I typically upgrade every year, but I’ll probably hang on to my iPhone 13 Pro Max until the telescoping camera is incorporated for better zoom (iPhone 15?) or Apple decides to put ads in Maps or other core apps (see other story). When they start putting ads in Maps, then I’ll use my iPhone 13 Pro Max until end of life and then I’ll just get a dumb phone and a mirror less camera.

I'll hang onto my i13 until I upgrade to Android again, lol. When will that be? No clue, but I won't be fulfilling my 36mo Verizon contract.

I love the fact that I am seeing so many folks sticking with their 13 Pro Max. I plan to keep my 13 Pro Max as well. Just got mine in May when I switched Verizon. I think I too will stick with my 13 PM as well.

Wondering if the problem might be that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is too well build.

First time I feel so unmotivated to upgrade since my first iPhone.

Would really need a killer feature for me to even consider because of how awesome the 13 Pro Max is.

The 12 Pro Max is an awesome phone and I still love it! The battery life on the 12 series is horrible and I will have to get the battery replaced sometime this year (currently at 82%). I’m on a 2 year upgrade cycle now, and pay outright for my devices, so this is the year to upgrade for me.

I think you’re spot on. Apple made the 13 PM a close to perfect iPhone. Battery life, screen quality (less the handful of units with orange tinting), build quality, sound quality are all great. Unless iOS 16 doesn’t wreck the battery life, like from 100% to 50% in 3-4 hours of SoT, I’ll keep the 13 PM even beyond iOS 17.

Very simple for me:

if Apple surprises us with usb-C port I upgrade (this is very doubtful I know)

if they are still riding the lightning (most likely) I keep my 13 PM

I’m holding on to my iPhone 13 Pro Max until Apple switches to USB-C and adds a periscope camera, which is rumoured to happen with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. If they don’t, I’m holding on to it longer. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the best iPhone I’ve ever owned, and even though it will no longer be the best iPhone ever less than a month from now, I don’t think I can justify spending another $2000+ on a new iPhone every year. It sucks I won’t get an Always-On Display and 8K cameras, but there’s no point to 8K if you can’t get them off quickly through that awful Lightning port. Considering the fact that Apple’s transition to USB-C is happening sooner rather than later, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another Apple product that still has a lightning port. My biggest complaint with my phone is the port. Other than that, it’s an almost perfect phone

With the supply shortage, we may not be getting the best of hardware on the inside of the phone except a updated processor, new Face ID oval hole punch combo (really the true main feature sadly), and maybe upgraded camera lens/hardware. I’m keeping my iPhone Pro Max till Fall 2025 since I prefer the best versions of the iPhone design and features and not minimal upgrades.

This is not the time to upgrade in my opinion. They perfected the notch iPhone with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the first of a new cycle and does not seem exciting as in the past.

For the last few years I have upgraded each year, the excitement gets to me, and I like to have the latest update. However, the 13 Pro is a fantastic phone and I, too, might be considering NOT upgrading.

One thing that might change my mind is the camera- the camera on the 13 Pro is really disappointing, it seems to take worse images than I was able to get on my 7 Plus and 11 that I had.
If the camera upgrade is a major improvement, it may be worth it to upgrade. Won't really know, though, until real world reviews start coming out...

I’m the opposite as well and have a launch day 12 Pro Max that I still love. The only issue is the battery have to be charged 2-3 times a day and I’m upgrading to the 14 Pro Max for better battery life.
I was having the exact same issue with mine (same phone) and I went to the Apple Store ready to replace my battery (at 86% health). The guy told me to try something before the replacement and it worked: I stopped background refresh for all Meta apps (fb, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp) and now my phone last over day! Maybe give it a try.

I will most probably keep my 12 Pro Max for another year, unless the 14 comes up with some amazing improvements and USB-C...which I doubt.

I bought a iPhone 13 Pro Max on Friday so I see no need to buy the 14. I didn't plan on buying the Pro Max or any phone yet but I applied for new service on Verizon and got approved (didn't think I would) so I went through with it.

I used my XS Max for 4 years and the battery still lasted me all day. I got that one on Verizon 4 years ago when I last tried them.

Hang on, you will spend north of 1000 £/$ just to get USB-C??? Did I read that right? Hardly a killer feature. Convenient, yes. But not >1000 £/$ convenient.

I have background turned off for every app, except banking apps, weather and navigation.

I've upgraded every year but I genuinely intend to skip this year. Phones have just become too expensive to upgrade each year. Perhaps every 2 years is the road I will go down.

I normally upgrade yearly and I skipped the 11 series and so far have held onto my 12 PM for almost 2 years. I’ve put myself on a 2 year upgrade cycle and for the first time, I’m sticking to my guns.
