I actually like all of the color choices this year so I can see why some are having a hard time deciding. Fortunately I’m not having a difficult time choosing which color to go with.

(Going with white this year, there’s a thread where somebody posted a picture of a white 12 in a navy blue silicone case, that pretty much confirmed my choice as I planned to use a navy blue leather case. Also due to the smaller size I plan to use the mini without a case occasionally so the white will show less fingerprints.)

here’s a link to that thread/post:

Yes, the overall diagonal measurement on the mini is 5.4"- that is only .1 inch smaller than the 6/6s/7/8 MAX phones. The regular 6/6s/7/8 phone screens were only 4.7. inches.
You can't really compare the diagonals like that because the aspect ratio is different (16:9 vs. 19.5:9).

6s Plus (blue) vs. 12 mini (green), despite only .1" difference in diagonal:

6s regular (blue) vs. 12 mini (green):

You'd thing by now people would of realised that.

Yes the aspect ratio is different, but you still have only .1 inch less overall screen space than on the plus sized phones. Different aspect ratio for sure, and I do admit that if I get the phone and the aspect ratio along with the smaller size is just not great, I will return it and keep using my 11.... but from what I can tell, this seems great- big enough that everything will still be readable/usable, but yet has the very small footprint that I have been waiting for.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. The 6 Plus has 15.64% larger screen area than the 12 mini, and that doesn't even take into account that the X/XS/11/12 models have a relatively smaller "safe area" for the actual content, i.e. the navigation bar is taller and there is the additional bottom swipe bar.

I was just going by the official screen measurements- the 8+ was a 5.5" screen diagonally, and the 12 Mini is 5.4". But as you said, there is the different aspect ratio, and maybe their measurement on the Mini includes the little tips at the top either side of the notch that are kind of useless?

If they offered a Pro that was the same size as the Mini, I would be all over it. Don't get me wrong, the 12 Pro isn't obnoxiously large, I just prefer portability and would like to have the power of the Pro in a device with a smaller form-factor.
There’s very little difference in power & features between any of the phones this year though, so its as close to a “Pro Mini” as we’ll ever get in the foreseeable future due to the limitations the form factor introduces.

Look at Apple's specs page, it states: "When measured as a standard rectangular shape, the screen is 5.42 inches diagonally (actual viewable area is less)." So the 5.42" diagonal is for the full width & height rectangle of 2340x1080 pixels, as if the screen didn't have rounded corners.
