I m worried about 12 Mini, it seems in US, 12 Mini is rather a curiosity than a top seller
Same for EU, iPhone 12 Pro Max are often sold out and you can easily find 12 Mini in stocks
It seems 12 Mini isnt appeal to mass market.
Do you think Apple will keep Mini size for the next years?
I am truly afraid if 12 Mini has same destiny as SE (2016-2020)
Yeah that's what reports seem to point to. Everyone was forced into getting bigger phones if they wanted to continue only spending $699/$750 for the newest iPhone (and not have to spend a ridiculous $1000).

and now people have learned to live with the 6.1" screens and think "No way am I going back to a small phone!"

my hope is that they turn the mini build into an SE version in a year or two with an LCD or mini-LCD (LED?).

The question of which charger is best to use comes here often. My personal take on it is that the least your phone heats up during the charging process, the better. So I still use Apple’s old good 5W Lightning socket charger that they were shipping with all iPhones prior to 11Pro. You also need to consider that mini is tiny, so has less physical space inside compared to its bigger counterparts. For those reasons, I would not go higher than 10W (old iPad chargers) on mini. You can do it, but the battery will serve you longer with less heat. 🖐
18W charger will not harm the battery or phone any more than the 10W charger.

I´ve seen the same. Mini is in stock, everything else sold out before Christmas.

I have used the 11 for a year and found it to be on the bulky side. My 12 mini was returned today after visiting a store and comparing to the regular 12. 6.1 inches is a bit large to fit comfortably in my front pocket, but on the other hand - whenever I use the 12 mini I find it a bit on the small side. I keep having to hold it close to my face to see the smaller letters properly and the keyboard spacing is a bit narrow. Watching video or showing an image to someone makes you realize how much smaller it actually is.

The hardware is top notch, lightning quick - but I am back on the 5S and will see if I go 12 or just get a SE2016 instead. I can really see why a lot of people want a smaller phone, but perhaps they do not want a smaller screen.

Is that a typo or are you really still using a 5S?

I think this is bad advice. Apple has done a lot to optimize charging. At least as long as you use an Apple charger, there will be no damage to the battery. Why not charge as fast as possible?

This leads to a related question: will the 18W charger charge the mini at the fastest rate? USB-C charging is so confusing — it’s not sufficient to look at the max W rating, it also needs the right power profile.

The mini isn’t going anywhere.

Spare phone after returning 12 mini. Suffice to say, it is rather sluggish, but I can get by a couple of weeks. 11 regular has been my "daily driver" up until now but it was sold since people pay 90% of retail for an old, used phone - go figure.

That was my worry as well and what -kind of- pushed me towards updating this year instead of holding out for next year's iPhone. I also noticed that other models went out of stock faster than the mini when pre orders opened up, hopefully that's not a signal for Apple to stop worrying about smaller phones.

Still, I've got to say, I am pretty happy with my purchase so far.

ebooks, i read on iPad, much better than any iPhone or giant smartphones
I have an iPhone as phone and an iPad as a tablet
Some people would use one device for multiple kind of usage, i admit that but i prefer to split my use for each device
For example i have a gaming PC for gaming, also ideal for desktop purpose (mechanical keyboard for typing experience, gaming mouse for the accuracy and bigger screen display for my eyes), iPad for media consumption (also thinking to buy a Macbook Air M1 as replacement but its another story lol)
Watching/gaming/reading on my iPad and texting, calling, web surfing, email, social network apps, gps, apps...
Even without iPad, i dont think i gonna switch on bigger iPhone
i see a lot of comments justifying mini's size because of owning other large screen devices for large screen tasks.

this only works if you have all those options available at all times.

For me that is only when i am at home that I have an ipad pro i use for some tasks and a laptop that i use for fewer tasks. But when i'm at work, at my parents house, in laws etc. i don't travel with multiple devices. In other words basically every situation other than sitting at home. And there are things i like to do when i'm out sometimes where the slightly larger screen IS nicer - photo editing, showing a video to a friend, playing among us with my nieces etc.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their minds here - i did enjoy my mini in the month i used it, and found very little fault. Went back to the pro mostly because I just wanted the extras.

But I see this advice a lot when people ask if the mini is right for them- 'well do you have an ipad? then the mini is the perfect companion'. I have an ipad but still like the larger screen for the device that is always in my pocket.

that being said i DO hope the mini line continues for many years, as i would revisit it if apple managed to miniaturize some of the other pro features into it in the future =)

Did I do my own long term scientific experiment? No. It’s a question of trusting that Apple did their research. So, if Apple let’s the 18W charger charge the iPhone, it means it doesn’t harm.

Well, I kind of did my own long term scientific experiment - I charged my iPhone 7 with the original iPad Air 2 10W power brick, out of sheer laziness of shifting the power adapters. 😋 This toasted my iPhone’s battery within two years and it had to be replaced. Meantime, another iPhone 7 in the family happily moved along for 5 years with the same battery.

My take on it is that Apple does not really care if the battery goes off after 2 years of use, as they will either replace it for you (more money) or passively entice you to upgrade sooner.

If you want/need a fast charge every now and again it will be fine, of course. I was talking more about the chemistry of it all and trying to mitigate current Li-ion battery limitations. 🖐

That's the difference, I mostly bring my iPad around with me, one reason I have the cellular version. I hate to read and watch on a small screen, and even the Pro Max has a tiny screen compared to an iPad. So, iPad + mini.

I don’t have good eyes at all, but the mini screen always seems easy to read. I do turn up the text size. But it seems many of you can’t read the text on the mini, or it’s too small for you? Seems odd to me because up until the X we all used smaller screens and were fine? Everyone I hand the mini to can read the text just fine.

All this talk about screen size is kind of amusing to me, as I remember reading dozens of full novels on a Sony Ericsson P800 (2.8" screen) 18 years ago, lol. Why? Just because I could, because it was handy reading in bed using one hand and no nightlight, and because I’m a huge phone geek 🙂

lol speaking of i was just remembering the Nexus 6 last night, aka shamu, and how gigantic it was for it's time. It's dimensions, screen size, and weight are all very close to the iphone 12 pro 😆

Returning to go back to original SE. Mini is probably the best iPhone Apple released since after the 2016 SE, but is still too big to be used with one hand comfortably. I will probably buy it (or 13 mini) again when I can no longer use the 2016 SE, but after using the Mini and the SE side by side for 11 days, I realized that as much as I like the Mini's screen, every time I put it down and pick up my SE, I enjoy my experience with SE much much more. So will keep using the SE for as long as it allows me to use most of my apps.

YMMV. Truer than ever.

I feel the 12 mini is a bit small as stated above. I am considering reverting back to 6.1" iPhone 12.

It sort of depends on what you use your phone for - in my case: I do not own a computer or iPad. My phone is my "do it all". There is very little non-work stuff you can't easily do on your phone. With a BT-keyboard for mails you are pretty much covered. All things communication, personal finance and so on are a lot easier on my phone than logging into a computer.

If your iPhone is your "phone, text and messaging hub" and you are on the move a lot I can really see a need for a small device.

The 12 mini is a gem. For those who want a phone not on iota larger. But I think many get the 12 because of larger screen, larger battery, better speakers, better magsafe. Many use both hands on their phone regardless of size - then 6.1" is a lot better to type on.

I came from iPhone 11 - the regular 12 is actually a bit compact in comparison. People using 2016 SE's will find it unusably large.

In 2021, I'm going to change the iPhone 6S to 12 mini, but I wonder if the problems with the display have been resolved with update 14.3?

Happy New Year!!

What display problems? I haven’t read about any for the mini that I recall.
It's all about touch

That was a s software problem that was fixed in 14.2. No need to worry about that anymore.
