Same. Every once in awhile I try to click on a link, it is unresponsive. I still have to tilt the screen a bit one way or the other for it to respond.

And I just have a thin clear case on the back of my Mini. It's not a big issue for me or anything, but it's there.

Did I do my own long term scientific experiment? No. It’s a question of trusting that Apple did their research. So, if Apple let’s the 18W charger charge the iPhone, it means it doesn’t harm.
You do not worry about the phone getting really warm using this fast charger?

I just found out that the 5W charger charges as long as it charging my iPhone 6, so I continue using that charger as I often being at home and it doesn’t heats up my Mini at all.
While the 18W charger making the back of the Mini really warm and the 10W charger also making the Mini a bit warm.
When I need to quickly charged up my Mini, I use the 10W instead, the 18W is not that much faster in comparison.

I have been using a 10w Qi charger for my mini and it has been working well. Your 5w will do fine as well. A lot of people like the fast charging even though it does decrease battery life over time. But, then again, it is easy to get the battery replaced by Apple.

The 5 watt charger is way faster on my Mini than my 6S, adding exactly 47% in half an hour starting from 20 or 30%. Which is all I need for a full day.

Yeah looks like the Mini does charges faster, so 5W charger is adequate.

10W is nice to have in needs. I’d still avoid 18W and up. I want to believe Apple design these fast chargers to safely charges their devices, but the heat is real and that can’t be good for battery and the whole phone.

I really like the idea of wireless charger and have been eyeing 3rd party magsafe charger for a while, but not sure about the heat they often gives to the phone as well.

As for Qi charger, does your charger gives a full 10W output for iPhones? As far as I learn, iPhones usually only takes 7,5W on Qi chargers.

Before the mods starting to think this discussion is getting off the rail, the reason I’m talking about chargers is because I think the Mini also heats up easier, but not sure, I’m using very thin plastic case right now so I can feel any heat easily.

My QI charger is rated for 10w but, I don't know if that is what the phone is receiving each time. I don't have a way to check the output at the moment. I charge the phone in the sleeve and it hasn't gotten hot.

The 20W fast charger from Apple really doesn’t make the phone significantly hotter. It makes the phone just marginally hotter than it is in standby mode. The little added heat is certainly nothing compared to a high intensity game or a resource hungry app. I’m not worried about using the fast charger at all, and it’s so handy being able to top off the battery quickly when needed. I, personally, believe that completely draining the battery does way more harm than getting a quick juice boost when needed using a fast charger.

Besides, like others have mentioned, it’s not that expensive to replace the battery in a worst case scenario. So, it’s all a lot of fuzz about nothing, as far as I’m concerned...

Yes I also avoid charging below 25%, and toping between 25% and 80% is also my current habit.
Well in my country, replacing battery by Apple is not an option. We got no Apple Store here. Replacing batteries can be done by third party service center which are using OEM batteries. In my experience these batteries dropping health faster.

I wonder if my Mini is faulty, it feels really warm when charging with 18W charger. But then again I don’t play heavy games on it. So can’t compare the heats. Although it’s not as hot as my aging iPhone 6 that’s getting hot with no reason occasionally when opening certain apps.

I don’t know about the 18W one, but the new 20W was made specifically for the new iPhone 12s. The cable that comes with all iPhone 12s has that specific charger cable included in the box - the cable that only fits the new 20W charger, that is, and not the other chargers using a normal USB port.

There is significantly more energy charging wireless versus wired. That wasted energy is heat. You won't notice the difference in your bill, but when you multiply it by millions of users, it adds up to additional climate change. Not to mention the cost of the wireless charger and pollution generated manufacturing it. Plus I don't get the use case. It can take longer to align on the charger than to plug in, and if you screw up the alignment, you will have an unpleasant surprise when you wake up.

Yes I read somewhere about this. Hence the magsafe is a better solution for misalignment and wasted heat with the magnet, I guess?
It’s silly I know, but I feel plugging cable to my iphone also adding wear and tear more to the port. Even though I never broke my Apple devices port holes in this past decade, lol.
Also in car while driving, placing iphone on magnetic wireless charging pad sounds easier than requiring two hands to plug it with cable.

Thanks - the update fixed the lockscreen issue and now the phone is working perfectly and I couldn't be happier!
The update will fix it, it was a known bug that was addressed very quickly with an older iOS update.

Don’t hold back on updating your phone.

It's all about touch

I had those issues with the lock screen initially, but they disappeared after I upgraded to iOS 14.3 and now everything works perfectly for me

Yes, proper alignment does save wasted energy. But inherently wireless charging uses more energy than wired.

Plug your phone in first before driving. Not only can you benefit from CarPlay (most cars), but your phone will charge efficiently. In fact if you have a car with an alternator (most cars), charging is lower cost than at home.

I returned my pro max for the mini. The best thing I can say about the mini is that it makes me smile every time I pick it up. It’s the perfect compliment to my iPad Pro, it just displays until I need it and I use it differently. It’s not as much as a media consumption device like my max but I use apps more, listen to music, and take more pics.

Any one had a drop in battery capacity yet? If so, what is your charging method?

I have solely been charging mine with MagSafe overnight since launch day. I upgrade yearly so it doesn’t bother me, I will report back when it does drop from 100%. It will give a real life example on how MagSafe charging impacts battery capacity, for the people who are interested.

Just an update on my decision since I’ve had the mini since launch. I was perfectly happy with the iPhone X/Xs/11 Pro size (the 11 Pro was a bit heavy but it was fine). When I went to the 12 Pro I almost immediately knew it was too big for my hand. Even though the physical dimensions are almost the same, the volume is significantly larger due to the straight edges. Not only that, the 6.1 inch screen is bigger, which makes it harder to reach with one hand. When I had the 12 Pro I took some pictures illustrating the difference in screen size and my problem with reach(can’t get to the back button for instance). For reference I’m 5’ 11’ with medium sized hands. The mini by comparison is an extremely comfortable phone to hold and use with one hand. I do miss some of the features of the Pro models (512GB and Telephoto), but I tested out the 12 Pro twice and it actually really hurts my hand after a short amount of time (mainly my pinky and thumb), by comparison the mini fits perfect and doesn’t hurt at all.

Same here! I've finally got a new iPhone which fits my hands (and my pockets) perfectly and packs enough of the technology I need to not feel like I'm forced to use an inferior product. It feels like returning to an old familiar consol, which had the best controller you'd ever used, but all the hardware has been updated so it runs like new..

Just got mine on the 24th. Going to do the whole “keep charge between 40 and 80 percent” thing and see how that goes, and try and use the phone a little less. My habits seem to kill batteries quick. Usually after a year I’m in the 80s. One thing I’ve noticed is how astonishingly quick the mini charges, probably simply because the battery is small. I usually pop it on the charger around 40 and it’s well over 80% by the time I check it seemingly less than an hour later. Maybe a half hour. So it has actually been difficult to do this. Probably silly anyway. And I’m sure in a few weeks or months I’ll get lazy and go back to my old habits.

I did the same couple of days ago after using Pro Max since it was launched! :). So far, I love the experience.
