Hey there ! As I was curious about the actual size of the Mini, I built a little paper model to get a sense of how it felt. If you are interested in making one too, I included the paper model to print in the link bellow :
Just built your paper model, it's great.

Coming from the SE1, I will hate the bottom swipe though. Can anyone tell me if back tap can be used to go to the home screen from the lock screen, instead of having to swipe up?

Thanks ! I'm glad it found some use :)

As for the back tap question : yes you can use it to go back home from anywhere, including the lock screen (when it's unlocked).

Thanks, I guess I will try that then. I sure hope that TouchID will return in some form next year (power button or onscreen).

I always get the white iPhone and this year will be no different - especially now that I’ll be able to almost get back that iconic white iPhone 4 look. :) If I wasn’t going for the white one, I‘d probably get the Green, such a lovely color and I’m a sucker for pastels.

Can’t wait to preorder this Friday!!

I think blue is going to be back ordered pretty quickly and it is my favorite color. If push comes to shove, I will get the mint green. It is a great looking green, compared to last year’s 11.

There’s very little difference in power & features between any of the phones this year though, so its as close to a “Pro Mini” as we’ll ever get in the foreseeable future due to the limitations the form factor introduces.
I would be very surprised if they do not introduce a mini pro next year.

I think they purposefully got a guy with huge hands to make it look smaller.
They might as well gone with this guy :D

I was all set to get the mini however my case came in today and I was kind of shocked at how small it is. I caved and got the 12 instead. My eyes are not the best and I figured I needed the larger screen at my age.

I’m kind of disappointed because I really wanted the smaller phone. I got the 12 in blue and it’s a beautiful color. Nothing like the shocking photos some have posted. The gold pro was on display too but I wasn’t too impressed with that color.

The mini seems small, I was looking at cases in stores too, but it's deceptive. The comparison image shows that the screen is about the width of the screen in the 6/6s/7/8 and over an inch taller.

the silver rectangle in the middle is the 6s's screen

There is no denying that 12 is bigger than mini by 0.7", which is significant.
People will have to make the decision between 5.4 and 6.1 as we do not have 5.8 option this year.
In fact, 5.8 is closer to 6.1 than 5.4.

I just realized the mini is the almost the exact height as the Apple TV remote

I just saw an iPhone 11 Pro at the store, picked it up, and thought, “Wow, this is almost the perfect size.” 🤭

I bought an XR rather than the XS due to the XR’s much better battery life, so I haven’t held a 5.8” iPhone in ages, but wow is it a great size. I would have preferred slightly smaller(5.6-inch?), but I think 5.4” will feel too small. The keyboard is probably not an issue though, since I feel like my typing accuracy was better on my old SE (Gen 1) than on my XR.

Definitely leaning towards the mini as well. It’s not that different than the SE 2020 as far as footprint goes. But the screen will be bigger which is a nice benefit.

Double tap on the back can be used for 'Home' yes. That said, I think you will learn to like the 'drag up to home' motion. :)

True, the difference between 5.4'' and 6.1'' is significant. But most people are likely coming from 5.8'' or even 4.7'', so it won't be that bad, since these are the sizes they are used to.

In my weekend with the 12 Pro i barely noticed the difference between 5.8'' and 6.1'', which is 0.3'' or just +5%.
So i doubt that - at least for me - a 0.4'' (-7%) difference will be harder to get used to.

I actually had a similar jump once, going from the Galaxy S7 (5.1'') to the iPhone 7 (4.7'') and it didn't bother me at all.

I finally pulled the trigger for the 12 non pro ... I put a full screen protector (no notch cut) and an Spigen case.

I have to admit, is nice to hold and use, I can tell the difference with the 11 Pro in weight. And the screen protector with this flat edges is invisible (I´m not a big fan of them).

Battery it´s good for me, I charged it to 100% two days ago and I´m with 17% now.

5,8 inch would be even better!

Let's see the mini next week and then compare.

Does anyone have the mini screen width and height vis-a-vis the 8 plus screen width and height. All dimensions point to the actual phone dimensions rather than screen real estates. I am now worried about moving from the 5.8 on my iPhone X to a smaller screen, as I now do my daily workouts on the iPhone 10 screen in landscape. I will go and check iPhone 12 in a shop and try to figure it out.

I thought I was firmly in the mini camp, but the screen comparisons made me realize that the screen is the same width as my husband's SE2....granted it's a longer screen but I'm thinking the width will still be too small.

Add the fact that AT&T is lowering trade-in promotion values by $100 for mini purchases, which means the 12 and 12 mini will cost the same, and there goes the price incentive which I admit was not a strong factor in my choice but it's still there in the back of my mind and annoys me a little.
