally buy a dead product
its nice to buy a successful model, we dont know if Apple would keep Mini in near future
And you asked me why i would bother about Mini's success?!
I think I looked at the situation you described deifferently.

1) I thought that you are thinking about buying mini from the point of the people around you. That would be silly. Sorry to misunderstand that.
2) I don't think that Apple even now could see if the mini is success. It's just a few months, it came after the popular ones (12 and 12 Pro - many prepaid "had" to upgrade because of their plan) and many users on low budget still using first gen of SE. There are a lot of questions now, more than there are answers for them. So I think, for the 13-series, it will be still on the line. After that? I don't know. It is a device you can use for a 4-5 years with no problems at all. So worry now should
3) About iPad mini, yeah it is the same. I have so many friends who love it.

The mini will keep on being sold because it exists as a price anchor so Apple can keep the standard non pro iPhone at a raised price. It’s poor sales don’t matter they will just cut supply to meet this demand; and they’re likely cheaper to produce cos smaller displays, footprints and batteries. Don’t ever expect a mini pro tho.

The standard non pro is only $150aud more and better value, but thanks for the future update Tim.

That why most of us, who are fond of compact/SE/mini iPhone, would pray for keeping Mini as standard for every years
I think there is no room for 12 and 12 Pro, its almost identical iPhone, size/specs, only slight minor camera differences
13 Mini, 13, 13 Pro Max
The standard non pro is only $150aud more and better value, but thanks for the future update Tim.
Better value if you care about super in-depth camera specs which most don’t. The 12 camera is good enough for most and it’s also significantly lighter than the pro. The 12 is the best selling 12 series iPhone by far so obviously the general public don’t agree with your assessment.

I have the standard 12.

Where’s your proof of that then seeing as you bought it up, the 12 pro has been the phone hardest to get.

Maybe re read what I said, which was the standard non pro 12 is only $150 more than the mini.

I’m a 12 owner, I agree it’s the best value hence why I purchased it, so I’m not sure why you quoted me like you were disagreeing with me. The 12 pro has been hardest to get because it did better than apple anticipated; they anticipated the 12 would be the highest sold hence more supply.
