I did the same couple of days ago after using Pro Max since it was launched! :). So far, I love the experience.
My mini has become something I don’t know it there and just fits. I haven’t had a battery issue or miss bigger screens. I think because the screens show the same content just smaller. I don’t see myself moving to a bigger phones unless it’s the same foot print with a bigger screen. The only thing I notice is that the bezels seem bigger. It’s my new cult classic

Any one had a drop in battery capacity yet? If so, what is your charging method?

I have solely been charging mine with MagSafe overnight since launch day. I upgrade yearly so it doesn’t bother me, I will report back when it does drop from 100%. It will give a real life example on how MagSafe charging impacts battery capacity, for the people who are interested.
Yes please do update us on battery capacity. Does the phone get very hot when charging with MagSafe? And has the MagSafe left any ring marks on your phone or case?

YMMV. Truer than ever.

I feel the 12 mini is a bit small as stated above. I am considering reverting back to 6.1" iPhone 12.

It sort of depends on what you use your phone for - in my case: I do not own a computer or iPad. My phone is my "do it all". There is very little non-work stuff you can't easily do on your phone. With a BT-keyboard for mails you are pretty much covered. All things communication, personal finance and so on are a lot easier on my phone than logging into a computer.

If your iPhone is your "phone, text and messaging hub" and you are on the move a lot I can really see a need for a small device.

The 12 mini is a gem. For those who want a phone not on iota larger. But I think many get the 12 because of larger screen, larger battery, better speakers, better magsafe. Many use both hands on their phone regardless of size - then 6.1" is a lot better to type on.

I came from iPhone 11 - the regular 12 is actually a bit compact in comparison. People using 2016 SE's will find it unusably large.
Good mentions. Only that MagSafe isn’t better - only that every charging could be on higher voltage. But who can tell the difference with 3W? 😀 And don’t forget mini has a smaller capacity battery, so fewer W isn’t much difference.

Just an update on my decision since I’ve had the mini since launch. I was perfectly happy with the iPhone X/Xs/11 Pro size (the 11 Pro was a bit heavy but it was fine). When I went to the 12 Pro I almost immediately knew it was too big for my hand. Even though the physical dimensions are almost the same, the volume is significantly larger due to the straight edges. Not only that, the 6.1 inch screen is bigger, which makes it harder to reach with one hand. When I had the 12 Pro I took some pictures illustrating the difference in screen size and my problem with reach(can’t get to the back button for instance). For reference I’m 5’ 11’ with medium sized hands. The mini by comparison is an extremely comfortable phone to hold and use with one hand. I do miss some of the features of the Pro models (512GB and Telephoto), but I tested out the 12 Pro twice and it actually really hurts my hand after a short amount of time (mainly my pinky and thumb), by comparison the mini fits perfect and doesn’t hurt at all.

True story. Had XS, tried 12 for a while and I knew mini is the only option. Even on XS i couldn’t reach the left side as you are showing on the second pic. That bothers me a lot. And on a plus note: the weight is so uplifting!

Two days before the return window on my 12 closes I decided to pull the trigger on a 12 mini.

It’s funny, I came from a XS Max wanting a smaller phone but after a while, I’m feeling the desire to go even smaller.

Excited to see how this goes.

Not very hot but warm like with a standard Qi charging method.

No marks on the phone and I run the phone naked, no screen protector or case.

There is a game I play called Shop Titans, it’s not a very graphics intense game but boy does it heat up the phone/battery. This game should help with the battery abuse lol.

Hopefully, it will be a pleasant shock for you, and you will find out just what you have been missing for so long.

You will find that the longer the time, you will no longer have any urge to buy 12mini.

I ended up NOT getting the 12 mini but thought I'd chime in anyway.

If a phone the size and price of the 12 mini came out 2 years ago, I would have been the first in line to get it. But instead, the XR was my only option at the time and I was "forced" to get a new phone because I dropped my 1st gen SE into the pool soon before the XR release. However, since I've lived with a "big" phone like the XR for 2 years since, I found myself opting for the regular 12 instead the of the 12 mini for 2 reasons:

1) The larger screen size (real estate and font size) started mattering more to me than being able to reach across the screen with one hand
2) I was spoiled by the long battery life of the XR and didn't want to take a step back in this area

The weight reduction from the XR to 12 was also a pleasant and welcome surprise, I didn't expect to be so light compared to the XR... but of course the 12 mini would have been even lighter.

Thanks for the update. Good to know the phone doesn't get too hot when charging with MagSafe, and that it does not leave ring marks on the phone.

Part of me is really worried that the mini iPhone will be a one off due to poor sales, but anything larger than the 11 Pro is too big for me to use in one hand. On the other hand, a lot of these sales surveys are flawed. For instance, the CIRP survey that came out early this week only surveyed 243 people, which I feel is way too small a sample to figure out the true sales figures. While it might not sell as well as the other models, I hope they keep it equal with the larger “mainstream” iPhone for years to come.

By the way, which wall charger are you using with the MagSafe charger?

I would not worry too much about mini being a one off. Had it been released at the same time as 6.1” 12 and 12 Pro this year, the sales figures could have been quite different. There were also people on upgrade plans “encouraged” by their operators to upgrade faster.

FWIW, I was using iPhone 11 before and was happy to wait for mini for as long as was needed. Very happy with my decision, typing all of this up, holding the mini in one hand. 😊🖐 I could have gone with a bigger 12 or 12 Pro, but prefer a phone which is light & compact.

I think Apple is quite accurate with its sales forecasts. Therefore, they must have anticipated a reasonable % of profit to come from mini, and hence introduced it with the 12, 12pro, and 12 pro max. They see a market, and they made a product.

Even if it is one off, or the next mini doesn't get released for another year or two, I think it's special that you got one, and the people who went for the mini will truly treasure their purchases. So people really need portability and their lifestyles gravitate towards the mini.

After 1 1/2 month of use, I finally sold the Mini and got back to the SE.

I liked the Mini size, cameras and mainly weight; but being back on the LCD screen is just better, I have problems with the OLED (or Face ID) on the iPhone, it was better on the Mini compared to the X or XS; but LCD is just great on my eyes and head.

Also it was too much money; here the 128 gb Mini cost 1060 dls...

I´ll miss night mode and sometimes the 0.5 x lens! but is OK.

Battery life has been very good on my mini. I use dark mode, True Tone and auto brightness though. I’m also not a “heavy” user and have most notifications, location and push services turned off.

I can't help but feel how the mini has such a weird place in the line-up.

Its evident that it's a lesser device than the regular 12. Screen size is small and battery life is compromised. Weirdly enough, the (rather vocal) fan base seem to laud exactly this. People try to justify its shortcomings by claiming how its minimalist approach means they spend less time on their device than ever.

...At which point it just seems so paradoxical to spend $700 on a new phone in the first place. Or $869 as it would cost me locally.

At $599 it would have been an easy choice for me. At this price though, I find it hard to justify versus the full experience of the iPhone 12.

While I really like the physical size, the screen size feels cramped. Its funny how I've been looking forward to this phone all of last year only to most likely end up on the regular 12. But then again, most of us are shifting to a "Mobile first" experience, so maybe the trade off for the bigger size is becoming increasingly worthwhile.

Hmm, I had the 12 mini and switched for 12 - and was a happy camper. But a few weeks in I feel it is big anytime I don't use it. I have to stretch my hand to grasp it and it feels a bit large for carrying in my front pocket.

Not easy to have it both ways. With the mini I felt it was a bit narrow for typing and images, but handling it was a dream in comparison.

That is a weird argument. Nobody celebrates decreased battery life — but to many it’s totally adequate. So, not a demerit. But the whole merit is the decreased screen size, so you can operate it with one hand. But you suddenly make the merit a demerit!

I would say exactly opposite. The mini is just as good as the regular 12, but it has the advantage of being compact, and slightly cheaper.

I have a iPad Pro and a M1 MBA for work and consumption. Why should I use my phone for something other than a phone? I have no need to use my phone all the time nor do I want to. No excuses being made here, just the truth.
