First everyone is pissed at the quality of the Maps app, and now people claim to be mad because the head of the company had the b@lls to admit it? Idiocy reigns supreme.

This is why I loved Bobcat Goldwaith's "God Bless America". After reading these forums for the last week or so, really hits home.

Yeah I'm not mad about it at all. At least Apple (not just Tim Cook) had the gall to admit they borked the Maps. They suck for millions of people (the world doesn't revolve around the US), plain and simple. The company wants to do damage control like any smart company and a PR department.

I wish he'd announce that we don't have to have Apple Maps as our default Maps provider and could choose between one or the other, but it's a start.

Difference between Steve and Timmy...

The difference between Steve Jobs and Timmy is that it took Steve 10 years to turn Apple into the greatest company in the world and will only take Timmy 5 to destroy it.

Apple has severely disappointed me, and supporting them through this is making me look like a fool.
THIS, is what it took for Apple to disappoint you??? Lol, I used to love Apple, but the moment iPhone 4S and iOS5 hit I was disappointed big time. They're playing catch-up like a drunkard.

Sad, because I love the Mac, the one great thing they have and are trashing with iOSification.

Will that be five years starting from now, or does he first get to take it down to where it was when Steve left it, and not, you know, worth almost twice as much as it was when Steve died, like it is now.

No? That's stupid to get pissed about it.

Weather you want to admit it or not, Apple put a huge turd out, that does not work for a huge amount of users.

And why does everyone think Tim Cook will ruin the company?

Apple won't go away for a very long time. Deal with it.

What will happen to Apple, is they'll probably pull a microsoft, Microsoft was king for a LONG time, as Apple has been. And just like Microsoft, they'll always be hugely successful, but they won't be top dog forever.

Eventually some other company will come around with the " next big popular thing ", it might be Microsoft, it could be Google, could be amazon, maybe Samsung? Who knows. No one stays top forever though, thats for sure.

Starts from when he took over from Steve and the way he's going, it won't take him 5 years.

You have no clue about corporate inertia....the iPhone is ****, but it sells well because of the name Steve built....Once people see the garbage Timmy's making, they actually could make an amazing phone and it won't sell. That's why the Apple brand is worth so much...until Timmy destroys it.

do not forget Steve Jobs would of destroyed Apple if he was not fired.

The map app being crap I would blame that on Jobs.

Tim unlike Jobs does not have an ego problem. Jobs as a person was a horrible man. No one should strive to be like him.

Wait wait wait... people are mad because Apple admitted they messed up? What? So you would prefer they insult your intelligence and lie right to your face and say their maps are great?

If you cant see what's completely stupid about that then there's little hope for you.

EDIT: I actually only read the first page of this thread before replying but wow.. page 2 is GOLD

Scott Forstall? You mean the guy that released iOS 6 at a buggy, glitchy and laggy state on top of its lackluster 'new features', yet calls it the 'world's most advanced mobile OS'?

That guy probably has the arrogance of Steve Jobs, but nothing more.

Hes a marketing genius, just like jobs was too

I for one am extremely disappointed with Cook issuing the apology. Jobs would never have bent over to the competition and let them take turns on him. Apple has severely disappointed me, and supporting them through this is making me look like a fool. I have loved all apple products prior to this, and even love the IP5, but this move makes Cook look like an extremely meek CEO. If there is anything good that can come from this it is that the stakeholders will form an uprising to get his ass outed. Who is with me here?

Not me. It is nice that Apple have acknowledged they have released something that is not all that brilliant. Never had that acknowledgement before. Even with MobileMe (although Steve did mock it whilst showing off iCloud).

But seriously, who cares? I wouldn't be mad if no apology came either. Tim has probably been in charge of Apple longer than you think.

Objectively what is superior about iOS compared to the other mobile OSes? Can anyone name 1 thing?

I'm not sure how you can know so much about the inside works of a company you've never worked at or been involved with.

The iPhone is crap?

What does that make every other phone out there right now? Worse than crap? Worse than garbage? Or are you off in the land where specs rule and actual performance and use cases are second-class citizens?

Steve Jobs would never apologize?

Ever?

He apologized twice since the iPhone came out. To refresh some memories:

From 2007:

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions. . .

We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.

Steve Jobs

Apple CEO

From 2010:

Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everypony who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.

Why do people insist on changing history as time goes on?

And how does this make YOU look like a fool? What makes you sound foolish is that you think Tim Cook is doing a bad job and comparing him to Jobs. Wasn't Apple stock trading at an all time high last week? Isn't Apple still the most valued company out there? No one guy is single handily responsible for the success of Apple. It takes a collaborative effort among many. Steve Jobs had a vision and was involved in every step of the process. But it wasn't he alone that built the Company to what it is today.

Can't say I fault the guy for apologizing for a product that isn't measuring up to expectations. They'll right the ship and in all due time will be a great navigation tool.
