Well peeps, the mini is boxed up ready to return 😩 I loved everything about it.... but the OLED headaches aren't something I'm not willing to test. My eyes are too important for my work.

what's crazy and cemented the decision was that.... I'm not joking.... I SAW the keyboard grays pulsating. I didn't think it would be possible.... I though "no, I'm not superhuman. There's no way my eyes are that perceptive"

But, it's true. Under the late light with True Tone on and maybe night shift coming on... I saw my keyboard flickering slightly.

anyways.... wish I wasn't affected by PWM headaches!

ordered an 11. We'll see if it's a problem or not. I'm optimistic that it will be fine.

can't stand that I'm getting a brick cellphone.... maybe I'll grow to like it, and maybe it'll fit in my pockets.

I´m enjoying the Mini, but to be honest, I have the SE 2020 on my desk and I'm tempted on returning the Mini and continue with the SE...

The price of the Mini is a little... too much, and the mask situation is really annoying to unlock the phone.

I´ll miss night mode for sure and also the "tap to wake" that is addictive. But the SE is half the price and takes really good pics too.

o_O
I am returning mini, but had to decide between SE and 11.... I don't want to risk spending any money on new phone and not have battery life that makes the spend worth it.

So I'm going with the 11 :( big huge brick. Oh well.

... a 7 that's starting to have lightning port issues...
i am sure you cleaned the mighty iPhone7 lightning port with a tooth pick?

my next iPhone must have 5G so yes I will buy a iPhone12. Maybe after 1 or 2 product cycles tho.

puff, the 11 is really annoying IMO.

Battery on the SE is just "good"; there is a battery life phobia these days, apparently people is all day at the jungle without chargers nearby haha 😇

This. There was someone on another thread comparing battery life on different iPhones and they were happier with their choice of iPhone that gave them 2 days battery life. I asked them if they were typically away from a charger for 2 days at a time. I got no reply.

Yeah, I know. Woof! Not looking forward the heft.

the SE is better than the 7 in tests (about 5hrs SOT vs 3.5 SOT)... but my two parameters for a new phone this time are

1. battery life MUST last me all day no problems ever, in case I'm out driving to a site or something or taking lots of photos, or using maps navigation)

2. chip must be new. The 7 SUCKS in iOS 14. Apple did it on purpose no doubt.

2.1 the keyboard must be good to type on (which I tested in store on an 11 and it types fine)

It's a justified phobia. It's like the softer screens that have more scratches but make for a more durable screen from breaking: you enjoy it when you really need it.

two day battery life isn't always necessary but MAN is it nice when you need it.

To all the users using or trying different iPhone 12s and also 11 Pros. Are you noticing a difference from the Mini to the other iPhone 12s in reception quality?

I have read, don't know if it was different threads with the same user or several users, that Mini has worth reception than the other 12s or 11 Pro. I can only say that it has way better reception in low signal areas than my non Pro 11.
The mini has better and more reliable reception compared to my old 11, so all good on my side.

JM, honestly don’t just accept these PWM induced headaches lying down. Try different settings to see what alleviates the PWM. For me it was turning off auto brightness, and leaving it at about 50% with white point set to 75%. This works for me and I don’t get any head aches or eye strain. I also have Face ID off and only use pin code. Give it a try, it’s not worth damaging your health just to use an OLED iPhone.
Just picked up a Green iphone 11. Wow I love this color. The weight is okay. The size is more manageable than I was afraid of (we'lllllllllll see once I have a case on it, but I'll live). Now I just have to lie awake in my bed watching youtube to give the real weight and size test, haha.

I'm not getting the back of eye pain, nor do I have mild headaches like I did with the iphone 12 mini. **I just want to say that no one should be worried about PWM. Give the phones a shot, and if you have issues you got that 14 day to return. If you don't have problems, Awesome!!!!

Now let's see if I have problems on the 11 with FaceID laser beams in my face 🤣

The 11 has similar download speeds to my 7, but the upload speed is WAAAYY faster than the 7. So weird... Must be the Intel chip.

Another interesting observation is that when running a Speedtest, the speed is much more constant than it was with both the 7 and 12 Mini. Crazy.

But you know what? It's the same or better than the 7, so that's fine by me.

Good for you JM, at least you know for sure that you can use the iPhone 11, and enjoy the phone without PWM based headaches. Apples Liquid Retina LCD displays are on par with their OLED screens in my opinion. The 11 may be a bit bulkier, but so what, your health is what’s most important.

Thanks! Yeah the LCD screen is really good. I notice there is a very, very slight color shift from top to bottom but not enough to be bothered. It was funny seeing the more pixelated Text after looking at the OLED screen, though, lol.

Now about this phone weight ...... holding one hand is giving my wrist a workout. I remember when I got the 7 my thumb hurt from pushing on non-moving glass, but I got used to it. Perhaps the weight of the 11 will dissipate after working my wrist out for a while. Two handed is quicker typing anyway.

I honestly haven’t been as excited by an iPhone since the 5S. The mini is absolutely perfect. I’ve been using a Pixel 5 for a few weeks and I’m so glad to be back on iOS.

Wow!!
You sure have fat little hands and Fingers!!
Oh My!! 🤣

I finally conceded defeat and sold my mini due to finding it a bit small and difficult to read ebooks on. I just picked up a blue 12 and it's so much better for me. The mini is a fantastic phone though and I can see why they're popular.

ebooks, i read on iPad, much better than any iPhone or giant smartphones
I have an iPhone as phone and an iPad as a tablet
Some people would use one device for multiple kind of usage, i admit that but i prefer to split my use for each device
For example i have a gaming PC for gaming, also ideal for desktop purpose (mechanical keyboard for typing experience, gaming mouse for the accuracy and bigger screen display for my eyes), iPad for media consumption (also thinking to buy a Macbook Air M1 as replacement but its another story lol)
Watching/gaming/reading on my iPad and texting, calling, web surfing, email, social network apps, gps, apps...
Even without iPad, i dont think i gonna switch on bigger iPhone

Just turning back on my iPhone 6 for YouTube content video shooting (vs my new 12 Mini).
The older iPhone screen feels... bigger!
I am now very used to my Mini screen and overall dimension, I don’t think I’ll switch (back) to any larger phones.

Back in those days, I really wanted an iPhone 5/s. I think it looked very cool using and carrying such a small display but with updated 16:9 screen. I kept using my Galaxy Nexus instead and go straight to iPhone 6 afterwards.
Now handling the Mini feels a bit like holding the 5/s with updated 19.5:9 screen.
Of course the 5/s is still way smaller, I recently also get a hold of and shoot the 2016 SE for the same YouTube content. And wow, it still looks and feels nice to hold! Smaller phones is definitely for me.
Even holding the Mini while on bed feels much more manageable than my 6.

Does anybody use 18 watt charger that came with iPad Pro 2020 with the Mini?
The back of the phone gets really warm using this charger and the cable that came with the iPhone, is this normal?
It’s not getting warm when I use 10 watt charger that came with the iPad 3.

The question of which charger is best to use comes here often. My personal take on it is that the least your phone heats up during the charging process, the better. So I still use Apple’s old good 5W Lightning socket charger that they were shipping with all iPhones prior to 11Pro. You also need to consider that mini is tiny, so has less physical space inside compared to its bigger counterparts. For those reasons, I would not go higher than 10W (old iPad chargers) on mini. You can do it, but the battery will serve you longer with less heat. 🖐

Yeah make sense. I‘m going to avoid the 18 watt charger for the Mini, will use the 10 watt instead. But using the 5 watt is painfully slow 😅 maybe I’ll use it for over night charging. Maybe this is why the magsafe puck only applies 12 watt charging instead of maximum 15 watt. Well at least the 10 watt charging still does pretty fast. Hard to imagine people who buy the new 20 watt charger because the store guys recommending that along with the Mini purchase, only to find it makes the phone pretty hot.

One more thing, when I use the 10 watt charger with my old 3rd party MFI cable, the cable head that connects to the iPhone gets pretty hot too, I thought because the cable doesn’t support more than 5 watt output, so I bought new 3rd party non MFI cable that says it supports 60 watt output. Now the cable head that connects to the charger gets hot as well. Wonder why is this? The new cable has multi convert-able heads (USB C to USB A on the charger end and USB C to lightning on the other end), hence can also be use to charge my iPad Pro, and neither cable heads gets warm when charging the iPad Pro using 18 watt charger.

If you can get through the day without topping up, then charging it overnight with a 5W charger with Apple’s own charger and cables is the best way to go, IMO. If you need a quick and fast top-up during the day, I would go with a maximum of 10W and also Apple-branded (both the charger and the cable).

And turn on the Optimize Charging too and hopefully after a week or two it'll start doing that as well to save battery life.

I m worried about 12 Mini, it seems in US, 12 Mini is rather a curiosity than a top seller
Same for EU, iPhone 12 Pro Max are often sold out and you can easily find 12 Mini in stocks
It seems 12 Mini isnt appeal to mass market.
Do you think Apple will keep Mini size for the next years?
I am truly afraid if 12 Mini has same destiny as SE (2016-2020)
