Does anyone have the mini screen width and height vis-a-vis the 8 plus screen width and height.
Just posted that on the previous page, Plus (blue) vs. mini (green):

Note however that the mini has a taller top bar due to the notch, and has the bottom swipe bar, and therefore may have less actually usable screen real estate than the above rectangle would suggest, depending on the app.

So going from a 7+ I'm looking at the same change.

FYI on an iPad Air 2 in landscape mode, those simulated screens are actual size.

Can't decide between black or white. Which would show fingerprints more, presumably black?

I quite like the two tone black front and white sides... but then all black looks cool too. argh

it looks like a taller 6/7/8/se2 no?

In the same boat. Leaning black though I think. I'd go white if it was a pure white and silver like the white SE 2020. Instead it seems to be a champagne color in the videos I've seen.

And about an ounce lighter I think, with a full screen and no bezels.

Since I'd be shrinking in screen width from the 7+, paying the same as a 12 with AT&T, and have one-handed typing covered with the keyboard setting, the only remaining factor for me in choosing the mini is better pocket size. Seems like I always live on the fence. 🙄

Money proffit.

If they want, they can put everything of the Pro in the Mini.
Apart from the telephoto lens & bigger screen, there's really not much of a difference this year across the range.

Maybe they could add the extra RAM which in turn would unlock the highest video & advanced picture capabilities? But I'd suspect people buying the Pro for things like the RAW capability are going to want a larger screen?

Yesterday I was sitting in a chair with my 12 in the front pocket poking my thigh uncomfortably. It reminded me how nice it will be with a mini in 2 weeks.

Not long to go my friend. Having an XR right now, I am certainly not going to miss my hands or fingers feeling sore after holding the iPhone for more than 5-10 mins due to the width of the XR. I also not going to miss the weight. I am also not going to miss having to use reachability (and I have normal sized hands). I am also not going to miss the iPhone head sticking out of my top shirt pocket, or depending on how I sit the iPhone slipping out of my pocket. Yes people do talk about battery life concerns. However from what I read. I am only going to see a reduction of an hour if that from battery usage from XR to 12 mini. Plus I am never far from a power socket and if I have to go somewhere without a power socket nearby I can always take my power bank with me if I needed it. However it’s very rare I am ever away from power sockets. Oh also I am pleased to know that it looks like I will get more screen than what I had on my previous iPhone 7. Also thinking back to my iPhone 7. I rarely went through a day where I had the need to charge my iPhone after a whole day of using it. That makes me think that I probably won’t even need my power bank with me if I was to be away from a power socket all day. Anyways good times lay ahead for folk like us

Luckily the only thing I need my battery to do is keep my phone from dying as it sits in the glove box while I’m at work for 8 hours. I figure if my clunky old 7+ can do it the mini shouldn’t be a problem.

Your mileage may vary of course, but I’m on a 6S (7mm taller than the Mini) and the top still pokes out of my shirt pockets, and I definitely use reachability all the time—I believe this was the form factor (6) that feature was created for in the first place.

The Mini will be the best small phone option without question, but I’m not ready to declare it an ergonomic panacea just yet. ;)

Likewise, when I wear a suit for work (or - when I used to go to work and had to wear a suit before I could do my job in my pyjamas..) I always found my iPhone XS was too big not to feel conspicuous in either my trouser or suit jacket pockets. Looking forward to something might slighter and slimmer, even though it doesn't look like I'll be putting my suit back on for a while!

About 1% narrower, but basically yes.

man...

that will feel good for the hand for sure, but honestly possibly kinda underwhelming as someone who has an se2 still (traded in an iPhone 8 for the att deal of $800 in credits off 12 pro) and the 12 pro.

probably less comfortable too with more height to stretch your hand across to reach.

just thinking out loud here but

also looks like a bit of a compromise coming from the plus phone visibility wise. but I think narrower width is good ergonomically, since I always found the plus models a bit too wide for my liking

Coming from an SE1, the vertical stretch is my biggest concern as well. You have to go to the bottom for the home swipe, and to the top for control center and scroll-to-top (and Safari address bar, etc.).

Se2 from se1 has some concessions comfort wise too

“Se3” or this mini1, will have even more

Still probably a breath of fresh air for people insisting on X form factor but as small as possible

Totally true. But even sitting with my 6S (Apple leather case) in my front pocket isn’t the most comfortable tbh.
The 6s looks like it is half the difference between the 12 and the 12 mini according to this comparison pic

But what would it have that the 12 Mini doesn't?
I much prefer the pro backs, color wise. The 12 and the mini looks cheap in comparison. At least online, I have not had the chance to see the phones live yet. I will still get the 12 mini this year though, mainly because I want a lighter phone and that the differences from the pro are minor this year.

went into a store today, (stuff still open here in Norway) and saw two things of interest:
  1. a blue iPhone 12 (not mini obviously)
  2. a case for the mini
Key takeaways;
  1. the blue color is ok, but the back does strike me as a tad tacky. The alu sides are gorgeous, at least when its not scuffed or dented. Nevertheless, I will get this color.
  2. the mini will be truly mini! Cant wait to have it 😄
