I'm middle aged and for me the perfect combo is small phone + iPad.

I'm with you on that. I use my phone much less with an iPad lying around. I almost don't want to use my phone these days because of how distracting it can get.

I read it somewhere on the forums that the higher 12 price is just getting people more comfortable with paying $1000 for a cellphone. I mean, a 128 GB 12 is $849 ($879): why not just spend an extra $150 ($120) and get the pro?

effing Apple 🤦‍♂️

If I lots of expendable cash, I wouldn't even consider the 12, it's a waste of money considering the Pro is so close in price. Though, I would not think this if the 12 was $699 or even $749, since the difference in price would be $300/$250 from the pro.

I don't like this new idea that Apple has that they only give their best to the Ultra Premium phone. I liked Jobs era where the very best was "affordable" to everyone. $999 is not affordable to everyone.

the 12 pro has shorter battery life and is heavier than the iPhone 12

so yeah it's really confusing

if it werent for the 128gb baseline

it isnt a good choice to buy the pro since the max has better camera features and battery life for just $100 more.

I went and got the 12 Pro today in Pacific Blue. I love it. The color is soooo nice!

I wanted the mini but this is my compromise since I wanted to go smaller and since I didn’t really end up liking the product red color I’ll just buy a red case down the road.

I would think more relevantly than elderly people (who have other problems to deal with such as failing eyesight and dexterity), a smaller phone will appeal to women or anyone who has smaller hands than the average male.
For those people, being forced to stop what they're doing and use 2 hands to use their phone is NOT progress.

I'm guessing forums like these are overwhelmingly used by tech-orientated males who will never really understand why giant phones are a complete PITA for a huge number of people (this thread excepted of course) ;)

No "average male" has hands so large to be able to fully use a pro or pro-max with one hand.
I am all for tech, but ergonomics is also important.
I really want that telephoto lens, but I cannot compromise on size to this degree so I am pretty much set on waiting for the mini. Giant phones are a complete PITA indeed.

If the 12 pro max was as light as 12, i would be getting that and a mini.
iPad is too big for me.

For real. I feel like I have pretty average size hands and the amount of times I feel like I’m about to drop my iPhone 11 Pro when I use it one-handed is pretty often. The weight of this model doesn’t help and maybe the squared edges would help on the 12, but I really think I just want a smaller phone.

I have long fingers. And I still don't like anything bigger than my iPhone 7. The new phones are way oversized. Jobs was right about one-handed use, but he was being a little too conservative with the 3.5" screen.

I'll either be getting the mini or the se next, I haven't decided yet.

If it had 512gb and the cameras of the pro max I'd be all over it.
Yeah exactly. I don't feel like there is the perfect option this year. Last year had more price differential, and this year the only small options are SE (too much compromise on features) and 12 mini (not enough lowering of price).

It’s seems like a lot of us have the same concern...battery life. If the reviews come out and give praise for the battery life (even if slightly less)...I may swap my 12 Pro for it.

For those who are concerned over the battery life. What would you consider acceptable battery life?

I have an 11 pro now and usually at the end of the day I have 50-60% battery life left. My guess with the 12 mini with my use it would probably be around 30% left which would work for me. When I used the iPhone 8 I would usually get home with 20-25% battery life. And I’m assuming it’ll be better than that.

I currently have an iPhone X & will be ordering iPhone 12 Mini as soon as pre-orders open. Don't get me wrong, I really, really like my iPhone X & if the 5.4" phone was not launching this year, I would have been happy to hold on to my X for another year. However, 12 Mini is really very close to the phone which I had hoped to see back in 2017, when Apple removed the Touch ID button & most of the bezel. Prior to the release of iPhone X, I envisaged a phone with a footprint not too disimilar to iPhone 5/5S, but minus TouchID & bezels...what I got was a larger phone than I had hoped for (X). As I said, I really like my X, but I have always thought it was just slightly too big for my liking...if 12 Pro had retained the dimensions of X, then I might have been on the fence & held back until 13 Pro, but I really would not want anything any larger than X (even if only a couple of millimetres bigger than X). So I am happy that I will now finally get to have the phone I had always envisaged. Now I just need Apple to release an iPad Mini in the design of the current IPad Pro/Air & I will be even happier still

That is my current set up. I had the SE with the iPad mini, then upgraded to the iPad Pro 11” this year, along with the new SE, which I recently sold. I am eagerly the new mini.
What color you getting?

I agree re. battery life concerns and I’m not too worried because the biggest drain on battery life is the screen, and a smaller screen should consume less power. Plus, battery life varies so massively by usage that I doubt small differences will end up being significantly, particularly as this phone is aimed at people who are less likely to use it heavily like a tablet for screen intensive activity.

I have to be honest, the Mini is getting a shocking amount of hype. It's what I've really wanted from day one, but seeing folks in the media (even the tech nerds) hold out for the Mini is surprising me in a good way. I hope Apple sees the trend and make a Mini Pro in the future. I don't think we see that next year due to design timelines (next year's lineup is likely already settled at this stage) but maybe in the 2022 lineup.

Yep. I predicted the 12 would sell the worst. And it especially will since it's so expensive compared to Pro.

Initially I thought the 12 would be the best seller, but I’m kind of starting to wonder if those who want the cheaper of the middle-size models will just go for the even cheaper Mini. I think the smaller phone will be a lot less niche than some think. I thought the 12 Pro was the weird fit in the lineup initially but I’m starting to second guess that.
